NO More Borovent

Wow, the Gettysburg bytch club is losing their grounds. Now, their closing down Borovent. My, my my, what are some of the "super posters" ( and we all know who you are) going to do? The G'burg Sun stopped running Topix, and now this news. <SNICKER>

It's no wonder. They claim that they exist for EVERYONE in the area to be allowed to come on and voice their concerns about the area. However, God forbid you go on there and have a differing opinion than those in their little click. They attack you! I saw it happen too many times to count. They had a "do as I say, not as I do" mentality. They could talk trash about others but if you did so about someone or something they liked/believed in, they were all over you for it. And many times I'd see them rant and rave about how some town people talk trash about "transplanters", people who moved here from other areas, and yet they did the same thing! Hypocrites!

I also see one complaint was about not having enough donations to keep the site up. Hello, there are TONS off free forums such as, createforum, that they could set up and use and have fully functioning like theirs is now. No need to pay for hosting and all that jazz. If the site is REALLY to serve as a place for people in the area to come and discuss issues of the town, then they would open such a thing.

I am a bit curious about your life experience. I have seen strong disagreements expressed on BV.

Yes I have seen some pretty vicious attacks on some people, but those people usually disserved it.

If I come to visit you and start with some simple conversation, and talk about the weather, how is the family, what have you done lately, and then start a discussion where we have different opinions you will probably accept that wouldn’t you?

Now, how will you feel when I come to visit and the very first thing I do when you answer the door is tell you how stupid you are for having your opinion of something that you have experience in and have thought about for a long time.

Give this a try. Take a little trip to Baltimore and visit the Camden Pub at 647 W. Pratt Street in Baltimore and as soon as you walk through the door shout at the top of you lungs that John Harbaugh is a complete a$$ and has no idea how to run a foot ball team. See how you make out.

Then sometime go to Turp’s Sports Bar on Charles Street, and go in. Sit and talk with someone a while. Ask them some questions, and then begin to discuss some special plays during the last game, and maybe express your displeasure over how he coached the game and the team.

Then tell me about the two experiences.

Oh yay! The hypocrites that seem to hate Gettysburg are finally closing down. Was nothing but a get together for a bunch of whiners and complainers to hang out anyway. I highly suggest they get out and into some larger cities. See how things are run in other areas. Maybe then they'll come to appreciate all that they do have in Adams County.

Why is taking care of the forum such an issue with them? If they weren't so concerned with deleting and monitoring posts and people who disagree with them, then taking care of the forum wouldn't be a full time job or an issue. I've taken care of similar forums in the past and it didn't take much of my time at all. Just put spam controls in place for the bots that would come and post ads (and those controls come installed in most forums), then check and allow new members like once a week or day. Other than that the thing ran itself with the occasional checking to make sure that people were playing nicely. No big deal. Seems like the shutting down is for the better. Doesn't sound like they knew how to run the thing anyway. They made it more work than it needed to be.

Just to be factual. Only one poster was ever band and no posts were ever deleted. Disagreeing posts were never monitored. People with thin skin or people that can't handle a differing opinion just do not post there.

Nile, I believe they have BoroVent confused with that grass roots organization I will not mention that has a couple of sites where they are well known for removing post and banning people who only corrected their misinformation.

Wow! I read this earlier and was just gonna pass it by. I figured everyone pretty much covered most of what I had to say about this. However, with the addition of the last few posts, I just had to say something.

I had originally found Boroughvent when I first moved into town and used to read the site frequently and also even posted a few times. However, the moment I had a varying opinion on a subject it was like I was ostracized and attacked. After a week of going through back and forth banter, it appeared that we all agreed to disagree. But I was wrong, even weeks later they were still tossing snide comments in my face that had to do with our previous disagreement. I was disappointed to say the least but not shocked.

And I expected it because, when I first came to the forum I was jumped on for being a part of another group or something, just as they have done above to the other poster, when in fact I wasn't. Like I said I had just moved to the area and had a few questions, which they did answer, but not without first accusing me of being someone or a part of something I was not.

Over time I noticed that being the norm with this group. They'd jump and attack any new person and accuse them of being friends with or a part of this other group they so desperately seem to despise or are afraid of. For whatever reason. In fact, I had one of the high post members send me a private message expressing his apologies and saying how he also, disliked the way the majority jumped on new members and ALWAYS assumed they were someone they weren't. He was afraid that they were always chasing away new members. It was apparent to me that he was afraid to say anything to those other members because they were obviously friends.

Many members of that forum would often toss around names and things I didn't even have a clue about and when I'd tell them I was clueless to what and who they were referring to, they didn't seem to believe it. And rather than explain it they'd just laugh and continue with their inside jokes.

Anyway, once I saw that same accusation above, I just had to say something because, that is one of the main reasons I stopped going to that message board and I now seek my info elsewhere. Like here on Topix. Not that many people post here. Anyway, they definitely do NOT make new members or new townspeople feel welcomed at all on their message board.

I do agree with others above in saying that perhaps it's good that message board closed down anyway. There was only a handful of people who posted there as is so why waste all that time for such little cause or people.

Perhaps in the future someone else will start a message board so that the people of the town can use it and partake in IMPORTANT conversations without being and feeling ostracized.

I must admit I never saw anyone treated in that fashion that did not come ripping dishing out exactly what they got back. sorry if you were the lone exception.
Since we can see things on archives please share what your user name was on that site. We can then look back and see this mistreatment first hand. Since your user name is anonymous there is no harm in letting us do that is there?

I read BoroVENT and topix for many years, I see no differnce in how people act on either site. I've seen just as much and in many cases worse here on topix.
