Mr Copper. Apology accepted. The only thing that needs to be set straight between us is that the relative that was killed was not the one the police was pursuing. My relative was one of the innocent victims in the pickup. I really don't feel that having a dispute with you or anyone else will do any good now. Lets just agree to disagree and continue with our appointed place in life. I would also say to you to please use good judgement and take the safest way that you can. You implied that you might not be able to stand me. Actually, we could find mutual respect if we really knew each other. Regards.
ok, i decided to check into this and although i never pass judgement on other law enforcement until all the facts are known, i will say maybe things could've been handled differantly BUT it's easy to say that when things are said and done. i do sympathize with your loss, loss of innocent lives are always the hardest to accept .

Everyone needs to realize one thing that the two kids HAD SOMETHING TO HIDE so face up to it and stop blaming everyone, the only thing I agree with is they should have stop the chase because 69 and MM is way to dangerous to be going that fast I'm from Missouri and I have drove them roads and they are DANGEROUS! I have lost a very special person in my family, Clark was a very good person and a Cousin, my family gives out our thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace. WE LOVE YOU CLARK!

First of all, I am very sorry about the two innocent persons that died in this tragic accident. My prayers and thought go out to their families.

The two suspects that ran were not good people. According to my brother-in-law who is involved with this investigation, they would classify them as career criminals with multiple arrests and lengthy criminal records. What is not being told is that these two were under investigation and surveillance by a federal law enforcement agency that responded to the scene of the accident and they had stolen license plates on the vehicle, which may also be stolen.

The citizens that called 911 are far from innocent and lots of drug related activity at that residence.

The police officer involved is having a rough time dealing with this and it truly has a major impact on all of the kearney officers.

Puruits are a necessary evil and this time two innocent people and two suspects had to die in the process. Had the suspects just stopped, this would be another day on the job.

well, say you rob 7-11 . then take off in a car and the police are behind you. they know who you are so it's ok to say "hey, let her go and we'll catch up later?" wrong, you committed a crime, charges are pending and you're gonna pay for what you've done. too much good ol' boy attitude has gotten the smaller departments in trouble as it is. one thing to keep in mind, after you robbed 7-11 think you will go for a week, 2 weeks or a month andn not soend any of the money you stole? or areyou gonna smoke it up on crack?....get the point...it's crucial to nab the perp as fast as you can, recover the items stolen, or put an end to any further violence.

you said it yourself, they gre up a bad apple, how is it the cops fault?

I totally believe that the officer should of relized that the situation could lead to accidents. True the kids should of stopped. The point is everyone was at blame here. The kids can not say that they were wrong. The cop can, but of course the Mayor is already backing him up and he is still working. NICE!!!!!!! system! I feel horrible for the 2 that had nothing to do with it, and now can't voice a opion. I do hope that their family will.

Having a source close to this investigation, the officer is not returning to work yet. He is having major problems dealing with this tragedy. Who wouldn't?

The suspects that fled from the police are to blame. They failed to stop at a stop sign striking the truck, killing the occupants.

The police officer chose to pursue based on his constant evaluation of a rapidly unfolding situation.

Nobody wanted it to end like this. Had the two suspects simply pulled over for the officer this would have never received a moments attention.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the victims, as well the officers involved.

