Hey Kev, here in So Cal, it's 80% Mexican. Oakdale had to put out signs asking visitors to NOT have picnics there. I guess other visitors did not appreciate the kiddies running all over the graves. It was a little upsetting to find a huge family sitting on my fathers grave, LOL!. Here, you better speak Spanish, they certainly won't learn English. My advice, don't visit. It would be too much of a culture shock for you.

Paganism is still alive and well in certain areas. Praying for the dead will not help them in the afterlife. If one knows what God's Word - the bible says - it is that the dead know nothing. If they died in Christ then, they will be resurrected. IIf not in Christ, then they are eternally separated from God.

Relax this is just a tradition, like Easter and Christmas.

This is one tradition I don't understand. My parents were born and raised in Mexico. All us kids were born here but they never taught us about that Day of the Dead stuff. Is this something that's more traditional to the Mexican Indians?

The Vatican teaming together with Aztecs to "celebrate" DEATH??? This is pure paganism disguised as "harmless" fun. Religious rituals is the most greatest form of brain washing mankind has ever known!
NORMAL PEOPLE DO NOT CELEBRATE DEATH, MORONS. NORMAL PEOPLE MOURN DEATH!
The Vatican does not care about your salvation, rather, they want souls to give their allegiance to the Pope. They are at the bottom of the dirt when it comes to corruption and darkness against the human family.
The Latino people have to completely conquered by them! Do not let this happen to you...educate yourself...seek the truth, the truth will set you free.

I don't think they're "celebrating" death. I think they're praying for the dead. I still don't get it but to each his own, right?

I was born here, mexican parents, never really celebrated day of the dead, from what I gather its not a celebration of death but rather dead loved ones, a day to remember them and all the great memories of who they were and moments shared w/them. I do believe its more mexican indian tradition, but never hurts to set aside one day out the year to really reflect on the ones who have passed and celerate THEM :)

We are all Americans so who really cares.

I'm sure just 10 or 20 people showed up anyway.

History Anyone?

I know what you are talking about. We buried our dad there 15 years ago. Every holiday the Hispanics (Mexicans?) are there celebrating in numbers like it is some damn fiesta. They usually collect at the west end of the cemetary. We have driven by on occasion afterwards and you can see the trash they have left behind. I would call it NO respect for the dead. Funny though, they have even managed to turn a cemetary into Tijuana.

Also would have to say I was raised Catholic (Sacret Heart in Covina) and there was never this sort of celebration within the church.
