Two months ago, Charles Dean Huffstickler got the legal ammunition he needed to continue operating a private shooting range in his backyard.

I really hate it when outsiders move into an area and try to force the locals to conform to their (noobs) beliefs and lifestyles. The sheeple from the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia are doing this to AZ, NV, WA and even here in TX. I hear that the same is happening in the NE with escapees from the People's Republic of Taxachusetts fleeing to Rural NY, VT and NH taking their Socialist ways with them. They remind me of gangrene spreading through-out a body, killing the parts it travels through until the whole organism dies.

I saw this in New Jersey when buyers of McMansions next to hog farms tried to run them off because of the smell. Some really nice folks with horse facilities were targeted too.

Didn't these people study the landscape before buying? It's called 'due diligence'. If you move near a gun range, hog farm or Hell's Angels club, you shouldn't complain about the neighbors that were there before you if they are already operating within the law.

This is an interesting topic.

Charles Dean Huffstickler IS grandfathered in. Grandfathering is an important rule.

Myself, I hate unneccessary noise. I hate loud vehicles and loud unrelenting dog barking. We all make some noise. I have many pieces of lawn equipment that produce loud noise.

Even if Charles Dean Huffstickler is endangering kids, he still has a right to continue shooting. If any kid gets hurt (I doubt they will) I would blame their parents (endangerment).

The law for 'child endangerment' needs to be applied much more than it is. It has the potential to be over-applied too. Allowing kids to be alone in the public is very risky for the kids. A few of them get kidnapped, molested, and then murdered. The shooting at the Huffstickler home is the least threat to the safety of kids.

When I shoot my .22LR rifle I can barely hear it. It's such a wimpy bullet when fired from a rifle (buy the .22LR CCI Stinger). I would hope that Chuck is only using the .22 (short round).

The antis love to use kids' safety to convince (con or hustle) people to restrict our freedoms. But what kind of parent would allow their kid to wander alone in the community and get near a shooting range ?

Wayne Fleming has posted a large sign on his property (opposing the gunfire). I'm happy for him and his right to free speech. Some communities prohibit posting signs on front yards. What makes him believe that sign is not an "eyesore". Many freedom-hating liberals are always using that (eyesore) as an excuse to FORCE neighbors to conform.

Looks like he has one hell of a good spot to shoot. Two sides with no close neighbors, embankment plus a hill behind it. Only thing missing is an enclosure for the winter months.

What is it with people and their control issues these days? If I were the judge I'd send the guy with the sign to psychological counseling to remind him he doesn't have control over anything but himself and his property. If he dislikes gunfire so bad, why did he move there? I've seen very old horse and cow ranches shut down because some self righteous douchebags from the city move out here because of what they saw on TV or something and didn't realize the smell, the noise, etc.... How is that fair? Why do these people get to control others? Its time they start being arrested and fined for harassment!

Some of these broads even got horse trails paved over because they didn't like their 4x4 SUVs driving in the bumpy dirt!! WTF!!

“We don’t feel we should have to hire an attorney to do what the law should do,” said Wayne Fleming, 72.“But we can’t seem to get anyone with any authority on our side.”
That's because there are no laws being broken. Unfortunately for you libs and antis, you can't prosecute someone for something they aren't doing.

I agree, and further, old-folks often (very often) need something, anything, to fill their days. Whether it's peering out a window at every passing car or sound, or taking-up a crusade, oldies have this need to feel like they are doing something useful and important. I can't blame them, since I've been retired, I jump to look out when I hear a sound outside too. I kinda feel sorry for the old guy; he would benefit from some help from someone close to him to distract him in some more constructive endeavors like a hobby.

Still, when a man (or woman) stakes his claim in a place and is able to pursue HIS outlet for peaceful enjoyment of his-own property, he should not be bothered by Johny-come-lately neighbors who wake-up one day and object to something that's been going-on for years. And I musty commend the range owner for trying to accommodate his neighbors; this shows a conciliatory mindset that seems not shared by some neighbors. A little noise one or two Saturday afternoons a month seems very reasonable. I've experiences much-worse.

I'm a DIY (do-it-yourselfer). I choose manual tools (most of the time), rather than make more noise. Some jobs require loud machines, so I use that. For some (neccessary) tasks, using a manual tool could cause health problems, especially arthritis. But if I can I use a quieter manual tool.

If my neighbors are noisy, then so am I.

If you do not like loud noises, guns, trucks jacked up,dogs, beer partys etc, you should live in an up scale neighborhood with restrictions! If you cannot afford it then you belong where you are.

Why the qualifier in your statement?

Seems a bit elitist but I will reserve judgment until you reply.

Every American needs a crash course in constitutional law - STAT! Far too many do not have a clue what it says or what it really means.

Unfortunately, I think that the Dept of Ed. would rather have limbs removed than allow teachers to teach students the truth. An informed electorate makes it more difficult for the scammers and flim-flam (wo)men we've seen elected over the last 30-40 years.

The weapon I carry is an equal opportunity security device.

If I perceive a threat to myself it will be aimed to stop that threat regardless of race, sex or religious preference.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Cancer

If you have children at home they'll be really playful today and quite a handful at times. Encourage them to burn off all their energy during the day otherwise it will be a case of tears before bedtime. There could also be a fractious atmosphere between you and a loved one, and this will quickly escalate into a row if you aren't careful.
