The "metropolitan" transportation authority should really be named the L.A. transportation authority, as that is where their loyalties and votes lie. I have watched for over 10 years as the San Gabriel Valley cities lost chance after chance to get badly needed rail transportation. At the same time, I was forced to drive some or all of the way into the LA area from Glendora at great time and expense, while generating tons of carbon into the atmosphere!!! It is more than time for the SGV to pull out our tax dollars from the MTA, and form our own tranportation agency. I am sure we can do it faster, better, and cheaper. The MTA Board ALWAYS votes in a way that serves their political masters in LA. We can and must reject this hegemony and do it now. The legislators who read this, please make it so.

This is just absurd. They need to extend the Gold line now. Lets hope by November they come to their senses and put things into action.

The MTA did not want to approve this extension yet because the cost was not high enough currently the cost is estimated at 400 - 500 million by the time the MTA get it together the cost will have doubled. Here is the catch anyone who lives in the LA County they want to raise our sales tax by a 1/2% to fund this rail line that only people who are in the foothills will have access to why should I who lives way south of the foothills have to pay more in taxes, that the MTA will with out a doubt put else ware any how. I hope the people of the LA County wake up and vote no on the new tax, make the MTA and our County figure out how to pay for this and stop waisting money and time.

By November, the project will have lost $320m in federal funding! That's free money. All MTA had to do was pony up the remaining $80m+.
Instead they voted for proposals like: * Increasing sales tax by 0.5% * Converting out car pool lanes on the 10 and 210 to toll lanes!
What can we do now?

it's all about greed. the longer this draws out the more money people will make. it's a shame that people want this train very much but greed get's in the way and normal people who need it get the shaft and the rich get richer.

As a Gold Line user, I feel sorry for the folks to the east who will have to wait years longer for some relief on their commuting costs. Maybe the board needs to be reorganized to have more representation from places east of LA. From a selfish point of view, the Gold Line is already standing room only both ways between Union Staion and Highland Park - this would have only packed us in like sardines in Pasadena.

I totally agree with Straightpath - San Gabriel Valley should separate from the MTA and form our own transportation authority. I would vote for the tax increase if those extra dollars stayed in the area where the money is needed and not sent to the general treasure chest for all of LA County. What do we have to do to accomplish this separation?(I also strongly oppose any toll-lane nonsense - I'm not going to pay to sit in traffic on the "free"way!) SGV Succession Now

No Gold Line, then no sales tax and No Toll lanes! Refuse taxation without representation. Don't buy in LA County on big ticket items, use the internet. And just revolt and disregard the toll lanes. If you get a ticket don't pay. It will only work if everyone joins in. Also we need a succession movement from Los Angeles now. Those criminals will keep riding us for taxes until we're dead. Who ever puts together succession from Los Angeles will get honored with a statue at both ends of the SGV.

Get in line an watch the slimy politicans slither away with money in their pocket an non in the kitty for the Gold Line?
Whats missing here is a reality check, for the voters who decide the fate an direction of the extension, these souls had not found a way to strip any money off the top over this extension and until they do then an only then will they allow this extension to proceed.

SGV Succession Now

You know, we are supposed to be finding ways to combat high fuel prices and what do we get.
We get carpool lane taxes on freeways we already paid for years ago. These taxes are not for new freeways as was the case in Orange County. So where the hell is the money going?
We also get a sales tax with nothing to show for. These guys at LA city hall get 20% pay raises and more money to piss away while we get killed at the pump. Outrageous, we want out now!

Extortion

Screw 'congestion pricing', aka rich-man's lanes! Screw the tax increase, too. The MTA is holding back progress and federal funds from the SGV in order to ensure that the tax passes so that LA can fund it's projects. It is using our freeways to secure funds for it's greedy agenda. When I watch the gold line end abruptly while the right-of-way continues all the way to my house I get sick to my stomach. Rosedale just built 100's of homes around a train station with no train. LA just stole $320 million from us, and is willing to give some of it back if we agree to their terms. I say we stick it to 'em SGV, VOTE NO ON THE TRANSIT TAX!

Ironically, I just happened to read the MTA's vison for the next 20 years (on their website), which to me already seemed lacking as is. There planned expansion of mass transit via rail and improved bus hardly seemed like it was enough. It seemed like their vision was at best an incremental tiny step at getting LA County into a much needed mass transit oriented area. They caveated that this vision is of course subject to funding. And what do they do? They throw the funds away!
They even invited people to "Imagine" what our city should look like in 20 years in an attempt to create a transit "wish list". Well after reading this article, sad to say, that is exactly what it will remain, a "wish list".
I'm from SF and although far from perfect, the Bay Area's mass transit infrastructure today, is years ahead of what LA's will no doubt look like tomorrow.

Either your looking at the ass end of a horse or you have not kept up with current affairs of this county or state.
Your in need of some new reading material other than what Glendora City Council passes out to it's noise makeing drones.
IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME!
Meaning only repeat ONLY people with vision should make these choices, that leaves you out since it appears you already have one foot in the grave!
So long looser! Glendora, California needs this station at the Market Place!

I have a better chance of winning the lottery than you have of ever seeing the Gold Line come through Glendora ! That you Mayor Tony V.???

Support The MTA

I support the proposed 1/2% sales tax increase to 8.75% to fund the "Subway to the Sea" and the "710 Freeway extension". Mayor Antonio Villaregosa and the MTA Board are correct when they say these projects take precedent over the "Gold Line" and the residents of the SGV should be honored to help pay for them in perpetuity. The 1/2% tax increase will never have to be rescinded even when these glorious projects are complete. The tax can then be diverted to fund the health care of all the world's people who choose to rush to Southern California for a better life.
