This company needs to go! They honestly do not care about their customers and they do not care if their customers know that. If you call about any subject you will never get the same answer twice. I have called 3 times and filled out paperwork to pay for the streetlight in front of my house and it was still shut off this week and now I may be charged a fee to turn it back on even though someone from Unitil told me that I would not have to pay if it did get shut off. At this point I do not believe anything they say.

No one should be surprised, Unitil is a corrupt company that is allowed by its Board of Directors and the state to rob the public. One would think it was a state agency.

"Gantz also said Unitil needs permission from customers to trim trees on thieir property. "
So, why couldn't you ask? Gantz is an irresponsible douche. I hope an untrimmed tree branch falls on him.

Gantz is full of it!

I see the whole situation now, all these talks and meetings as nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Nothing is going to change if Unitil has their way.

The State DPU need to force them out of this state!

"Unitil needs the permission of the owner to cut trees." I have heard this argument over and over again. Funny thing, here in Lunenburg back in 2005, on my fire road we had a component on the pole burst into flames. We called the fire department and Unitil. Unitil came back a week later and cut back trees on my property along with my neighbors. I can never remember any permission given by me or my neighbors--my relatives.
Three years later, the wires are tangled and rubbing against trees; and the trees that were cut seemed to have been topped more than properly pruned.
Everytime I read Mr. Gantz's remarks it is the same words and phrases and arguments. Perhaps Unitil could elinimate his position and simply just pay the outside Boston "spin" company.
Keep in mind rates are decreasing. It reminds you of Circuit City with their high retail pricing who then offers you 30% off during their closing. Perhaps we could get a 40% cut in the transmission rates rather than just the generation rates.
Yes, Unitil's electrical business dropped 0.3% this year, but what is that based on previous years of continued profitbility. Interestingly, investors had a great year with $1.65 per share up from the $1.40 of previous years. Interestingly, large utility companies did not have nearly such great returns over the years.

I have lived at this same location for over 30 years, once in that 30 years has Unitil come to trim the trees along the street a few years ago. They did ask, we told them to cut anything they wanted down, but when they left, there were stil wires going through the trees. They just didn't finish their job. They did not do anymore than they had to do.... Can a home owner go out and cut these trees down with wires all entangled in the limbs... I am not taking that responsibility... Unitil needs to step up to the plate and stop robbing us and start giving their customers quality service.

The trees next to the lines are on town property here.
I do not think the Town of Townsend is going to have a problem with you trimming branches.

The problem is that this company still wants to run like it always has. We want change.. Alot of us are demanding it.
We are beyond the excuse stage. It is time for Unitil to change. You have heard what your customers want. It is time for you to change so maybe you will actually earn a bonus.

Gantz should be criminally charged. In its response to the DPU evidentiary hearing questions, Unitil stated that the problem was not ice - because the wires were strong enough to bear its weight - but trees. Now Gantz says trees were not the problem.

How can he keep getting away with lying to the public and the government?

Is it just me, or does everyone want to scream every time Gantz says ANYTHING?

I am so glad that Sec. Bialecki took the time to hear from the business owners on this matter. He is in a very influential position when it comes to funding for business - as in, if we are really going to get rid of Unitil, we will probably need his help.

The business perspective had been overshadowed by residential horror stories at the DPU hearings, so this was a great opportunity to get that side of the story in a smaller forum. Kudos to you, DiNatale and the NCMCC for hosting this!

Not that there is anything wrong with it mind you, but a little heads up everyone.

"Tiffany" is a professional PR person, known as a "designated blogger."

And "Just Sayin" is a Press Secretary employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He used to run a local political blog.

Just sayin'.....

OMG! I LOVE that one!!!!! Too funny.
Business as usual at Unitil - just keep lying and maybe the customers will start to believe it... don't count on it Gantz.
Also, "Gantz said as part of the assessment Unitil received input from businesses and residents." Hmmm... did they ask any of you or anyone you know for input? I highly DOUBT it.
