It's so sad to read an article like this. In depression times, families had to help each other out. I think that's what needs to happen. People can only contribute so much. I know my church is always asking for donations and not just for the local area but for mission work and supplies in Belize. You can only give so much.

It would be nice, if at the end of the article, they told people where to drop off food for the food bank.

If you don't know exactly where it is in NN, you aren't going to find it easily. If you are heading down Warwick towards downtown, there is a little sign just past Hilton that says FOOD BANK. Turn left there, then turn left behind the first row of buildings. I have no idea what the street names are if they even are streets. You will see it on your right. Or, if you are on Main between Jefferson and Warwick turn in front of the fire station. Drive down the ally about 3/4 mile. It will be on yur left.

That info is included in the print edition. Too bad it didn't make it here....though I'm sure you could just give the Food Bank a call.

Your first directions may be correct, but I don't think it's down that aley (ally? alley?) where the fire station is.
Thanks, though. We'll find it.

Sorry to say that I have nothing left to give. Because of the price of oil and food I was layed off and now I'll be at the same food banks but this time for food instead of donating.

Call Bobby Scott and ask him to help. Mr Scott and the rest of the Democratic in Washington have cause our problem with high cost of gas and with this high gas every thing has jump in price. The Dog Ladie who in the house leader tells us that it’s George Bush has cause the high gas. Needless to say she is as stupid as she looks. Let’s go back for the last 30 years and see who has put a stop to the peoduction of oil in these country. People need to know that the Democrtae Party or as I call them the Communist Party has and will lie every chance. Pick up the phone and call Bobby Scotts office and ask why he does not support drilling for oil to drop the piece. No "Lawmakers are quietly talking about raising fuel taxes by ten cents," by a dime, "from the current 18.4 cents a gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents on diesel." The new tax would be 28.4 cents on a gallon of gas, and 34.3 cents on a gallon of diesel. Now, this is profound to me.

The big issue in people's minds is $4-and-rising a gallon gasoline. And now when people figure out that members of Congress are planning on tacking on an additional dime federal tax to a gallon of gasoline

By the way, folks, one thing about taxes, neither Obama nor the Democrats are going to cut anybody's taxes. If you're in the lower 50%, everybody's taxes are going up, and I don't care what kind you're talking about, payroll, Social Security, income, everything is going up. He's not going to cut anybody's taxes. He may give you people in the lower realms a couple more government programs. He's not going to cut your taxes. He's going to do everything he can to blow up the size of this government.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday shut the door on expanding oil and gas drilling beyond areas that have already been approved for energy exploration, drawing a clear distinction from her counterparts in charge of the Senate.
“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference.“It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”
Pelosi’s stand may put her at odds with a growing number of members of the Democratic Caucus who have been moving toward possible compromises with Republicans on ways to expand domestic energy production.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday told reporters that expanded offshore drilling is not off the table, and that Democrats will take a look at whether states should be able to choose to drill off their coasts.“I’m not knee-jerk-opposed to anything,” Reid said.
Pelosi and other Democratic leaders also unveiled another series of proposals to deal with the energy and gas price crisis, and renewed their calls for immediate drilling on nearly 100 million domestic acres already approved for exploration. They also called for Bush to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Democrats are renewing their push for energy companies to “use or lose” the lands they already have leased. New proposals include requiring the Bureau of Land Management to speed up the leasing of approved areas; to reconstitute the ban on the export of American oil; and to urge the completion of the Alaskan oil and gas pipelines.
Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) also said committee work is being completed on bills to curtail excessive speculation in the oil commodity markets.
Democrats would not say when these bills would be ready for floor consideration.
Within minutes of the completion of the press conference, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) took to the floor to again criticize Democrats for dodging votes on energy bills, charging that Democrats are avoiding votes on the opening up of the Artic National Wildlife Refuge and the OCS.
Hoyer soon followed to retort, saying he and Democratic leaders have for weeks been urging for drilling on approved acres, only to have those efforts blocked by Republicans.
He blamed Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney – the “two oil men in the White House”– and Republicans for setting an energy policy that has driven up gas prices and steered record profits to the energy companies.
Republicans accused the Democrats of playing a political game.
“As every serious person who has studied this issue knows, the proposals that Democrats are producing are shams and hoaxes designed to provide political cover and not to produce more American energy and lower gas prices,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said.

I did know a person that worked at the Food Bank and they did get a paycheck. They also help them self to the food that was given to the food bank. Between them self his and her paycheck pull in about $72,000 a year. Did she need to take stuff from the food bank no. When ask why she said that the others there took food so why not her.

If I need to give food to someone I will do it through my church, then I know who gets the food.

Our companies give freely every month.
Private business owners could put a "box" for clients to donate food. It works.
As we do for toys for tots.
Kiwanis Clubs do the same, and do come to rescue concerning needy families.
It is a good thing .

The name of the street is Hoosier St. If you are heading towards downtown on Warwick pass through the village and it is just past Rivermont Road. I think there is a 7-11 just before Rivermont. After you pass Rivermont start looking for the sign.

well i think grocery stores should help. products that sit on their shelves after the experation date should go to the food banks instead of being thrown out. think how much food could be enjoyed by underprivalaged people if they could have the chance to have that food instead of it going in the dumpsters. even if the regular buyers don't like it, the people that can't afford the grocery store would really appreciate it. so i think the grocery stores should help out with the food banks in their localities.

Because cheap food isn't as healthy. It is full of fat. For example, ground turkey or lean ground beef is much more expensive than ground beef with a high fat content.

Also many people are too lazy to prepare healthy meals. Opening a bag of chips is easier than buying potatoes and baking them.

Just think of the diseases they could get from eating expired food. Bad idea.

Also fish don’t fry in the kitchen;
Beans don’t burn on the grill. You should know that George.
