You're being just as pompous. It's frustrating that people automatically believe that someone who has made something of their life has never suffered. Especially when you see a white guy. I suffered alongside poor black families in my hometown. Some of us made something of ourselves, whether white or black. Others turned to gangs, drugs, and crime and haven't contributed one ounce to society.
CANGHE - I am sorry for your loss. I do have compassion for anyone who suffers this kind of loss. I don't think it's less of a loss just because a person is a gang member. I just get frustrated that communities where gangs rule let the cycle continue. I know that part of it is fear for your family's safety. I know part of it is because gang members feel it is the only legitimate way they can help their families. It will be a hard road to fix the gang problems, but the communites affected by the problems have to fight. No one else is going to solve your problem. And when authorities try to help solve it their way the community "protects their own." It's hard to send your brethren to face justice, but it has to happen to set the community on the right path.
And if your friends weren't involved in gangs and there were other issues going on that caused this incident, I'm sorry I assumed otherwise.

But there is just as much if not more rap that covers subjects meaningful to its audience without being hate speech. Heavy metal (and rock in general) has had the same issues. Country music on the other hand makes me want to blow my brains out after having gone on a shooting spree to take out every twanger I can find. That style of music I can denounce for my own sanity.
