Marine boyfriend too old for prom

Even though 18-year-old Jessica Pope of Glendale Heights spent $125 on her prom dress and her Marine boyfriend got leave to be her date, they won't be attending the prom at Glenbard East High School.

Ridiculous to reimburse for the dress. Common sense tells you that a 21 year old should not be attending a high school prom. PLEASE!

The principal is presumably of legal drinking age, should he be banned from attending too? What if principal mcbribe shows up drunk? Then what? We would have a drunken principal mcbride puking everywhere. Is principal robert mcbride an alcoholic? No way of knowing, but, better safe than sorry. Please don't ruin the prom by showing up drunk principal robert mcbride. Please, think of the children.

Are her parents cool with them? I believe it's the parental decision, not the schools.

It's not like they'll be serving alcohol at the Prom.

I hope they reimburse her for her legal expenses when she sues their asses off.
What's the big deal about his age, so he can legally to consume alcohol. The school administrators are of the age where they are supposed to think and use common sense but they aren't.
Sues them for what? Any "real damages" she may have incurred have been mitigated, and IMO, they went above and beyond that in paying for her dress.

I strongly believe in filing a lawsuit when you've been truly wronged, but I don't see it serving a purpose in this situation.

GE Parent that is very negative thing to say about all Glendale Heights students. Glenbard East is known for its diverse student body and acceptance of all. The boundaries created were for the fact that Glenbard North could not accommodate for the local students. Even if the element from Glendale Heights was not there then there will be problems similar to this. This was more of an individual problem and not that of a community.

Fact of the matter , he is old enough to drink but she is old enough to vote and is beyond the Illinois age of consent. She is old enough to serve in the Armed Forces and yet her "principal"decides she can't go to the prom with her boyfriend.
Look for real issues and leve the young lady alone.
This scenario is bovine feces.

It is sad that something as simple as parental responsibility has become a news story. Who notified the media of this anyway? Guess this kid wanted to see her name in the paper...and not in the police blotter. Her parents should be ashamed....the school did what was right. This proves that part of the problem at Glenbard East is the element that comes from Glendale Heights. What happened to the local high school being for the local community? Glendale Heights students belong at North, not East.
"GE Parent" is obviously a snob and/or a bigot. Nothing about the Trib's story suggested anything about the girl at issue other than the fact that she dates a 21-year-old Marine. Further, her name is not obviously indicative of any particular ethnicity, so I have to guess that this idiot "GE Parent" is intimating that there is something inherently wrong or inferior about anyone from Glendale Heights. Either way, it shows an appalling and infuriatingly judgmental attitude for which "GE Parent" should be truly ashamed of him/herself. Talk about stereotyping! And talk about sending your kids exactly the wrong message.

21 is not too old to go to a prom. She's 18!
I don't know exactly where the cutoff should be. But 21?

HONESTLY...if this is the biggest "problem" being faced by the school, you should really consider yourselves lucky.

To me, this looks like a normal situation that could come up anywhere, and it was handled VERY reasonably by the school authorities.

A few months ago, 2 illegals ages 21 & 22 were killed in a fiery crash while driving drunk.

After they were identified, it was revealed that they both had cocaine in their system along with the alcohol.

It was also revealed that the 21 year old was a STUDENT at the local JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, pretending to be 16.

The high school did the right thing. As a parent, I don't want my high school daughters hanging around 21 year old men - especially those whose culture glorifies "relationships" with teenagers - be they 13 or 18 years old.

I agree with Thinkaboutit - GE Parent must have been reading a different article than the one I just finished reading. The school made a decision that a 21 year old boyfriend is too old to be at the prom. I think that's an incorrect decision on the school's part.

If there was an age limit, it should have been clearly stated months BEFORE the prom. It looks as though it was a decision made with little thought and planning.

Let the marine in the prom. Common sense is no longer used in this society. You have ruined this girls everlasting memory. Too bad a compromise could not have been made.

There will be plenty of illegal alcohol there. At least the Marine won't be accused of buying it. I side with the school
