It's frustrating that people automatically believe that someone who has made something of their life has never suffered. Especially when you see a white guy. I suffered alongside poor black families in my hometown. Some of us made something of ourselves, whether white or black. Others turned to gangs, drugs, and crime and haven't contributed one ounce to society. CANGHE - I am sorry for your loss. I do have compassion for anyone who suffers this kind of loss. I don't think it's less of a loss just because a person is a gang member. I just get frustrated that communities where gangs rule let the cycle continue. I know that part of it is fear for your family's safety. I know part of it is because gang members feel it is the only legitimate way they can help their families. It will be a hard road to fix the gang problems, but the communites affected by the problems have to fight. No one else is going to solve your problem. And when authorities try to help solve it their way the community "protects their own." It's hard to send your brethren to face justice, but it has to happen to set the community on the right path. And if your friends weren't involved in gangs and there were other issues going on that caused this incident, I'm sorry I assumed otherwise. You like my name do you? I did not even notice you had the same and did not have you in mind when I wrote my response. I never said people who have made something of themselves have never suffered. I have suffered and am suffering. I am not trying to be pompous and realize it may come across that way when I am trying to respond to heartless, crude comments. I just want to see some compassion. Sometimes life is life, there is nothing perfect in the world and there are those whose lives are lost because of circumstances out of their control. I know there is an issue with gang/drug/poverty violence and I lost a dear loved one so. I am angered and bitter that my loved one had to pass at a young age because of the surroundings, not involvement. We need to figure out how to solve the problem and not just contribute to the anger by pointing fingers. This is our future youth we are speaking of. It saddens me to see ignorant comments going back and forth. It makes me question if these people have a white robe in the back of their trunk. Let's do something positive.

CANGHE - Like I said, I apologize for the assumption. I'll "stay in Cali"
diva - Sorry for your loss. My comment were driven more by recent news stories. Seeing such tragic loss of life by people caught in the crossfire saddens and angers me.
La Verdad - agreed

No white robes. Just sick of it all.
Do something about it for real. Start with denouncing Rap music for what it is and do something about getting the black culture from being up it's own ass.

Rap music is no more to blame for anyone's problems than heavy metal is. Yes, some rappers include prose about gang life and killing cops. But there is just as much if not more rap that covers subjects meaningful to its audience without being hate speech. Heavy metal (and rock in general) has had the same issues. It isn't the genre's fault it is the fault of the perpetrators and the responsibility of society to fight against those that would perpetrate.
Country music on the other hand makes me want to blow my brains out after having gone on a shooting spree to take out every twanger I can find. That style of music I can denounce for my own sanity.

Well all I can say is that this post strand has been very entertaining. For Canghe...is that supposed to be the femme version of Kanye? You are truly one of Chicago-land's "finest". By the way, you live in the United States of America..where freedom of speech is a protected right afforded under the constitution..which give's your a$$ the right to dumb stuff. Of course I am assuming you can actually understand what anyone on this post is writing. As for threatening people..it's real easy to do that when you think no-one knows where you live. It blows my mind to think that my taxdollars are funding lowlifes like you. As for the kids who got killed that is what is most important..not some lowlife claiming to know them in hopes of gaining some attention. It's inhumanoids like "Canghe" who are the ones perpetrating and holding the good ones down b/c no one's allowed to succeed if they aren't. That mentality has been around since the 1960's...and so it continues.

Sad to hear about such frequent deaths. We cannot always blame each other for it will do not good nor bring any positive light to this dark, dark world. Funny how our "freedom of speech" is so adamantly declared by all, but what happened to innocent until proven guilty? Isn't that written in somewhere? It's obviously guilty until proven innocent where some guilty people live with their disgusting, vile selves and some innocent suffer at the cost. Do you think anyone cares besides the one getting screwed over? Ask the ones who work in the system. At the cost of some innocent, they could care less. I am part of a university where we fight for these victims of a deceitful "just" system. Oh, and don't believe everything you read/hear in the news. Not only is it just to ease the public, but also twisted to sell the story. It's all about "ME".

Stop pontificating at these young people. You are as bad in your way as the raving racists jumping in to call these young people in pain "monkeys." What is wrong with you adults? Get involved in the solution and stop judging. These kids are hurting and they are hurting each other. None of your righteous folk care that the young man was killed, or that his best friend apparently did it. Why are you pretending it's a damn shame? It's pretty obvious you actually love it! Brothas and sistas, these mediocre minds lecturing you should be an inspiration to get your sh*t together. They are haters - they do not wish you well. But it's okay, lots of people do wish you well, and want the best for you. Take care of yourselves because you know you've got the love, the talent, the hope, and the community.

People listen to yourselves trying to give a speech about how horrible black people are. Your'e just making a bad situation worse by posting these evil remarks about people. No race is perfect and it absolutely horrible for anyone to lose their lives over bullshit. Damn, when are the people in this country going to wake up?

Hey seymore..im an honor roll ETHS student who is attending Brown next year. First of all, you are so removed from this case that you have no idea what is going on. You come to Evanston, and see how it is. Don't assume that its a bunch of gangbangers. I know you're kind. You and me had such an easy life. Our parents grew up and gave us money. Some of my friends live in city housing. Its not their fault at all. stop passing judgment on people. Its not right at all, and you have literally no context in which to do so. Your a sorry excuse for a person. Meet us up in etown, we'll show you around.

Your usual "shtick" huh? Someone stands up for themselves, shows that your view of the world must be hindered somehow, like say your nose being in the way (with it always stuck straight up in the air) and what do you do? Act like a "scmuck." We need less people like you around here Seymore walking around with their heads up their "tookus."

Ya know, I always have fun here. Some people actually dig doing that. I do not take this all too seriously like obviously you do. So I guess you will just have to deal with it, babe. Oh, and BTW, that popping sound we just heard was your own head coming out of your ass. Tra la, for now.

The correct spelling is "tuchus". Not "tookus". Not like "you tookus to Evanston to do an inventory of the bums around Main and Chicago."

As for my "spelling" error, sorry I don't have a Yiddish Dictionary, so thanks for the correction. I was going to send you a ham in appreciation, but thought better of it.
