Freshman, start paying taxes then you can have a say in the matter. Stop using the building as an excuse for not learning. Trust me your building is much nicer than the one I attended and I got a good education.

LOL, first off, yrs I guess I am an old dart to you. But this old fart is tired of being taxed out the wazoo for each and everything any person thinks the govt ought to do for them. Please explain your statement "we deserve much better". What makes you think you deserve "much better"? I never made any statement about walking to school, where did you read that? Apparently our schools need to stress reading comprehension a bit more. I have been in greenville schools many times. believe me they are in far better shape then the school I attended. Throwing money into buildings is not the answer. We do not need our schools to be palaces. I understand overcrowding may be an issue, that does need to be adressed. However, as a child and student you have no say in this matter. My original point still stands, when you grow up and start paying taxes you can have a say in what happens. When I was a child I wanted a pony, I never got that either.

poor you that was then this is now get with thw new way of life old fart, and you are a old fart not a old dart ..... Wow. Just note the grammar here. Punctuation? No new school building is going to help this child. How can any student reach the freshman level of high school and display this type of grammar?

Maybe if you were living back in the "old days" (and I'm probably around the same age of "Greenville Native"), you'd be a little more respectful to your "elders"... I talked to my daughter who attends the High School and she told me that the worse thing in the high school is cockroaches...that doesn't call for a new school, that calls for an exterminator....as for the middle school where a chunk of it fell off, yeah, they deserve a "safer" place to attend school. I would never want to see a child get hurt b/c of unsafe conditions....I'm willing to pay higher taxes ONLY if you're in dire need of a new school. And Freshman, tell me what IS so bad about your school?? Help me understand here...

How are you going to pay for it??? From what I hear Greenville is bad off and the rest of Ohio is not that far behind you in being broke. Where are your jobs? Oh yeah, forgot, they went away. So there went you tax dollars, guess you won't have a new school soon. Think about it people of Greenville, why would you want to build something and not have the money to pay for it. Oh, Oh, sorry, I just realized that this is how we live in America today, sorry my bad.

They have needed one for many years, but the old kooks without kids in the school system will keep voting it down. Greenville needs more young blood I think.

Look around Chuck. Many of the major employers have left or severely cut back their workforces. That kills the tax revenues from corporate income taxes, property taxes, payroll taxes, etc. People not working cuts down on the spending they could do as well as personal income taxes. Banks have cut back credit for businesses, buying homes, home equity loans, financing for cars and major appliances, and credit card limits. That's another reason spending drops, and it's spending by consumers that gives our economy its biggest stimulus. So the amount of sales tax revenue falls off as well. Many of you have blamed the older generation for voting down the levies to raise the money for a school. We can't afford it. Costs in all areas are rising--water/sewer rates, food, gas, utilities, prescription meds, you name it. Under Governor Taft, Ohio's taxes went up, and that scared off businesses. That's one reason why people vote down school levies. This is one cost we can control. You can call us names, you can make broad generalizations (like the people saying "no" to levies don't have kids in school anymore), but nothing you can say or do will change the reality of what I've said. And the name-calling isn't going to make us more willing to listen. That's the sign of someone who hasn't any strong arguments to support their position. A few people mentioned safety, which is a valid concern; but it's human nature to take chances. Apparently not enough people take the threat of a student being hit by falling debris as worth the extra taxes to build a new school.
