In April 2006, then-Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney signed the Massachusetts health care insurance reform law, colloquially known as RomneyCare. Mitt Romney had this to say: Mitt Romney wrote: We're spending a billion dollars giving health care to people who don't have insurance, and my question was: Could we take that billion dollars and help the poor purchase insurance? Let them pay what they can afford. We'll subsidize what they can't. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php... Mitt Romney wrote: We don’t need new money. We don’t need new taxes. We could use the money we’re currently spending and get people better health care without having the burden and the cost of the uninsured being borne by everybody else. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12289524/ RomneyCare includes a lot of elements that are very similar to what was passed by President Obama in 2010. The "individual mandate," requiring everyone to purchase or obtain health insurance coverage is part of both laws. RomneyCare provides free health insurance to any Massachusetts resident earning less than 150% of the federal poverty level. ObamaCare provides medicaid to all citizens earning less than 133% of the federal poverty level. In this regard, RomneyCare is actually "more liberal" than ObamaCare. RomneyCare requires insurers to cover pre-existing conditions, but allows insurers to limit coverage of pre-existing conditions for six months. ObamaCare requires insurers to cover pre-existing conditions. In this regard, ObamaCare provides "better coverage" for Americans with pre-existing conditions. RomneyCare was passed six years ago. ObamaCare was passed two years ago. CBS News wrote: The bill, intended to extend coverage to Massachusetts' estimated 550,000 uninsured, is being touted as a national model http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/04/12/pol... It's interesting to watch Mitt Romney Campaign AGAINST ObamaCare, seeing as he invented it in 2006. Maybe he's just mad that they changed the name?

Well stated a well researched. Everyone has car insurance so this is merely a way of guaranteeing that hard working Americans don't have to pay for ininsured people that receive medical care but don't pay for it! I also like the fact that insurance providers can no longer disqualify patients for pre-existing conditions. A child with a heart condition or MS can now receive coverage.

Mitt Romney wrote: So what? It was a mere accident I made in the past. The truth is, I hate poor and middle class people. I make my Hispanic maid wipe my butt and put on my adult diaper for me, and yes I only pay her a dollar an hour. This "obamacare", "public education" and "minimum wage" is all a bunch of Marxist mumbo jumbo. I don't disagree with that at all! However, be careful referencing Marx in American modern politics. Remeber he wanted a LEADERLESS government where the working class distributed the profits earned by companies and corporations equally, where all people HAD to work and WANTED to work, and received automatic health care and retirement. THAT society would sure suck!

I did everything I was suppose to worked paid for health insurance, then the company mt spouse got hurt. Our insurance was dropped. We were offered Cobra at $1600 a month. While dealing with cancer treatments I had to scramble to find an insurance who would cover me . Not an easy thing. Finally found one but could only afford to cover one of us. We easily went through our savings. As soon as I could get back to work I had to find a job where I could get health insurance. With ObamaCare I hope nobody has to go through what I have.

So, it's all about YOU, then? My wife is in the same situation as you, but there is much more involved in voting for a president than what he can do for YOU!

Maybe he's just mad that they changed the name? Romney care was right for Mass. Obamacare is for the all the states. It should be up to the states, not the fed. gov't. that wants to control everything. Insurance rates are going to go sky high and I have already seen some of the negative consequences of Obamacare as Ins. companies are preparing for the worse and already raising their rates. And to have a child covered until they're 26....how ridiculous is that, all at our expense as Ins. rates will be doubling and more. How can we possibly support a 2000 page healthcare plan that will involve raising taxes? Before Obamacare...low income people could get medicaid, many people had insurance because of their jobs, wealthy people can afford the insurance, so why not just concentrate on middle income people who do not qualify for medicaid and cannot afford insurance. Help them out and make it simple. We are really in for trouble in our country. Blame it on Obama, who continues to blame it on Bush after 4 years.

Obamacare is going to cost individuals and families lots of money. As reported it will be an additional tax. Before Obamacare, low income people can get medicaid, many middle income people have insurance through their jobs, and wealthy people can afford insurance. So why not just concentrate on Middle income people who do not qualify for medicaid and do not have insurance through their job, and also cannot afford insurance. Just help them out instead of a 2000 page plan that we were not even able to find out what was in it until it was passed....thank you Nancy Polosi. Ridiculous. And how about coverage for children up to 26 years old. Tax payers, and people paying insurance premiums will be paying for them, as insurance premiums have already started going up.

With Obamacare people are going to have to go through many things that they don't like. Just wait and see the consequences, the high rates and higher taxes. Many insurance companies will probably go out of business, and many have already raised their rates. It is not going to be good.
