I hate to tell u but in the state of Missouri social security continues after 18 if the child continues there education.. Just Mom wrote: <quoted text> If you are earning your keep then what are you doing posting crap on here. I love and take care of my children, but as a good parent I am teaching them to become responsible adults. Apparently something you are lacking...if you think that children should be supported once they reach adulthood. I am not arguing that the Death Benefits of Social Security is goverment funded, what I am arguing is the fact that people who receive support are griping because they feel like it should continue as long as the child is in college; Social Security stops at age 18, you need to get a clue. I am not bitching about taking care of my children biological or not, I am saying there has to come a time when they have to stand on their own feet...you get a clue. And trust me my children are my primary responsibility, that is why I am teaching them to be responsible self supporting adults. Maybe that is something you need to try.

I Think mo needs to enforce their child support laws and stop letting the dead beat parents off so easy I begged my daughters father to b a part of her life I told him the only thing I wanted from him was if I couldn't afford a pack of diapers to help out n get them same with thing she needed to be there so she could know him he chooses not to b there never has unless it is at his terms of convenience I gave him a yr and a half to help out to b a dad he never came around we went without a lot of things we got behind he had me scared to file child support n after 1.5 yrs I stopped letting him scare me I filed for child support she had no clue who this guy is at his own decision 2 days after he was served with child support he filed for full custody iv been fighting it since he still in almost 3 yrs has only paid 5 n a half months of child support I can't get any one to help me he lies about his.income he is non stop at bars, casinos, on vacations has 2 homes numerous cars owns 2 of his own successful businesses but refuses to help with is child won't come to birthday partys get her Xmas nothing but I'm fighting to keep my beautiful girl with me and of course I'm a single mom I injured my back busting my butt on 12 hour shifts 6 days a week looking a back surgery soon n not getting any help n a 80$ payment once every 3 to 4 months if I'm lucky I think they should do more investigating on when people r begging for them to look into things It's crazy how they can live a perfect life worry free and us be fighting n working r butts of to keep a roof over r kids head n there are plenty of people who do abuse child support ot get pregnant just to trap a man I have a good guy friend making.minimum wage trying to get by payn 700 a month on 2 kids but my daughters father makes a killing n ordered to pay 103 a month come on are system is fucked I think they need to start fixing people who can't support there kids but still party but child support enforcement needs to get on the ball n lock these losers up if there kids can't have what they need they shouldn't b able to have what they need much less everything they want!

It is the parents who do pay their child support that get punished, by having to continue to pay support on their grown adult children who attend college. Yes there are dead beats, and always will be, but why must a parent continue to pay support when their children graduate from high school and enter into the "real" world? Child support enforcement finds it easier to go write letters and sit on their asses and hound the parents that do pay their child support. Children of parents who are NOT divorced are not entitled to be supported until they turn 21 if they are attending college, so why should a NCP be required to continue to pay support; and Social Security ends when a child turns 18 (because they reach the age of adulthood....makes no sense!

because they said so... LOL
I have six months left... and she is 21
I hear they are considering having grandparents pay grandchild support if the child fails to support the children rather than have them draw social services.
Something about making families accountable for their offspring.
Oh Well...

I don't think they should have to pay anything past the age of 18 other than what they r behind on they should have to pay what they have been ordered to pay I think they should pay until they r up to date my daughters father is raising kids that don't belong to him buying them cars and everything they want but can't take care of his own its just crazy after 18 if the parents plan on helping their child threw college I think they should agree on how they do it not one to be ordered to do it but my point is they should have to pay what they're behind on wether the child is 18 or not i would never risk having my children go without wether they was with me or not n just cant wrap my mind around why any one would not put their child first

Totally agree...in my case my child is going to college living with her boyfriend and my ex is collecting the support, because she is keeping a room for her at home. Not one penny of my support is going to my child. Once they are out of high school that should be it. Even when (if) I get the support switched to my child, why am I the only one paying support...seems like the mother should also. As for fighting it out it court...well my child will be 21 before this legal battle is done.

I am a single mom of 4 kids- divorced because my ex couldn't keep his hands off other women and left us without anything. While he puts on a good show and tries to make everyone believe he is the perfect father, he owe's me $5000 in child support and has made it to the point that we are loosing our house because we are unable to pay our rent. I don't know where we are going at this point. But how do these so called parents sleep at night knowing that they are making their children homeless? How do they live with themselves? Is there any conscience there at all? I will do everything I can to make sure my kids have what they need- especially a house to call home. Why is that just my responsibility?

I am still fighting the court system..for over 6 months. Child graduated in May 2011. Moved out on her own in July 2011. Did not enroll in 12 credit hours, does not provide proof of courses or grades and the best part????? The mother gets the money not the child.

WTG.... that aint right at all!!!!! i dont know what state your in, but in Missouri, the statues are clear and in black and white... must provide proof and be enrolled in school to continue receiving funds... situations like yours make it bad for the parents that are doing right... you follow the law and have to fight it to get them to enforce it!!! just aint right!

Now, did you divide those amounts in half? The non-custodial parent is required to support you, just 1/2 of the children's needs. And if you parented kids without knowing the type of person they are...a coward who won't pay for their child, well the joke is on you.

Mike-I am in the state of Missouri. I just went back to court last Friday. It's all in the way the judge views the law. The judge made exceptions for every statue. Since she is going to enroll in 12 hours this next upcoming year I was ordered to continue paying with the exception that it now goes to the child and not the mother. We thought we had a good case going in, but it is all in the way the judge sees it. I think the law should be the law. No exceptions.

My husband has tried to have his child emancipated also due to not giving any documents about college. The judge said that simply because the child said she was going to college that was good enough. He went ahead and increased the child support also, gave the ex a judgment for medical expenses we had already paid, and then a judgment for tuition/room & board/FOOD/UTILITIES. My ex got lucky and I ended his support on my kid when I found out they dropped out of school. Got to love Missouri and the judge's "exceptions". We know exactly how WTG feels!
