The Younkin family should stay out of the sky before they take someone else with them, I live right by Syroco and would've been pissed had he hit my house or my kids. What a bunch of idiots. STAY ON THE GROUND YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLY!

Schlongwort.....it is better to remain silent and though and idiot than to speak up and remove all doubt. You have confirmed you're a idiot. Matt Younkin is a fine pilot as we his dad and grandfather. Flying is not inherintly dangerous, but unlike driving a car, is much less forgiving of carelessness or mistakes. A lesser pilot would have died in that airplane in that situation. He did quite well considering the situation.

I've been flying for over 30 years and have survived a couple of engine failures and forced landings myself. Have you?

Do you have a pilot's license? Didn't think so.

Schlongwort, your location is showing as Greer, SC...how in the world could you have almost been hit by a plane going down in western AR? Try being informed instead of just opinionated

Best recovery, Matt! I can't believe the hateful posts; those people have nothing better to do; why are they reading aviation news anyway? They have no skills which have been developed over years and years and nothing to be proud of...So they attack those who do.
Look forward to Matt's recovery so we can see more of the Younkin family brand of fine flying!

I assume that the experimental label on this plane indicates that it was a Monocoupe reproduction or were modifications made that took it out of the certified category?

I instruct out of the same airport where Matt is based....The Younkin planes are all heavily modified, so I would imagine that none of them are certified in the Normal category

Your location is based upon where your Internet connected hits at that time. I'm in Siloam but my location will probably come up something crazy today because I'm linking to an out of state server.

Well, isn't that just breathtakingly stupid! I figure "Lexus" is the model of pretend car you drive your imaginary girlfriend around in?

Matt Younkin is a far better pilot than you are a thinker, I can tell you that. Sheesh.

The aircraft is an experimental aircraft built by I believe his grandfather Jim. I saw one up close this summer, gorgeous airplane. It is a purpose built aircraft to look like a monocoupe but with safety changes to make it better. The original was built with relatively small empenage surfaces and made it a handful at slower speeds. Jim changed a little here and there to make it a beautiful all around airplane. Original monocoupes were built in the 1930's air racing era to go fast, not really designed to be a stable machine. The one I saw had a P&W R-985 up front, real beautiful aircraft. Matt, speedy recovery my friend. Anyone who has seen his flying knows he flies these aircraft in an extremely graceful manner.

These idiots posting hate are the same ones that buy homes next to hiways and complain about traffic. Don't expect anything useful to come from them. They couldn't even manage to sell carnie food at an airshow.

stay trashy.....

Jimmy Franklin was not the co-pilot, he was the pilot of a second aircraft that collided in mid-air with the one flown by Bobby Younkin.

Unfortunately, the term "Experimental" is used and understood by the media and the non-pilots to mean unsafe and unproven. That is totally wrong. A certified airplane can be placed, temporarily or permanently, into the experimental category by making any change that is currently uncertified by the FAA. This change could be as small as replacing wingtip lights with new, brighter, more efficient LED wingtip lights. The fact that the new lights are not yet certified, even if they are much better, could force the airplane into the experimental category. Every Certified airplane flying today started from a prototype that was at one time "Experimental".
"Experimental" does NOT mean unsafe, or unproven.
