Cops search for escaped inmate

A Klickitat County Jail inmate escaped from custody July 17 after he bolted from a hallway in the courthouse and ran outside wearing standard black and white jail-issued clothing. The escape happened about 3 p.m. Witnesses said the inmate, later identified as Kevin Schilling, ran westbound toward the fire house, then northbound. UPDATE: 4:45 p.m.: A plane is in the air. Officers think he may be headed to the Pipeline Road area. Goldendale Police officers, Klickitat County Sheriff's deputies, a state patrolman, and a search dog and its handler from Skamania County are on scene. The cops have set up a perimeter extending from Broadway north to Allyn's Building Supply on Northwest Second St. They believe he is hiding along the Little Klickitat River, in trees, or in houses north of Broadway. The search dog arrived shortly after 4:30 p.m. Schilling was arrested on a criminal warrant July 12. He has an extensive criminal history dating back to his juvenile years.
