I think Gilbert needs a sidewalk. I would love to be able to go out for a walk and be able to push my baby in his stroller without fighting the gravel, traffic, dips in the road. It would be so nice.

You don't have to have somewhere to go to just get out and walk. Walking in circles on a track gets monotonous. Some of us like to get out and EXERCISE. What other more important things would you suggest, uncle sam?

I thought the town got money to do that with?? I think someone should call washington and tell them that the town officials are misappropriating the funds they have been granted to for town developement and improvement. I bet they would start building the sidewalks then??

The Town of Gilbert needs more than just a place to walk. The town needs more businesses but then if it had them, you people would still go somewhere else to shop. The shop at home never caught on. So that is my opinion.

Just because a town has been awarded grant money for a project does not mean the town has received money for a project. There is a lengthy process to projects like this, including but not limited to: budgeting; planning and design; the bidding process (which is most likely regulated to require a certain timeframe that the bidding process must remain open); organization by the winning bidder; and the actual construction phases for the project.

My guess is that being awarded grant money a couple of months ago and having a sidewalk installed by this point would be unheard of or at least result in a sub-par sidewalk. Instead of speculating or insinuating that town officals are defrauding the government and misappropriating the funds, why not call Town Hall and politely ask for information on the sidewalk project. I'm sure that wouldn't be nearly as fun, but it would be the smarter thing to do.

As for the sidewalk project itself, I have heard that the plan is to have as much sidewalk as possible built for the money that was awarded this year, and then apply for grants each year until the sidewalk runs the length of town. I believe the first section was going to run from the Speedway area to the old Exxon Station (depending on the bids for the project). There would also be benches and street lights along the way.

It has been a long time since I have heard about these plans, and that was just the initial design. This could all change due to design and funding.

I think the town of Gilbert needs a bulldozer... to run it over and bury it so deep, it can never be found. That would suit me just fine!

Perhaps we can place Keyboard Commando and Cocnbawls first in line for the bulldozer/nuc bomb/flood. Get those morons out of everybody's hair. That flood comment was very out of line. A lot of people were affected and lost everything they had. You must have serious issues. I bet your issues have issues.
As for the sidewalk project, I didn't know there are grants and development ideas going on about that. I'm glad though. As an actual citizen of the town I think it will be a great benefit for those of us who don't mind to get off our butts and walk every now and then.
We do need more businesses also, I agree with that. They need to use all those rooms in Town Hall for things such as that. They already have a visitor's center, library, thrift store, and a thing or two more. I wonder what they charge to rent a room? We need a few boutiques and a bakery. A hunting and fishing store would be a good idea. There are a lot of different ideas that come to mind.

Business opportunites abound in Gilbert, but it requires individuals or groups to take a chance. We have some very talented people in the area that would thrive by utilizing their talents to produce goods or provide services. All of the potential businesses you mentioned were good suggestions, Candy Cane, and that is only the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

For one, you nor your family was hurt by the flood. We have family members that was hurt. That remark was stupid and un-called for. Someday you may be in need and the waters may reach you, then come back and say that. It hurt lots of people and not everyone got that FEMA money nor SBA grants. Shame on you.

You are correct - phone calls are not as fun as commenting on this website. I guess you know that too, seeing as though you comment on every other thread - which is fine; you usually make a sound argument and provide insight.

I think the town was awarded this money, if memeory serves, back in February, maybe? That should be plenty of time to have completed several of your "to do" list items. Also, if they were awarded the money this year and plan to use it this year, I would think they would be in a bigger hurry to do so what with it being Novemeber and all. A spurr of the moment comment doesn't usually require a phone call or alot of thought. I simply offered a suggested answer as to why there have been no sign of sidewalks in spite of the town being awarded money to do it with. I did notice some nice "Welcome to Gilbert" signs on every free standing pole, which is why I suggested misappropriations, which is not really anything to be up in arms about.

There probably are things needed in the town more than sidewalks and benches, although they would make it look much nicer, and I hope they do become a reality. There have been alot of improvements to our town in past few years, and I for one hope nothing ever bury's or floods the town again.

I misspoke with what I said earlier about using it this year. What I meant to say was that the money that was awarded this year was to be used for what ever size sidewalk segment the town could have built...whenever that particular segment could be built. I didn't mean to imply that the town was to have the sidewalk built this year; sorry for not stating my thoughts correctly. The plan was supposed to be that the town would try to get grant money each year that it is available, and have that money put toward a particular segment until all segments are complete. I think the completion of the sidewalk in its entirety would be several years after the last grant was awarded.

The current water extension project in Tamcliff had its first dollars set aside nearly seven years ago(!), and we are just now seeing the fruits of those seeds. Unfortunately, things like this tend to take a long time to materialize. Here's to hoping that town officials continue to apply for grants each year, and the town is awarded the money each year.

Thanks for the compliments on my sound arguments. However, I would guess that I comment on less than 2% of the threads on here. I usually pop in when there is a decent argument for two sides and I have something I feel is helpful to one of those sides. I also like to provide facts when erroneous statements are made and the facts are easily attained. I also try my best to stay out of muckraking threads, which make up a large portion of the Gilbert forums. Though I post on here occasionally, I don't comment on every other thread, and I do try to get the facts before I post. That's just my style.

If the town was awarded the money in Feb (I'm not saying they were or were not because I know nothing on the subject) maybe the flood had something to do with the delay. Soilent Green believes the first segment is supposed to be from the old Exxon to Speedway and they just got the road, creek bank, and guard rails fixed there. Either way, 7 years on the Tamcliff water extension is a long time to wait. I'm sure it does take time though. If we have to wait 7 years on the sidewalks my kids will have long since been out of a stroller and I won't have to worry about fighting the stroller through gravel if I choose to walk. [lol =)]

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
