Disgusted Local

I have dined at the Peddler many times over the years. We have even celebrated many anniv & special occasions with them. However, over the last few years I have noticed a decline in not only the food but the service as well. In my years of dining there I have become friends with several of the staff as the place rarely seemed to have turnover. Another thing that has changed lately, lots of new faces. I am still not sure if it is lack of proper training or just lack of customer service care, but these new faces are also falling short. The quality of the food is that of which you could receive at Shoney's (on a good day) & the prices, well, they are FAR from where they should be. If a am willing to pay upwards of $35 for a filet, I expect top notch service & food quality, not something from Food City meat dept.
Recently I had thought I may give them another try, since it had been quite a while since my last visit & my parents anniv was upcoming, after all, this place held very special memories for she and dad. I made a call to the lady that I had always worked with at the main office, only to find out that she was no longer with the company. Saddened and wondering where she went, I contacted another friend that I knew from my years of dining with the Peddler. I was informed that this person was no longer with the company due to lack of numbers on groups wishing to dine with the resturaunt. I am deeply disgusted by this news. In this economy, you are serving poor quality food, served by mediocre staff (at best) & charging outrageous prices--and you let staff members that have served you well over the years go 'because numbers are down'???
I would suggest to the owner and management of this steakhouse to consider for one moment that maybe customers (and recommendations by others) are down because YOUR STAFF AND FOOD ARE HORRIBLE. YOUR PRICES ARE RIDICULOUS. Needless to say, this loyal customer of over a decade will NOT be returning or recommending the Peddler Steakhouse.

Yes, it is unfortunate for the company especially, because there are many other choices in the area with far better good and prices.

I quit going there a while back. The service, once the best part of dining there, was dreadful. They weren't even busy and the food came out cold, plus it was poorly prepared. Given the cost it is not worth a trip.

We live here in Sevier Co and our favorite place for steak hands down is Longhorn Steakhouse. We used to also dine at Peddler but the price has continually gone up and the quality down. Longhorn is much better and much more easy on the pocket book. Filet there is great!

very disappointing. so many places once were great dining experiences in the area, now not so much. chain steakhouses are competing and doing a much better job. i agree with county local.

I have never been in this area for vacation b/f & my family & I ate at the peddler on Monday & we got in very quickly.. Our waiter/ waitress was great!!! We had never seen any steak house that would cut your food for you & they asked my daughter if she needed it cut & we were amazed !!!! Very polite workers, great service & fabulous food, expensive but worth every bite!!! I have to say it was the best steak & sweet potato casserole I have had & our family eats at steakhouses a lot !!! If we ever return back to this area & we will definitely be going again... I'm sure some places will have employees come & go & sometimes they will have moments of having a hard time w/ training to get perfection... & there is no place that is perfect but apparently the management there is doing a good job in our book!!!! Keep up the good work The Peddler !!! It was amazing!!!!

I am a frequent visitor from over the mountain in Cherokee. I have dined at the peddler for decades first with my grandfather in the early 80's and mist recently with my new husband as we spent our honeymoon thier. I can 100% agree that Peddler is expensive, but worth it! The price is not my concern as its not just any other place but built off tradition. I too noticed the new faces and asked my waitress why thier were so many new ones she said they did a mass hire for the first time in 17 years and that a lot of the faces are 2nd generation employees children, nieces, nephews family of the existing employees. I was shocked this place really knows how to commit to it's employees and customers I'll be back in december for sure!
