City of Dinuba giving "The Island" a rough time!!!

For some reason I have been reading in the paper about how gracious the city of dinuba is being to the new "Island" events building. As far as I'm concerned...they haven't really done anything but tell a Hispanic owner how to run his business by limiting events and how much alcohol he can serve. He also has to hire security when the Dinuba Veterans Building just needs to have volunteers or staff to walk around as "unprofessional" security. What is the difference between the two buildings? They say it's because the DVMB has been around longer and has more experience...haha...YEAH RIGHT!For the city to think that fights don't break out at the Veterans building when they serve alcohol is a laugh riot!!! There has also been times when underage drinking has occurred because of their thinly stretched security...especially at the last two dances put on by Sandoval's Restaurant. Supposively ,anyone could get a drinking armband/wristband just by asking at the DVMB!!!To say that Mr. Medina has no experience hosting events is ridiculous when a bunch of old geezers at the DVMB don't know what they are doing. All they have is the former manager of 8 years ,JB Westmoreland on their board...and his skills of operation were miniscule at best.The city has also been quoted to have said(person unknown)
"We don't want another 'Redwood Inn' to spring up" which is a nice way of saying that they don't want a bunch of drunk wetbacks to have as good a time as they already do at the DVMB.PEOPLE OF DINUBA....MAKE NO MISTAKE THAT WHATEVER THE DVMB CAN DO WITH A BUNCH OF IDIOTS RUNNING THE BUILDING...THE ISLAND CAN DO THE SAME IF NOT BETTER!

The Mayor Mark wallace(Is that his name) doesn't seem to help matters either...in the sentinel...he says that Sports events,mixed with drinking could be very destructive or whatever.Isn't he a Pastor of a church? Shouldn't he be against DRINKING in general too. It's rumored that you can catch him drinking like a fish at the Eagles Lodge in Reedley...,maybe he's doing the Lord's work...don't know.And yes...saying that they don't want another Redwood Inn is very offensive because everyone know that US MEXICANS are the main,if not only, people that occupy that building in Sultana.I think that such comments are directed at the Hispanic community subconsciously or intentionally,either one doesn't matter!

Further more...the new sports bar in Dinuba opening...what the hell?YOu must be a rich citizen I guess to get the cities favor. I think the owner also is part owner(or something) of Ruiz Foods. OH I GET IT!!! YOU HAVE TO BE A SPECIAL KIND OF MEXICAN TO GET FAIR TREATMENT!!!

I lived in Dinuba for several years and attended dozens of dances at the Dinuba Memorial Building and in over 10 years I saw only one fight. Then they started holding Mexican dances and there were several fights at every dance. This made it undesirable to go to any dance.
I also worked with several Mexicans and would listen to them talk about going to a dance or wedding so they could get drunk and get into fights.
I quit using the car wash at the corner of Crawford and Mt. View because the punks would come in with their music playing and when you would ask them to cut it down a little they would have to talk a bunch of garbage and want to fight. It was like dealing with wild animals.
The Island will be nothing but a black eye on the already tattered repatation of Dinuba.

Look at what the Redwood Inn was in the 60's and 70's it was one of the finest resturants in the county. Now look at it...it's a dump and a magnet for violence, drugs and drunks.

How come every hispanic always has to jump to the conclusion that everything is about racism. I'm sick and tired of hearing this.I being of hispanic descent know just how rowdy hispanics can get when it comes to alcohol. Of course there are hispanics who know when to stop but a large percentage of hispanics just dont know when to stop. I'm not saying all hispanics are this way but many are. When they say they dont want another redwood inn you guys just took it out of context and turned it into your own personal vendetta against the many caucassian males that run the city. If hispanics really want a say then more of us have to stop being afraid and should join the city council, to have our voices heard. Instead of complaining that the white man is controlling us. Furthermore if we dont want to be stereotyped then why do so many live up to stereotypical beliefs? Other hispanics give hispanics a bad name. Thats not to say there isnt any racism in Dinuba but not everything can always be blamed on racism. Find a new excuse.
oh and one last thing every race has people who will overdrink, get rowdy, and bring illegal drugs to clubs so nothing will ever stop that. A club just naturally draws all that in. Afterall its a place to let loose even if illegal activity is forbidden.

Isn't the mayor also the pastor of the town's biggest church and he continues to want it bigger? And isn't the town pretty much run by the "churchmen"? I say this is a big conflict of intrest, regardless of races. Just one more reason that I refuse to ever move back.

Its Not Racial

WOW!…….. I can’t believe the attitudes of some of the comments left here about the city and about the behavior of city leaders, it sounds like people are just spreading rumors and are uninformed.

The city is lucky to have a pastor as the mayor and as for a conflict of interest I don’t think so, this country was build on and around God (In God We Trust). As for the Island this is a top notch establishment and the owners are trying to keep it safe for all who attend with a metal detector and professional security, with any special event where alcohol is served you are going to have problems.

The only negative thing I have to say about The Island is that they need to be clear as to what is included in their facilities rental and shouldn’t spring extra costs to there clients at the end of the night, like basic ware and tare of the building, lighting for the stage area, lighting for the dance floor, cleaning etc. The owners are very nice and polite but need to be strait up about costs that may inure.

Well said Concerned Hispanic,but if you want to talk about fishy cost...then look at the management history of J.B. Westmoreland. He runs currently runs the Veterans Building of Dinuba. During his past 8 years of running the building he on more than one occasion kept the deposits of Mexican families,even though they cleaned thoroughly.This happened when U.S. id could not be produced at the time of renting....sure he would let them rent,haha,but only to take advantage of them later.The offended customers would usually complain to the Hispanic security officers for J.B. was hard to catch.And it was usually the security guards that would do the walk through with the customers and tell them that they cleaned everything right...but J.B. would walk in the next day and say it was filthy.Now that he is back in charge again...I rather deal with The Island any day.And btw...there were many customers(White)that didn't have to pay deposits at all when it was standard policy that EVERYONE no matter who...must leave a deposit according to te governing board at the time.

J.B. Westmoreland is a piece of shit.
