"Randy Roberts, the business manger for Spencer-Owen schools, likes the goat farm idea, and found money in the 2007 budget to fund it."

What exactly is a business "manger"?

As a former principal, it is my experience that school systems need to bring in these kinds of professionals to help waste as much money as possible.

I don't think this will be a waste of money. These kids will probably show you a thing or two. Don't put them down before they even get started.

There is an old goat at Tech High School that they could use to start their herd.

Well now, I'm not passing judgment on the opening of a goat farm at a high school. Perhaps all high schools should have goat farms, although they should be careful just who they let be around the goats.

I'm just saying that regular folks don't know how to waste money like schools and hospitals are expected to do. For this, the services of business managers and the like need to be brought in to get the job done.

We raise a small amount of goats and these kids need to be warned, this year we had 4 Nannies and out of the 4 Nannies, we had 9 kids...... figure that to 50 goats, and are they considering the vet fees, who's going to trim hooves, burn horns, give shots, etc.? I hope they make it, it would be great to see. But I hope they also know just how difficult goats are to raise. Nothing like sheep, cows or horses.........

Sounds good to me. "Cabrito"{ kid} is very popular in Mexico. In the US, it has to be specially ordered and when available is very expensive.

Maybe there is a very good reason that you are a former principal. You should change your name to Oldgoat.

As a graduate of Owen Valley High School and an educated farm girl...goat meat is in high demand. They can make a lot of money and the school has a wonderful outdoor lab for students to experience. This not a waste of money because it will be paid back to the school fund in which it came from.

Hey Randy; that money you say you "FOUND" was it in a drawer, locker, in the gym under the bleachers? How the hell do you just FIND 28k in taxpayers money. Fire "RANDY" and give the kids his pay for the farm. Another example of out of control spending at the local level ie: schools. 28k Jeezzzz.

It's probably the best 28K spent by a public high school in the last 20 years. The kids will learn a great deal more on this goat farm than they will ever learn in class. Unless the goats unionize.

I think this is a wonderful idea and I commend the school administration. This will probably be a learning process and I think it will succeed. Keep looking up and not down all the time.

So, let me get this straight, we are paying our taxpayer dollars to compete with farmers who are payig taxes. So will the kids be paying rent on the property, utilities and property taxes, so that this is a "real world application"?
It seems like a harmless idea to teach the kids. I would love to know where a school system has $28k just laying around! No one has deep pockets like schools and government!
I HAD a business until the state government decided they could do it better and cheaper with my tax money. If we don't watch out, the government WILL own and run everything! Then, my good teachers, you can teach socialism instead of capitalism.
COME ON TEACHERS, why not help a small business owner instead competing with the taxpayers who pay for your salary.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Virgo

If something is weighing on your mind it will start to affect your health, Virgo. It might make you feel tired or depressed, or it could dominate your thoughts. You know what you should do about it, of course, but it seems like too much effort or you want to pretend that it doesn't exist. Unfortunately, this escapist attitude won't make the problem go away and might even make it more tricky by the time you finally decide to tackle it.
