I am sickened by this video. And we wonder why we we have trouble finding competent drivers for our buses? The lack of respect for authority by a great majority of our youth (Our Leaders of Tomorrow) astounds me!

charge that driver and her daughter!!
a lack of respect, or not following bus rules does not equal "battery" for those of you who are not aware of the law!!

The girl seemed to have escalated the situation. Bus drivers cannot let little kids off the bus even if they throw a fit. You can only get off on your stop. Students are allowed to have cell phones but if they use them on school property they are to be taken. This bus drver acted in the best interest of the child. What type of district or police department would go after her for doing her job. Had she let the little girl off the bus and the student got hit by a car then she would have been sued.

It all boils down to complete lack of respect to those in authority. The Parents of that Brat needed to give her a good swat when she was about 5 years old. I drive a school bus. You have no idea what we put up with daily. We are mostly retired people nurses, police, officers etc....
We get treated like the scum of the earth by these kids. You wonder why there is a nation wide
school bus driver shortage!
Also the female student is reaching towards the drivers compartment to get to the handle to open the air pressure controled door. I would shove someone too if they are endangering a bus load of kids.

is everyone forget that the bus driver hit the student? if you are going to be working for the schools you need to know how to handle yourself as well as your temper especially dealing with the young people of today. as far as cell phones every one has one and who cares. it wasn't in the classroom it was on the bus. give me a break. the girl obviously called the one person who she can rely on and gave her permission to get off so that gives the responsibility back to the parent if something would have happened to her. but again all the yelling and chaos never ever gives anyone the right to place their hands on another. especially a school official. what if it was your child who was physically assaulted and hit on by an adult? what would you do? and being at work and on the phone while it is happening? and you ask why the bus driver should lose her job? maybe some of these people need to watch the brutality again. they may not have respect but it is no reason for that kind of violence from anyone unless its a parent..and even that kind of physical dicipline is questionable.

Should the authority HIT students? Do teachers in NC hit students or grab them?

It's hard to do what you know is right when someone who is in a position of authority tries to prevent you from doing so.
The bus driver had no right to try to detain her in any manner or take her personal property. She tried to maintain her composure for quite some time despite the actions of the stubborn bus driver.
If it was my kid I would want the driver to let them off the bus, in effect what she did was kidnapping. She was detaining her against her will and should be brought up on charges.

This is exactly what is wrong today with our society. Derek and ljoy and Toby are all forgetting the disrespect, and failure to comply with a simple request this young lady exhibited. Limp wristed whiners all! "It is not my fault!" "Society is to blame!" "I have ADVHVHLMKEKNO or any of the alphabet soup disabilities that get "discovered" every year!" Blame someone else! It works in the US!

You guys that are against the whole situation dont know what is going on..... This bus drive stops all the time for stupid **** all the time. Sure the students are disrespectful... but all these ignorant adults must have forgotten what it was like to get out of school after having to sit an your *** for 6 hours. Of coarse the kids are going to talk and be loud. THEY ARE EXCITED!!! The stupid bus drive should NOT have even touched her. The teen asked her and TOLD her NOT TO TOUCH HER more then once. and if you look, it was like the teen adn her mom ganged up on the chick just because she went for her phone. So that buss driver should NOT work around kids and should be FIRED!!!! stupid b****

I think that all you people who are siding with the bus driver need to look at this tape a couple more times. The student on this bus just wanted off the bus driver had no right to touch her at all. If you watch the video the student was just going to get something or look out the window and the BUS DRIVER put her hands on the student AGAIN I honestly dont even think the student hit the bus driver. She was just simply trying to get the bus driver off of her. This bus driver needs to be fired and her daughter charged. I don't think that the student should be charged. Emma said "that your not aloud to let kids off the bus" ok Emma your also not supposed to stop the bus for no damn reason. You people who disagree need to put yourself in that situation. I know that if you were in this situation and you stood up to get off the bus and the bus driver touched you you'd have done the same thing. The bus driver grabbed her before she even asked her to sit down. I highly suggest you people review this tape again and if you have the same opinion you are probably just blind.

Both the girl and the driver are to blame. First of all the girl lacks total respect for authority, by shutting up and doing as she was told this whole situation could of been avoided. Now we all know that she shares the same attitude as all of today's youth, so the driver should of thought a little clearer and handled the disrespecful girl better. Instead she lowered herself to the childs level and struck her. No one has the right to hit anyone let alone a child. Both are to blame and both should be charged.

For some reason my previous post didn't get posted, so here is the readers digest version:

Bus drivers have an immense responsibility, and should have commensurate authority. Their word should be trusted over a child's word unless they are proven to be liars.

Many parents won't respect bus drivers (or frankly anybody else) and must be presented with videotaped evidence.

Just because other adolescents take a misbehaving adolescent's side in an altercation doesn't mean the bus driving adult wasn't in the right.

The child in question has no appreciation for bus drivers' responsibility or respect for their authority.

The child in question is undisciplined and spoiled by her mother who has no intention of imposing discipline or allowing anybody but a court of law to do it either.

The School District has expelled the child and let the courts take control, since her mother apparantly will not and will not allow the school to do it either.

The child now faces criminal charges for her behavior.

Many of you feel her behavior was somehow justified because you have very little understanding of disciplined behavior yourselves, and even with video evidence, you can't understand inappropriate behavior when you see it.

Parents who refuse to accept a school's authority over their children will continue to have to answer to a judge in a court of law.

Judges are not stupid, and are not as convinced as parents are that their children are just innocent victims of mean old teachers and bus drivers who are out to "get" their kids because they don't like them. Moreover, they do have the ability to recognize inappropriate behavior when they see in on video tape.

Judges are not as inclined to be as accomodating and benign as school officials.

Parents and their misbehaving children who refuse to accept school officials' discipline will continue to pay a heavier price for their insistance on taking every disciplinary matter that happens in, or in route to or from school to a court of law.
