I do not see, that those big ugly, mailboxes, close to the road, which are a danger, not only for drivers, but because people will be parking their cars, and getting out, opening doors into the traffic. If you think they are better, Than well kept, mail boxes and also, the older people can not walk a half mile down the road,to send or pick up their mail, who's big idea is this??????????
I hope it's not because the mail cariers, are working to hard, and getting all that retirement, just for driving around, that keeps our mail rates going up every year.I think it's a shame,Soldiers
laying down their lives, get the same or less at retirement.

Actually, I think part of the reasoning was due to traffic concerns and safety. The mailman starting and stopping at every mailbox along the main roads, backing up traffic or causing people to swerve around them, has caused a number of bad accidents. The large community mailboxes were to be erected in areas where people would not be "parking" and getting out of their cars in traffic. Most are where you can drive up to them and get your mail, without leaving your car. Many cities use these mailboxes and have no problems with them. As far as regular "well kept" mailboxes mentioned... Take a drive and look at the crappy mailboxes of all shapes, sizes and colors along the main roads. And the older people or the handicapped can request door delivery if they are not able to get to a box.

What does your having gotten the mail for your neighbors have to do with anything? Great that you are a nice person and are helping your neighbors, but just because you may not like a decision that has been reached, doesn't make it unintelligent. Apparently, there are many more people who want the community mailboxes than those that don't. Election time is coming - the commission is more inclined to go with what the majority want so they can get or keep the votes. You may just be in the minority here.

carla ,Honestly I dont use the mail for almost anything .no bills , I dont get magazines , only net flix and I stream most of that to my tv over the net too. But Im thinking that its a giant butt ugly box , the block behind me has one and its a giant ugly steel box . and the mail men really dont do much , and honestly if anyone here had half a brain , all main roads would be built with a shoulder for deliveries , and other things like not getting rear ended when making a right turn , saxon and now normandy are great examples of Moronic road building design .and me getting my neighbors mail , well I was just putting it out their that mail men really dont have that hard a job to start with and making them be able to be even lazier is unbelievable ..do like other states , theres a freakin sidewalk on most of the roads with this traffic issue , let them walk the beat .
now where are they gonna put these ugly assed boxes, and if its at the end of the same said road causing traffic tie ups and accidents , isnt like 50 people getting their mail going to put those people in danger? keep that crap for the trailer parks and condo complexes .I prefer my mail box at my house . God this citys priorities are so ass backwards It sickening ..

And the commission ( who are idiots ,Ive been to the meetings , they are all idiots ) are gonna listen to only 1 thing , what money is going into their pockets . If you believe for one minute that a politician cares about his or her constituents then you are living in fantasy land ..have you not seen the idiocy that has come out of this surfer daddys boy whos never held a job ? the fact he has anyone who disagrees with him fired ..or are you like the obama supporters ? just blind and believe what these idiots tell you . WTF lady , how is this gonna help the community get what it needs , jobs and a way to help the people who are losing their homes? the real priorities should not be the mail man it should be the value of our homes and how to fix the fact that their is nothing within 40 miles of here that actually pays any money .There is a big reason Microsoft walked from the deal with volusia and deltona , same with the 2 car dealerships that were "allegedly " gonna be built here , the city administration is a bunch of uneducated morons that all need to be thrown out. seriously Im not thinking that the majority of deltona is concerned about mailboxes , I think ( again just like obama ) the administration should be concentrating on how to help their people work and support their families not lil bs crap like this .

I know how the postal workers feel when they see someone comming at their backside too fast. I live on somewhat of a main road and when I was slowing down today in an attempt to turn into my driveway with my turn signal on, I was almost rear-ended by a really ugly guy driving a white SUV and he gave me a "jesture" while I was careening into my driveway to avoid his oncomming threat.
I think we need more post office boxes, and I don't think the workers are being out of line when all they want is to be able to live to see their retirement days. How many people out there really give them even a LITTLE leeway when you are passing them on the road? Be Honest now.

The Post Office is losing money due to the fact that more and more people are using the internet to pay their bills. They are closing Post Offices and consolidating mailboxes. So, pay your bills with a stamp instead of the internet. It's all up to you.

If you're going to use condominium-type mail boxes, place them only on the main thoroughfares like Saxon, sections of Courtland, Howland, Providence and their like.

As for the postal rate increases... if you want people to utilize regular mail... raise the costs of sending commercial junk mail, not personal mail stamps or magazines. Candidly... I'm sure the carriers wouldn't mind seeing FAR less flyers, circulars and limited "special offers"... how 'special' can it be if you're offering it to every lifeform with an address and a wallet?

I was advised by the main Deltona post office that the big boxes would be going up on the main traffic roads (ie Fort Smith, Doyle, etc). We unfortunately have to have a small box right now until the big boxes arrive. It is an issue in the fact that kids like to hit them with bats and for us cause an issue between mail service and garbage service on Fridays. This issue is the fact that the mailboxes as per the Post Office require a 30 foot clear ingress and egress area which on garbage day isn't possible with garbage cans involved. We live off Doyle Road but as it's considered rural our box has to be on Doyle Road and we have to put our garbage cans out there as well. I can't wait to get the big box which will be locked and less likely to get damaged.

if you have probl;ems with bored kids smashing your box , do like we did when it was a problem , get a cheap box , fill it with concrete and boom the shatter their arms when they hit it

Deltona lost it's curbside mailboxes in a majority of the City years ago. Now, if they'll replace the rusted, dilapidated community mailbox by my house with a new one that isn't barely standing on one support, that would be great.

What they also need to consider, but it'll cost more money, is making the community mailboxes safer to get to. The area infront of every mailbox I have seen is torn up from cars trying to pull off the main roads just to get the mail. Would it be too much to put in a small cement pad for people to pull up on, or maybe a small cement "driveway" round about for people to pull in and then pull out without being pummelled by other drivers? The City has plenty of easement in their posession to do this. I know this sounds like a lot to ask, but there is no reason why people need to take their life in their hands just to get their mail!

What a buch of half-azzes. They pass a ordinace and don't bother to get all the facts about where the USPS is going to locate them and have to go and rescind the ordinance, incompetence once again from the shrunken heads at city hall. They wanted the main roads to look godd, venture off of them but be prepared to see fugly homes and roads that are a mess. Hell they have mail bosex tied with string and hanging off the posts but that's OK, it fits the city's look of low class.
More pap served up to citizens and dressed up to look like they are actually doing something for the city.
