Nice to "see" people from UP NORTH commenting here. My folks used to own a house on
Gulliver Lake and I married a guy from Green School in 52. We ate at Old Deerfield now and then. IT doesn't LOOK bad, just a little "seedy and abandoned".

Old Deerfield needs alot work.
Growing up in Manistique and now spending my summers on Gulliver Lake it great to hear that Old Deerfield memories have a chance to be added to.
Our children share wonderful memories of the "sticky" buns served in the resturant. The highlight of one of their summers was taking their Grandma M to breakfast going over on our poontoon.

I now live on Gulliver Lake and would not want to live any where else...we are all hoping to get the Fischer's back in there at O.D. just as much as everyone else...the last owners left lots of debt all over the place in Gulliver and else where, and it wil be up to the Fischer's to get that settled...keep them in your prayers...and, yes, I too have great memories of going there...my father-in-law used to work there many moons ago and tells great stories from the 40's and 50's...about O.D....

Please tell me it is true that Old Deerfield will be opening again. My parents went there before WWII on gravel roads. We went many years as a family; my husband and I went for one week of our honeymoon (when the Calverts still owned it.)Our grown children have many fond memories as well.

I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful comment's that they have made concerning our beloved Old Deerfield Resort....we sold the Resort and Historic Inn three years ago because of health reasons....the people from Saginaw, MI, who wanted to purchase the resort, only made 6 payments in three years.....a terrible mess was left for us and we battled in the courts for two years. Now it is the spring of 2008 and we must start the task of finding out what damage was done to the water system, and everything else. Our plans are to re-open the twenty cottages around mid June, 2008 for the summer season....depending on what surprised we find!
I have started taking reservation for July and August and really appreciate all the wonderful guests that have visited or stayed at Old Deerfield over the past 75 years. We are not sure if the Historic Inn will be open yet....we are still in the process of obtaining our Liquor License back! We will only be able to do limited business, as my family members have very serious health issues! We may be reached at 1906W County Road 432 Gulliver, MI 49840.....ask for Marilyn or leave a phone message. I'm continuing to work at the Seul Choix Pointe Lighthouse, here in Gulliver and invite everyone to stop in and say hi at the Resort and Lighthouse! I miss you all and have really appreciated all the friends we have made in the past 26 years....most have become like family to us!
Thanks for your support! Love, Marilyn

Marilyn. I so hope you are able to reopen the restaurant. We enjoyed many wonderful evenings there. We summer on the shore in nearby Manistique and really miss having a nice place close to home.
We drove by this afternoon and saw the grass was cut and there were cars at the cabins. It was so nice to see it almost back to normal.
Our fingers are crossed for the restaurant reopening.

Just to let everyone know... we stayed at Old Deerfield in August. They have done much work to get it ready again. I hope everyone who has stayed there in the psst will get in touch with Marilyn to reserve a cabin for next year. They have been through so much and so deserve the chance to see it filled with the kind of people who loved it in the past.

Daily Horoscope for December 16

Cancer

Today's New Moon in your sixth house reminds you not to neglect your health or general well-being. It's the ideal time to arrange a check-up with your doctor or dentist, or to follow up a medical query. Cancerians love yummy food, and the festive season is hardly the best time to start a diet, but you still might want to monitor your calorie intake.
