Crazy people think they can keep a pet bear. Just like the crazy people that think you should have a pet monkey. They turn on you and do what they do, because the are WILD animals.

Many people who reside in the rural mountain areas consider the bears and other wildlife part of their daily enjoyment. They feed them and veiw their behavior in areas close to their homes. In a way they interact with them on a close scale without actually touching these wild animals but communitcating through feeding and observing their behaviors. Often these property and home owners beleive they have a natural relationship with these wild animals. Living in the rural area they begin to think that these animals and they are sort of like part of the family as they are part of their everyday lives. We have visited friends who live in these areas and they take pictures at night of the bears coming close to their homes looking for food which has been intetionally placed in view by the homeoners. They feed the deer and watch them walk up onto their porch looking for their food.

there is a difference of what your friends do and what this person in the article did.Your friends do what proably alot of people do in rural areas, which I do myself where we live. But this woman actually owned this bear and was going inside its cage to clean it when she got killed, where I know when I put food out for the animals around here and they come too eat,we remain in the house and watch them out the window, and I know my kids enjoy watching the animals come, but I will never have them outside when they are around, but then again usually I only ever feed the squirrels or I will put food out for a bunny that we have had around for awhile, but every so often we will find either a red fox or raccoon or skunk up here eating at night too,and those are the animals we stay inside too watch

Keeping a black bear in a 15 foot cage is imprisonment for the bear. A bear is a wild animal, NOT a pet. I am so sad for the bear. Why is the neighbor being "lauded" for killing the bear? The stupid owner wrongly imprisoned a wild bear, then caused its death. That's just wrong. Why is no one crying for the poor bear?

When will humans wise up and realize that wild animals are not PETS, like a domesticated animal, cat or dog. They do what natural instinct tells them to do, and this one surely did.
worse is when people get these animals, train them to be reliant on humanity, and then give up on them and let them go to fend for themselves. Hawaii and Florida are loaded with non-native species that prey on the native ones and have no natural enemies.
Leave the wild ones to the wild!

Is it better to Pet something Bare, then to have a Pet Bear?
You can eat the bare thing but the Bear can eat you. Tough choice!

I am with you! Bears belong in the circus where they ride monocycles and wear cute hats the way nature intended.

Its sad that the woman died, but these third rate "zoos" or roadside attractions like Mack's Ice Cream near Hellam or private owners have no business keeping wild animals. They are often kept in crappy enclosures, mistreated and who knows what else...a 15x15 steel cage?! come on. At least at the zoo they get a habitat of some kind.

These business owners may think it draws business but I would never support these places because of how they keep their animals. If you want to see animals its a short drive to 3-4 zoos and an aquarium.

These idiots had no right to be keeping a WILD ANIMAL caged up- they got what they deserved.

Nobody can blame the bear for being an animal.....

I agree. Some days that bear just paces back and forth and looks at people watching she/him. A bored bear. How would we like it if someone caged us and all we had to do in such a small area was pace back and forth. It's been proven that elephants get so bored when chained and then made to perform only to be chained up again. Macke's in Hellam had a lion at one time in the same cage as the bears. I wonder what happened to it. Ask Jim sometime if keeping these wild animals in captivity is for the good of the animal. And where does he get these animals.

Daily Horoscope for November 30

Taurus

Today is potentially very romantic, as the Moon and Venus make love in your house of relationships. If you open up your heart, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The Bull is slow to fall in love, but tends to be very loyal and committed, which makes it important for you to choose your partners wisely. It may just be that the love of your life is already by your side.
