Red Emmerson has said TIME AND TIME AGAIN... the Arcata mill would be the last one he would close since it was the first (Grandpa's mill) I will also say that Red is a man of his word! Why would he dump $70 Million into a project that would cause community distress and other problems in Arcata , not to mention the loss of a family heirloom?

SPI also has a track record of BULLDOZING mills that it has bought DO THE MATH!

RED if you are out there... inquiring minds want to know... or better yet... why dont the TS reporters ask these questions... its all well known information

One of Arcata's last major industries will now leave behind approximately 30 some restaurants & about 10 roming Taco trucks.

Sacchi's Chevy-Buick, gone.
Isackson Motors Ford-Merc, gone.
Yakima products, gone.

Large industries, chain stores & big box stores are not allowed but Arcata's now looking for a 1/2% local sales tax increase.

Arcata Redwood, Green Diamond, Simpson Timber__keep an close eye on who is running for **supervisor in June's election ballot!
**One claims to be some sort of "Environmental Consultant?"
He also was the brainstorm behind purchasing some of SPI holdings east of Sunny Brae a very short time ago.
Paul Pitino should be another concern. Look at his Arcata's city council track record.

Arcata in the near future will make a great National Park and and you'll never go hungry having a large variety of places to eat!

ILL TELL YOU WHAT I THINK WILL HAPPEN IF SPI GETS PALCO.
THEY WILL CONTROL ALL OF THE FIR MARKET.
HARWOOD LUMBER BEING DOWN, LETS ALL THE FIR FLOW TO EUREKA AND ARCATA FROM DOWN SOUTH.
SPI CONTROLS THE OLD GUYUP DOCK FOR RECIEVING LOGS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
SO I WOULD THINK THAT SCHMIDBAUER WILL BE FIGHTING SPI FOR FIR LOGS,SINCE THE NEW SCOTIA MILL CUTS SMALL LOGS.
AND THEN SIMPSON AND MENDICINO REDWOOD NOW HAVE GOT SPI CUTTING REWOOD!
SO TELL ME , DO YOU THINK THIS IS GOOD?
THERE GOING TO HAVE A MONOPOLY ON THE TIMBER LAND AND LUMBER MARKET!

Some of you folks need to do some homework. First MendoRW doesn't mill, they just sell logs, so whether SPI gets the mill and runs it is independent of the land's final ownership change.

Schmidbauer is in not much different situation with logs after SPI gets the Palco mill (if it does) than he was before. His Weaverville mill competes with SPI now.

Thirdly, what makes you think the trend to fewer and fewer large ownerships is just a recent trend? Only a big company can put up with the monkey-motion required to be in the forestry business in the PRK.
