What are the areas that Luther Mason, Phyllis Young, and Haley Conway represent?

Parents should start asking questions about future plans for Scott County Schools. Is there a plan? How long can Putty live on the coat-tails of high school AP students' successes and the intervention program (a drug or remediation program)? Parents have a responsibility to ask the board (they voted in) for a plan for the next 2-3 years. What will the BOE do with the overcrowding at the high school this year, next year, and 5 years from now? Will they care? Does Putty care? Obviously not, or she would not have taken the hefty $20,000.00 (15%) raise when other superintendents across the state are accepting 2-3%. Have you been to the board meetings where they all recite the mission statement? It's sickening. All talk and no action. Parents are the key. A plan? Specifically from Putty and the school boards mouth, and I quote, "There is no plan!" end quote.

Seriously, is that a quote from the newspaper or a board meeting? I can't believe that would be stated and if so, she is truly dummer than a rock with the board the hosting rock.
Unbelievable!

Unbelievable! If I remember correctly, that was an actual quote but I don't remember which one said it. It is a fact that there is no plan for a new high school and no plan to make a plan.

And, you would think Dr. Ward would have more sense, but he had become number one kiss up to Putty also. He has no spine. He must go.!! The only one I would keep at this point is Conway and that is only because he has the guts to ask hard questions.

What is the board attorney's position in regard to the 15% raise /$20,000.00 increase in salary of the superintendent?

It's funny how a lot of people are wanting other people to run for the board. Do it yourself! Just be ready to get paid $75 a month and feel the pressure from the people who said you aren't doing what they wanted you to do. Just remember you can't change Mrs. Putty's legally approved contract, just try and you will get sued.

I got a solution to this 15% raise, why not just pay Mrs. Putty overtime for all hours she works over 40 hours. I'm no mathematician but here's how I see it, most superintendents work atleast 50 to 70 hours a week. So let's just say she works 50 hours a week for 50 weeks a year, and gets paid time and a half ( hourly pay is calculated as (salary / 50 weeks)= weekly, weekly / 40 hours = hourly rate; 10 hours at time and a half for a year would equal: $47,625. If she was only paid straight time, it would equal: $31,750. Hey, if I were her, I would renegotiate the contract. It's amazing what a little common sense and a calculator will do.

Most people, especially educators, work 50-70 hours a week. Last I checked, Ms. Putty doesn't have a doctorate degree that would somewhat justify a higher salary. She really is not more qualified than many teachers in the ranks. She has a low profile in the community, and based on what I hear from teachers, seldom even answers emails or graces the schools with her presence. So if she is putting in that much time, she needs to reevaluate how she spends her time, who she surrounds herself with to help her get the job done, and how she can more efficiently and wisely deliver a quality education to Scott County youth. Again, she is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpaid for what she does. And, what an awful time to accept such a tremendous raise. It is beyond words. Keep the outrage alive, people. All of us would love to be paid for all the extra time we put into our jobs...Ms. Putty is being more than compensated at a time the rest of the school system is bleeding to death. Putty and the Board have an imperial attitude, and the people are getting revolution fever.

Good news in the newspaper - Conway will run again. Bad news: So will all the others whose time it is to run again - Interesting that no one on the board has a student currently in SC schools. Interesting that Mason is 85 and has been on the board for 60 years (I'm only exaggerating a little).

Here! Here! Thank you Mr. Scogin and Mr. Editor for the two great pieces in Saturday's News-Graphic on the Scott school district. Well stated and absolutely true! There is obviously a BIG problem with our school district. Although the call is out for parents, what do you expect them to do? As mentioned, the Task Force has not even had a chance to report back. When it does, it will be an exercise in futility. It does not take brains to realize we were used to calm the natives. Unfortunately, I'm riled now, especially with the $20,000 raise when we were specifically informed of the district's financial hardships.
Sounds like someone or several are liars.

She works 50 - 70 hours per week. Teachers do it every week also. If you calculate their hourly pay based on hours worked, it can be as low as $3.50 / hour.
Please no tears or sad face this time when informing teachers about no raises.

I've never heard of a teacher working 50 -70 hours week. If they did the school system would be better.

Lots of work is done at home and on weekends. You've never heard of it because teachers don't complain about it. Not all teachers, but definitely many.

The teachers deserve a $ 20,000 raise! Putty doesn't have a doctorate! It is time that teachers made more than the janitors.

Probably more like the 70, not to mention the money they spend on supplies for their classrooms because the schools don't give them enough to get by. I don't know what planet you live on, or maybe you just don't know any teachers, but the idea that the superintendent gets a $20K raise is beyond my realm of thinking. That $20K should be going to the schools, the teachers, anywhere but in her pocket. Teachers get paid next to nothing to teach our kids, put up with the crap that happens every day and they don't get a raise. They work a hell of a lot more hours than putty, alot probably have more education that she does as well. What a slap in the face to teachers and your comment is as well. Follow a teacher for a week and you will be amazed at what they do OUTSIDE the classroom. Shame on you for your ignorant comment.

This is NOT about teachers or administrators and time spent above and beyond as part of their job duties and those "as assigned by the superintendent".
This is about a $20,000.00 raise given to an individual (the superintendent) who does not hold a doctoral degree at a time when all anyone hears or reads in the papers is how the district finances are in dire straits. This has been drummed into the minds of anyone who has listened to this woman since her arrival in Scott County and to which the board is led to believe as well.
I don't begrudge anyone a raise, but now? What was she thinking? What was the board thinking?
Absolutely the statement in a prior post is correct. It is the responsibility of the parents to take action.
Will Scott County be all talk and no action?
