Sunny Hills Fire Department needs help

Any on wishing to help the Sunny Hills Fire Department please do so by calling the fire station at 2777. Fire protection is in jeopardy because of lack of funds. If you would like to continue to have adequate fire and emergency protection please call 2777. The fire department need your help as soon as possible.

Jeez..You mean they would actually have to function on the same kind of county money that other departments in the unicorporated areas of the county do? GASP. What a concept. Guess they will have to sell off the beds, big screen TV, and other toys that do not relate to fire fighting.

Yep, you're right! Washington Co could use another play like VFD with play like firemens. Reminds me of what you said when you was a kid and someone ask you what you wanted to be...you said I wants to be a firemans. Kinda like the guy that works at the transmission place on that commercial, as he stands there washin off the pavement...and his boss says, "we don't have time to fix yo car, but Leroy could do it, and Leroy said, JEEZ, I always wanted to fix a transmission BOSS!" Well, you finally got to be a firemans. I think I will call Leroy if my house burns.

You seem to be confusing yourself with a true career department versus volunteers who just happen to be getting compensated.

WOW, thats strange....there are county warrant checks on file for pay of fire fighters at sunny hills on payroll at the county finance office. anyone from the public may verify at the county finance dept. also the public may be interested to look at the fire dept's set of finances and checkbook

"paid Volunteers" now that's am oxymoron

I thik all fire, police, ems, and county and state employees need to make $100,000.00 per year to start with 10% increase per year, paid medical,etc.

VOLUNTEERS are by definition NOT PAID. Get it?

If you VOLUNTEER to help out at the church social, do you get paid? If you VOLUNTEER to give blood, do you get paid? If you VOLUNTEER to help with the fire departments, little leagues, boy scouts, MSBUs, civic associations, etc. etc.,do you get paid?

All over the country thoughout our history, neighbor has helped neighbor in times of need, like a barn or home on fire. They have volunteered because it was the right thing to do and some day the shoe could be on the other foot. Firefighters who do this for a living should receive top dollar and the volunteers should be praised beyond any limits. The fact is PAID FIREFIGHTERS SHOULD BE PAID, VOLUNTEERS SHOULD NOT RECEIVE A PAYCHECK. one of those duhhhhh things.

No one says they have to be volunteers but there are two different catagories. The training requirements, dedication, time involved, benefits, status and money and much more are the differences between a paid job position and a volunteer firefighter. What you want is to change the dictionary. If you pay someone for the work they do they are not volunteers. period. Don't call them volunteers if they get paid. That's all. Don't change the definition of a word to suit yourself. Simple. How many ways can I say this so you will understand? I am in no way taking away the importance of our brave volunteers. They are the backbone and the strength of many many fire departments doing their jobs along side the hired firefighters who also are dedicated to doing a job few could do or would chose to do because of the risks, training, and time away from their families. BUT if you chose to volunteer realize, that means you chose to volunteer with NO PAY. THATS ALL. duhh

In order to be paid by the florida administrative code, firefighters MUST have 360 state validated hours of training.

In 26 years there have been only three (3) structural fires....We need to pay firemen who just sit there and watch cable and play on computers, and have bed skirts on their bunks, and have uniforms, jackets, hats, etc etc. and they are just volunteers???????? The head man is making a job for himself and others....I think people see through all this....Commissioners are just starting to see the farce in all this.

This is a god damn CAPITALIST COUNTRY, we in charge now! Privatize the fire department and I show you how to make money. You people in Sunny Hills need to understand that there is no free lunch. If you want protection then you have to pay. You people definately need some shock and awe!

The Sunny Hills Fire Department, Inc. is already Privatized. It does not belong to Washington County, it does not belong to the residents of Sunny Hills, it does not belong to Sal Zurica, Randall Weekly,Sharon Kirk, Mario Corrandino, the renters Tobac, Johnny whats his name, or anyone else...IT IS A PRIVATE CORPORATION, Sunny Hills Fire Department, Inc. It is NOT a Volunteer fire department. It and the property around it is leased to the county for $1 a year. The county, for this lease gives the MSBU in excess of $100,000 a year to pay for the mowing crews,storage of the equipment, up-keep on the equipment, gas for the mowers, up-keep on the parks and other things. That is all in the lease with the county and Sunny Hills Fire Department, INC. But, as the county elects not to give MSBU any monies this year, the MSBU is still obligated to pay for all of this up-keep. If you brainless people want to fight for something, fight for the money that the county owes the MSBU. We never had this problem when we had someone fighting for the good of Sunny Hills. Now that we have no BALLS on the board, as Sharon Kirk puts it, we have no one fighting for what is ours...we only have people with no clue as to what is going on, wanting to attack other people that are trying to do a good service to this community. Evil minds and Evil attitudes never got anyone anywhere. The next time you stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself in the eyes and repeat everything you say at the MSBU meeting, scream and yell just like you do at the meeting...and see how STUPID you LOOK. All others already know...we have seen you...you only need to see yourself. Trust me, it is not a pretty sight. Makes you want to throw up knowing people like this live within the community.
With all due respect to several members on the MSBU board, there are a couple that ruin the the whole board...you're right Sharon, they have NO BALLS. Go figure.

sunny hills VFD! that is what it is, not county. not municipal, not anything!...yes , the structure and dirt are leased to the county. and yes the county is to maintain realty and structure as well as water and power as well as ONE telephone line...the one for 911 calls to be made out!HOWEVER there is a 60 day termination clause after cert.mail delivery. this is an option that may need to be followed, and yes I did see that you put a new fire truck back in for next year...what a joke, we will still owe the county money and there ARE other areas out there beside the fire dept that need MORE attention than the fire dept. you seem to have NO desire to meet in the middle, the New advisory board for the fire dept....its a good start, but sending glen to present it and request money after all that he has done to the people here...that was freaking stupid, you can keep him as chief...but for gods sake GET A FRESH face to represent the department, how thick are you, oh and its WAAAAAYYYY to late to submit a budget for anything
