I have been opposed to the death penalty for every reason other than child abuse. I believe that anyone convicted of child abuse and neglect should receive the death penalty. I know this may have elicited some weird reactions, but I really don't believe there's any other way to punish that parent who had their own temper-tantrum and deliberately violated the most sacred bond that 2 humans can have - that between a child and mother and a child and father. Under no circumstances can there be justification for the slow, painful, tortuous death inflicted onto this poor, trusting, innocent, defenseless child. Maybe, if we invoked the punishment of death to those that willfully inflicted harm onto a child - we may have many less abused children. I believe that he should get the death penalty.

Regardless of how heinous we all agree that this crime was, if it is made clear that the "father" was mentally ill when this crime took place, life in prison would be the best the DA will get. Therefore, you would think they would have had him evaluated first before expending the extraordinary amount of additional taxpayer resources to try this as a capital case. No doubt that this guy should never taste freedom again, but I suspect this DA has additional agenda at taxpayer expense if he is going to seek the death penalty in a case that he knows very well will never end up as an execution.
Well said, Steve. When I look at the sweet boys, I think the dad should get the death penalty, but when I say that nasty picture of the dad -- and those EYES -- I think, that dude is clearly out of his mind. Put him in a mental institution/prison and drug him into a vegetable for the rest of his life (hopefully short).

Anna, if child abusers faced the death penalty, what's to stop them from killing the children they abuse?

Stupid references to dubious findings of the execution of a supposedly innocent persons make me want to scream. EVEN IF THAT MEANS I'M THE INNOCENT PERSON EXECUTED. The relative number of supposedly innocent executed, doesn't have anything to do with the need to enforce the maximum penalty on so many. Majority rule, like it or not.
And yes, televising it would do wonders in acting as a deterent. The trick is to maintain the linkage between the outrage of the crime with the suitable punishment. A chasm of 10-15 years between the two events, pretty much negates the benefit of deterency.

Patel is to India what Smith is to England.

(I.e., they're not all related - it's just a very common name.)

I dont care what race or color someone is that harms children.

KILL THEM ALL. The law should be..harm a child....DEATH. Maybe this will stop people from harming children.

Its a sad world when someone gets more prison time for selling marijuana then harming a kid.

I've noticed that Murder/Suicide attempters seem fairly consistently to be much better at the Murder part than at the Suicide part.
