Smart move folks! Look at a school here in Sullivan county that consolidated and the issues they have and the taxes DID INCREASE DRAMATICALLY after the state said they wouldn't!

How is it that after having the lottery in NY since the 70's that the school taxes have never gone down? They just recently allowed the lottery in NC on the premis that the profits would go to schools. Hmmm... I said. I've heard this before.
Watch out NC. In about five years those funds will be lawfully moved elsewhere. Once they fudge the laws.
NY should NEVER have had the funds go into the general fund. & how much does the commissioner make?

I graduated from SL in 1988. I've worked for State Gov't since graduating College. My success; I attribute that to my roots. The great people of Port Leyden and the fine education I recieved at South Lewis.
Im relieved the voters decided not to close "my" elementary school, there is NO need to consolidate! Thank you voters!

south lewis has changed allot sense the 80's now they don't teach like they used to it seems that allot of the teachers just don't care like they used to in fact i have heard one of the teacher tell their students the would never graduate and should just drop out now they were only in 10 grad well after someone older and wiser tells a teenager this what are they suppose to think the teacher was reported and the student was given detention for lying to the staff of the school not very good teaching if you ask me this was a few years back and yes this student ended up dropping out

You all post your opinions but must have had some of that good ole lewis county educaton because you either mispelled what you wrote or using profanity. Some comments were truthful, with good educated drunks everthing is all good. Wise up lewis county and get out there to make a difference for your community and schools!!!!

Hey Shanks I suppose your the authority in education? Try again. Since Lewis is a place name it should ALWAYS be capitalized! May want to look in the mirror before criticizing folks.

Although it is a little harsh, I agree with shanks. I graduated from SL in 1998 and moved away after graduating college. Seeing those that post here and live in Lewis County, it astounds me to see how incorrect grammar usage is.

All I can say about South Lewis is,most of the the students that went on to become teachers are now employed by Adirondack. Way to go South Lewis.

It's really sad to see the poor spelling and grammar on this board. Looks like those dedicated 'old" teachers forgot to teach spelling in the "good old days". I don't want to sound like a snob or offend anyone, but bad grammar and spelling seem to be the norm in the North Country. I do agree with "Bob the Builder", some of the new teachers don't seem to care, just look at how they dress in school.
There should be dress codes as for teachers as well as students, and teachers should spend more time correcting improper grammar and spelling. If a person is looking for a job outside of Boonville and Lewis County those things matter.

P.S. I made a type on my last post...It should read "There should be dress codes for teachers as well as students". I can't preach proper grammar without correcting my own mistake! Thanks

I have to chime in here.
Lewis County may not be the most educated place in the country but it certainly has some of the most wonderful, thoughtful, and caring people in the world. As a Lewis County native, I chose not to return there for work after college, however, I do love visiting friends and family that reside there.
I too have often wondered why the South Lewis BOE has a problem hiring their own graduates. What a damn shame. A bonus for Adirondack for sure.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Cancer

You feel the urge to move onward, powered by your wisdom: when you're right, you're right. You may feel that any further explanation is unnecessary, but the people you're dealing with might need it spelled out for them. Take the time to draw a picture or use smaller vocabulary words to get your point across, Cancer. A public demonstration will probably prove to be the last word on the subject.
