Um, will there be reparations? These guys sure deserve it. What a bunch of jack@sses (our government, not the students who were arrested). Um, of course fireworks explode. Even some backwoods bubba who grew up playing bottle rocket war knows that.
It's quite a sad state that we're in when our government has us afraid of every person whose skin is not lily white and when they use that fear to unjustly hold and punish people.

This is the full text of the article. TAMPA, Fla.(AP)-- The FBI says two Egyptian college students arrested near the Navy weapons station at Goose Creek last year were carrying low-grade fireworks as they claimed.
The FBI says the University of South Florida engineering students were not carrying dangerous explosives.
Twenty-six-year-old Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed and 21-year-old Youssef Samir Megahed have been in jail since sheriff's deputies found what they called bomb-making materials in their car during a traffic stop.
They were indicted on federal charges of transporting explosives illegally.
But an FBI report submitted to the court Wednesday in Tampa, Florida, by Megahed's public defender says the items explode in tests.
U.S. attorney's office spokesman Steve Cole would not talk about the filing Thursday. Could someone - anyone - please tell me what that 2nd to last paragraph means? Are "reporters" no longer required to have appropriate grammar skills?

It's simply sad if grown people can't see that an item is a simple firework and as a result, two innocent people spend MONTHS and MONTHS in prison as a result.
Caution is fine, necessary even, but due process is important too. It doesn't seem overly complicated to determine if items are bomb making materials or fireworks. If they are in fact fireworks, there's no reason for these two young men to have been detained for this amount of time or to be facing charges before all the facts are even known. That's well beyond what is reasonable.

I bet if you were held for that long because of fireworks you would be demanding some sort of compensation. You would rightly be demanding it.

What? A short time ago, I read legal documents where officers found all sorts of things in the car. Was all that stuff made up? Or do these kids' families have money and someone is getting paid off? Supposedly one of these guys had made a "you tube" video showing how to use remote control toys to make explosive divices. All of a sudden these are two good ole boys from Egypt? Something smells rotten to me.

there is something wrong with this story. it took this long to figure out it was fireworks? I don't think so. something else is going on that we are not to know about yet. but in no way do I believe these guys had just fireworks. they are up to no good.

Although they were speeding in that area, I suppose it will all come down to probable cause for what happened after this. I certainly hope Berkeley County can justify their actions from the beginning,i.e. detainment.. otherwise it will be "Lawsuit City" for lots of agencies and there will be plenty of paying to do for what appears to be much ado about nothing.
