Something has to be done about Vietnam Vet highway. Every day there is an accident on this road. My prayers go out to the innocent young man's family and friends. I hope the police get to the real cause of this terrible tragedy.

This is a prime example of what so many smokers are talking about. The tax and tax and tax cigerates and never tax beer it's always about the cigerates. Take a poll how many people are injuried or even killed because of alcohol. Now take a poll how many people are injuried or killed do to the use of second hand smoke. I don't have the number but would be willing to bet more die due to alcohol then second hand smoke. Raise the taxes so that alcohol is took expensive to buy like cigs. and see what happen. It is most always the drunk driver that walks that is a crying same, we worry about things that we don't need to and close our eyes to the issues at hand. When it is going to stop when is the government going to get involved not just your local authorities. Alcoholism is also a sickness and needs to be addressed, wouldn't you say.

I agree that something is going to have to be done about Vietnam Veterans Parkway. This is a state roadway, therefore, the State of Tennessee is going to have to do something about this stretch of roadway. There have been 3 fatalities on that roadway in one year, all in the New Shackle Island Road area. The state should erect a concrete divider wall in the median along the entire stretch of highway.

Also, there are way too many people texting these days and not paying attention to their driving. I see it many times every day I drive in and around Nashville. Drivers need to wake up and drive, not text....it's too dangerous.

You are trying to talk bout this and you have not even thought bout what you are saying this is sad not political. You need to just stop talking you sound like a idiot on here trying to make people vote when a middle age man just passed away this is not the time for that kind of talk. How do you think that makes his family feel when you are saying that?

Yes... the 19 yr old girl, Kim , was leaving home after only recieving a couple of hours of sleep after being out all night drinking. She hit Michael head on and killed him on impact. Michael was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was on his way to work. God bless him. He was loved by many!
I have been a family friend for years. He will be missed by many. This is very hard for Michael's family.

What I was trying to get across is not political! Alcohol and automobiles are a deadly combination. I feel every bit sorry for the death of the young man and also for the family of the young lady that was drinking and driving. It is a crying shame that so many lives are lost every day due to the use of alcohol and something needs to be done about it. People just don't think clearly when under the influence until it's too late. I personally am not a drinker I have no use for it in my life. I have seen first hand how it affects people lives this is another prime example of the result of people not using their head they drink and think, "I feel fine I can drive home no problem, and so many times they don't make it home or cause an innocent persons life to end way too soon". It just isn't fair and something needs to be done to stop this type of irresponsbility to continue. A slap on the wrist,/8 hours in jail, a silly license plate on their car, suspended drivers license, picking up trash on the highway, whatever the punishment in my eyes is not enough. They didn't care before and they won't care the next time. They people that suffer are the families of the ones that loose. It just isn't fair and need to be done. I also agree with the fact the Vietnam Vet Blvd needs to be addressed there is nothing keeping the traffic from crossing over into on coming traffic something need to be put into place. People get out there and think they are at Talladega or Daytona it's crazy the way people drive out there. I am surprised there hasn't been more accidents. It is almost as bad as the ridge going to Portland.
He will be missed

I have not known Michael long but he was a very loving, considerate, beautiful person. He was always there with a smile and grateful for what he had. I pray for him and his family at this time.

Instead of fixing the road how about learning to drive better.

Roads like cars don't cause accidents, people do.

And so does driving drunk. The girl is at fault here. I don't think learning how to drive nor fixing Vet's would help in this situation. You shouldn't drive drunk. Period. Look what happens and what has happened in the past w/ drivers and ETOH. We have lost a very kind and loving family member due to this. Don't argue over what need's to be done to the roads or who needs to learn how to drive.

My condolences go out to Mr. Mcree's family ....My question is where did the 19 year old get the alcohol from? I think that who ever supplied her with the alcohol should be held responsible just as much as her......this is truly sad .........

Ahhh, okay, now we understand you. Yes you're right, the DUI laws and vehicular homicide punishments need to be changed drastically. You're right that the penalties so far do nothing to deter them from doing it again.

As for the tax on alcohol, I can't tell you the last time I ordered a drink. Its as expensive as going to the movies and I haven't done either in years--I cant afford it now let alone if they tax it higher.
