Was kind of hot today but an interesting day to say the least? I was setting in the Tee-Pee smoking my pipe going over some new tourist attraction ideas; we are looking at putting together a living history program together. Just so happens the reservation sits on part of the actual trail of tears and we are wanting to do a reenactment of some of the trials and hardships that were encountered by the Cherokees during the removal to Oklahoma in 1823. I was going over some of the plans with some of the reservation officials, when all of a sudden outside the tee-pee came the loudest war cry’s I have ever heard.WOOOOOOOWWWHHHHOOOOOOO!! !! We got up and ran outside to find one o the young Cherokee men on his horse at full run, going around in a big circle. Yipping at the top of his lungs, he made about three rounds and headed down the road. We turned and looked at each and shrugged our shoulders. Then we notice a young attractive woman standing there in the settling dust. We asked who she was and if she knew what had happened. She told us her name and that she was sent from New York by the company that was going to be helping us with the living history program. She said that she didn’t’ know what was wrong with the young Cherokee man on the horse. She said that her car had broken down about five miles down the road, and while she was waiting he came along and asked if she needed help. She told him she was headed to the reservation and he said hop on his horse and he would give her a ride to the reservation. Then the lady told us she climbed up on the horse, put her arms around his waist grabbed a hold of the saddle horn and he let out a loud, WOOOOOOOOWWWWHHHOOOOOOO!!!! She said they took off at a full gallop and the tighter she held on to the saddle horn the louder and faster he would go.

That’s when the other officials and I looked at each other and smiled then we turned to her and I said. Mamma, Cherokees ride bare back.
