Algae affecting Lake County tourism? It's not news to me; I read about it in "Duh" magazine.

This has been a problem for decades that I know of from living here...Why would fishermen fish in Clearlake when there are so many other nicer, cleaner places to fish? I live in Lake Co. and I don't even fish here...YUK! I go to nice clean lakes and streams in Shasta and Placer county...much better.

Why don't we suck it up, concentrate it and run it through a pill press and selling to health food nuts as a laxative?

If we can get enough of it I have patents pending on a process that can convert it into 40% butanol which can be separated by chilling, no distillation needed, and this stuff will burn in your car without alteration, like 100 octane gasoline.

You can read all about my process at http://fuelfarm.i8.com It will work with any algae.

I've seen the pictures and reports posted on the web. Pictures tell far more than words can. I applaud Lakeshore Bait and Tackle owner Bob Rider for being honest. At least he is not trying to paint a pretty picture to entice customers to his store. This other guy sounds like he is more concerned with the truth hurting his business. Like Bob said, it is simply a matter of riding it out until conditions improve.

In addition to my first post. Our so called mayor and what not here in lake county should be the one to point fingers at. All who have been in office has seen the economy, business after business shut down here in lake county for years. Before moving back to LC 8 months ago, I heard and read story after story in newspapers, magazines, tourist brochures & etc. about the conditions of Clear Lake. I remember, as a kid and into my teenage yrs, swimming in this lake,
it was clear, sparkling and the wake of a boat didn't look like split pea soup. Who, in their right mind would want to put their boat, wave runner or themselves in this muck? My suggestion,
STOP WHINING about the decline in tourist's and businesses in LC, take a walk down to Library & or Clear Lake Park,
trust me it's NOT that far from YOU Mr/Mrs. lawmaker(s) and you'll see 1st hand why the county is and has been in such p!ss poor shape, not just now but for yearsssssssssssssssssssss. I'm truly embarrassed and disgusted at what I see-- Mtn Breeze is correct, THANK GOD for Shasta and other pristine lakes to take my camping and fishing trips

about 15 years ago, we had a bad year on the lake similar to this years algae bloom. I had company from out of town on the 4th of July, and we decided to go down to the Lake to watch the fireworks. Between the dead fish and the rotting algae, the smell was very bad and the wind was blowing right up our noses.
One of our visitors gagged and threw up, so we had to leave. They have never returned to visit the Lake. Who can blame them?

Hey look at the positive of it all: This has been going on for yrs. It will never change other than maybe dry up...and if this happens then we could hold the worlds largest man made dune buggy races, motor cross, ect. bring the tourists back in. If your so unhappy with it all go out and buy a swimmin pool and plastic boat and start pretending its clearlake! You all use the Lake but do any of you help with keeping the beauty of it? Hell No!

Clearlake is rated as one of the top five bass lakes in the world by several different fishing publications. That is why I fish there.

Glad you fish here Harold. It's really good fishing here in Clearlake. And, it's those publications that give us a good name in order to bring people like yourself here, that I'm thankful for. Continue to Enjoy!

Gezz John, have you been pissin in the Lake again. These fisherman are here to do just that, fish. The majority of tournaments are catch and release. Wanna tell me what you have contributed to helping to keep our lake and its area clean? Thought not!

Why don't we suck it up, concentrate it and run it through a pill press and selling to health food nuts as a laxative? The County was going to do this back in the 80's, but they thought they would CHARGE the conpamy that wanted to harvest it. Morons.

This county is going to become a swamp if we dont act on the algae and invasive weeds on Clear Lake. I live in Lakeport, born and raised. I have watched the weeds/aquantic plants start back in the early 90s. They were brought from another place and are growing at an alarming rate. Each year the growth has extended further out in the lake. The algae itself has been growing at the surface along the weeds in the warmer water, then unattaching itself and blowing east with the afternoon winds. I am all for with helping on this problem. Everything in this county is affected by it. Lets not loose this lake. The locals need to band together and tackle the issue before its too late.

I say drain it, clean it up, and refill it but then of course we would probably have to buy the water from Yolo County since Lake County saw fit to sell their water rights...just another smart move on their part!

This is probably what will happen. I went to the Indian Lake Resevoir over the weekend and it is totally dry. I'll bet the Yolos suck us dry and there is nothing we can do about it due to a previous Board of Supervisors to whom we should erect fire plug sized statues for dogs to pee on.
