Fire Marshal Bill wrote: Pete, I saw you in Gettysburg Saturday. It was about 12:20 and you were crossing Baltimore Street in front of the Rupp House. Pete, Gettysburg has cross walks for pedestrians to cross the street in safety. I noticed you just stepped off the curb and walked diagonally across the street, and not even watching traffic. As you know Remberance Day is very busy in Gettysburg, and many of the tourist are gawking at the many re-enactors along the street and are not necessarily watching for someone crossing where they want. Please use the cross walks from now on. LMAO! Do you feel important now? You should have been wearing you, "VIP, just ask me" button, then Pete would have known you are an authority not to be taken lightly.

No, I don't in anyway feel important. But our local emergency responders are. And I just hate to see our local VOLUNTEERS place themselves in danger responding to, and treating an individual who was too stupid and careless to look out for their own safety. Pete should consider himself fortunate that it was me who was there rather than someone rubbernecking to take in all the sites of the special day. I did stop, and didn't even honk my horn at the arrogant individual walking like they own the town. And next time, even if in the pedestrian cross walks, move a bit faster Pete.

There are jerks, drunkards and womanizers inGettysburg... I , for one, do not approve of running them over..

Did you see someplace in my post where in encouraged such an action? But I believe you will find the type of person you describe in most any town, please don't try to tell me you have NONE in your community. But when in Gettysburg on days with all the reenactors around and traffic congestion such as it was, both pedestrians and drivers need to be very aware of what is going on.

Yes I agree they are VOLUNTEERS, they want to do it. They know the risks they are taking. I have the highest regards for them to do that with their time. I agree that one should look out for themselves and don't think the world will stop for them. BUt, with that being said, everyone and I mean every one has done things that was considered careless without thinking we've all stepped off the curb, got in line without waiting our turn, pulled out in front of someone. The way to look at it, was that day you were being vigilant and you looked out for Pete, maybe one day he'll be vigilant and your head will be in the clouds.

FMB;Whoever in your adled brain you saw that you thought was me,was not me.I always obey regulations. But,you in your simple ways(another example of the people that made Mr.LeVan cringe when he realized he had to depend on you people for support for the casino)try to portray someone who neither of us know as myself. There is a good chance he knew you though and was just racing to get away from you before he had to talk to you.You know, like you are always "talking" to people about everything.Annoying them to be more precise. Was an enjoyable weekend.Especially without a casino in the area.

Yes we all do stupid and careless things at times and fortunately there are usually no problems. At times they are things we don’t necessarily realize are wrong or dangerous until someone brings it to our attention. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, there are a few times each year when walking and driving in the area are extremely hazardous. We have a very high concentration of visitors driving and walking, all looking at the attractions and re-enactors and not paying attention to traffic or pedestrians like they should. As a local, I know when these times of the year are, and where the congested and troublesome areas are and I try to avoid them. Unfortunately business Saturday required me to travel that section of town. I do so hate to see anyone involved in an accident, and from experience I know that when one member of a family is involved it ruins the event for the entire family and friends as well as others involved or observing the incident. Remberance day is always a special event in Gettysburg and I know many people really enjoy the event. I would hate to see anyone have their special day out ruined by an accident that could have been avoided. As to the emergency responders knowing what they are getting into, and wanting to do it, I will give you partial credit for being correct.(and not trying to start an argument) They do well know what they are getting into. They don’t necessarily want to place their lives in danger, but do want to provide a service to their community. There are a few professions where individuals train to do a job that they hope they never have to do, and fire fighters and emergency medical technicians are two of them.
