I am with Beto on this one.

If you don't have a drivers License, if you don't know the rules of the road, if you don't keep you vehicle maintained, and if you don't have insurance, you should not be driving a car on the public highways. What we are talking about here is not your right to drive a vehicle, but the privelage to drive if you meet all the requirements.

This has nothing to do with your rights, but to stop those that have no regard to follow the rules from killing somebody else.

I like seeing some dumbing down of this unconstitutionally heavy-handed post 9-11 police state we live in, but it 's not enough. the constitution doesn't call for heavy handedness which violates the 4th and 14th amendments just because they want to decide what the "greater good" is. restore the constitution. restore FREEDOM AND LIBERTY. something that must be foreign to a lot of you jokers out there

To paraphrase Wikipedia:

"Dumbing down" is viewed as a pejorative term for a perceived over-simplification.

To "dumb down" is to "revise so as to appeal to those of little education or intelligence."

Once again we allow people to get away with breaking the law. I pay for it with my insurance. I am moving to Fort Sill and will not miss this type of thing at all. If they would just enforce the laws we have (ie turn signals, safe loads, left lane passing only, insurance/registration/inspect ion)the city would not have a problem with money and the CAD would not have to have such high rates.

I say impound them and the traffic will be less.

Having been hit by 3 uninsured motorists, of (I wont mention, ethnic background) and the last one almost killed me twice, once at the scene of the accident and the other on the operating table, to correct injuries suffered in the accident. I would say NO LICENSE, NO INSURANCE, NO DRIVY PERIOD. CITY COUNCIL, MAYOR DONT HAVE THE COMMON SENSE TO PROTECT THOSE WHO FOLLOW THE RULES. IF YOU CANT AFFORD A CAR AND ITS UPKEEP, YOU DONT DRIVE AND IF YOU DO YOUR STUFF GETS PARKED UNTIL YOU CAN. EL PASO REMEMBER AS THE CARTELS WERE SETTING UP BIGGER OPNS ACROSS THE RIVER NOT SO GRANDE, COUNCIL AND MAYOR WERE TORN OVER WHICH WAY DON ONATES' STEED WAS FACING. THE OFFENSIVE STATUE WAS MOVED TO AIRPORT, WHERE INCOMING VISITORS STILL SEE THE SOUTH END OF THE HORSE.
GET THE ILLEGALS OFF THE ROAD, PERIOD.

Will they impound the driver also? It's not the vehicles fault.

Every little bit helps, but in the real world you would tow every uninsured motorist and bill them for the tow as well. But here we must empower the poor because they are victims of an unjust and heartless system.

The argument that this is class warfare against the poor is malarkey. If you can't afford insurance then take the bus.

As someone who has lost a close friend in an accident with an uninsured resident of our lovely neighboring third-world hovel, I say drop the hammer on anyone not abiding by the law -- PERIOD. No grace period! No leniency! No license, inspection stickers, no seatbelt, no insurance? Too damned bad. Stay home. Ride the bus with all your cousins! Neither I nor my family should have to travel the streets of this town with irresponsible, carefree losers in the lane right next to us.

("Cindy Arnold, administrator for La Mujer Obrera, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help low-income Spanish-speaking women and their families, said the city "appears to have found a middle ground.") EPT

I agree that the EPPD cannot impound all uninsured motor vehicles, the impound lot would fill up quick and the officers would get nothing else done. But when you have a bleeding heart like the lady above makes a statement like that, it just gives uninsured people the feeling that "well I drive ok so I don’t need insurance". What she should be doing is promoting public transportation use by uninsured people instead of risking driving without insurance because they believe they are good drivers. An accident in most cases is just an accident and caused by a bad decision by a driver, not because I drive good and will not be in an accident. If they get into an accident how will they pay for the damages if they don’t have insurance? She is an idiot.

One other point is why does the federal government not insure the people driving over the international bridges have insurance as well as the proper documents to be here, it would only be another point of identification. The problem with the United States and bleeding hearts is that they always feel that we have more so these minor things will not hurt us. BS

Due process of law! Are you and idiot or something? When is the last time you were hit by an uninsured motorist and had to pay everything yourself when they were at fault. It is people like you that promote this in the first place. Driving is a privilege and not a rite bonehead, if you cannot properly follow the rules then take the bus.

We all pay taxes to drive on the roads. If you want to drive around in a country with no insurance or roads go to Afghanistan and see how you would feel. This has nothing to do with Freedom or Liberty, just common sense and courtesy to your fellow citizen. Maybe you should if you have never fight for your rights or go back to the military and learn what freedom is.

If the Mexican Cops can take away the cars of U.S./Mexican citizens as so called "collateral" then this City should be able to take away the vehicles of uninsured motorist, where ever they're from.
What the hell is the matter with our stupid city politicians?
And what a cop-out by the police stating that they don't have the resources to two every single car. That's the towing companies job. I'm sure in these tough times it wouldn't be too hard to call in a wrecker to have a car towed.
This is extra revenue for the city and should be viewed as such.

I have to carry full coverage on a car that's paid for, something I wouldn't feel compelled to do in another state. The laws only apply to the people who follow them. I was involved in an accident with a commercial vehicle that had been recently purchased by a company based in Mexico. The driver passed off the old reg, ins, and authority and the cops believed them to be current because they didn't know what they were looking for, let the driver leave the scene with a leaking fuel tank while I was on the way to the hospital. He got away with not even a ticket when he caused a 5 car pile up.