When will the police ever learn. Most all car chases end up in the very least, an accident. If these boys had committed a felony crime then maybe, and I mean maybe, the chase could have been in order. The problem is that the police, especially small town police, think they just have to have some excitement in their underpaid ho hum job. They want to be heros. I wonder if this cop feels like a hero this morning. Of course, in view of the public, he will be very sorry for the loss of life but the Kearney police are already defending his actions. Today he is still working and looking for the next jay-walking criminal that passes through his city. He more than likely feels no remorse at all. His ticket book and his apprehension of the suspects did no good but he got his violators. What a great service he did for the city of Kearney and the rest of the country. He should be removed from any chance of ever holding a police job anywhere. If he could have gotten close enough would he have shot them? The laws and the forgiveness of our leaders gives him the right to do what he wants. Right or wrong, he is the law. How safe do you feel with this type of "protection" out there? This country needs to totaly re-evaluate their chase policy. My sorrow goes out to each and every family member of all of these people involved in this so called accident. The better term would be murder. I doubt that this will ever reach print but it should and all people should make their voices heard. Yesterday this cop was a terrorist. Our soldiers are fighting and dying to eliminate them is Iraq.
Ok, so let's not have police at all if you're so against what they do, then when it is your loved one that is in trouble, or you in danger and your life is on the line what will you do. If it takes even 20 seconds longer than you THINK it should for police to show up you'll be mad because they're not doing their job...where were they when YOU wanted them. And for the record it's not the fault of the police that those people died, it's the fault of the people that ran...why don't you blame them? Police have a job to do, and the law to uphold, the officer that was involved in the chase was doing his job...sorry you don't like it, but get over it. And maybe for once thank him for doing his job...protecting you and your property, freedoms, family...

Geeze Varn,
I'm glad you're in Texas and not Missouri. I am against high speed chases. Too many innocent people's lives have been taken. I realize small town police are lacking in excitement but to continue a pursuit at 80-100 miles/hr on the roads that were being driven was just asking for a tragedy. Afterall, this officer should have better judgement than to continue in a pursuit such as this. I find it hard to believe that the family and friends of the two victims in the pickup truck are going to (as you put it) get over it very soon.

The police chase was a realy bad call for everyone.
The officer should of let dispatch know that a
car just left the area at a high rate of speed. The first officer should of stayed at the address and made sure the area was secure and no one was shoot or killed.{The persons that the call went out on were still inside the address and this car was just passing through} Some one could of been hurt or killed from the first call while police were out chasing this car.Every officer knows you cant drive fast on one lane roads with hills and winds. The driver had no place to go with all the small town police departments in the area and you still have the state and county s.o. with your radio. This officer should be out of his job. Thank god no one at the home that was nt secure went on a shoting path and more persons came up dead. The mayor of Kearney should just keep his mouth closed and feel upset for all the lives lost that day. This is a small town, The officer could of asked who was in the car and stayed at the address. Some one may of needed fire/ambulace.(Back when I was cheif the ambulance came out of the Holt Fire Dept. that was ten miles up the road on hwy 35. How about the first call.Did police ever check the welfair of the persons in the fight at started all this.

So Clarks funeral was today. All that keeps going though my mind is---the cop was obviously the only one in this situation with half a brain. The idiots he was chasing were not stopping--apparently--the one with half a brain (the cop) should of stopped-- I am SURE he knew who those kids were--small town politics. I am also sure the cop is having a horrible time right now--unfortunately--people get caught up in the moment--and I am also sure--if he could change a few things--he would. Unfortunately-He was not using good judgement--and Im betting he regrets that move right now. But- we are all human. Unfortunately we all do things we had wished we hadnt...only this time it took two completely innocent loved lives- My only hope is now that everything is done--Clark and Katheryn are gone.. I hope this is a lesson ALL the caught up in the momment cops can look at. Then again--it has happened many many times--and they unfortunately will not be the last two to die in such a predictable, almost avoidable tragedy.

Bottom Line of this is: Where was probable cause? all the Officer saw was vehcle leaving the residence. and a woman standing out side waving her arms around. Did he stop to ask why? No he gave chase not knowing why. he officer "made a asumption" with out no fact's. understand there was a 911 call, and again there was a hangup.no one called back, and the woman that called 911 should of called back to the police station and told them the officer was chasing the wrong vehicle!

IF THE PERSON in question is a relative of yours and you've been in law enforcement before then i'd assume he would have had more respect for the law than to run when he should've stopped.
i do have respect for the dead, and although these 2 people made a wrong choice and paid for it with their lives i do sympathize with the families and do not wish this loss on anyone.
i am sorry for your loss, the fact you served your country i have appreciation for but the bottom line is they made a choice and paid dearly. the cop is not wrong for doing his job. yes some of my comments were uncalled for and for that i apoligyse but i have my opinion and i stated it, right or wrong...... until they invent a better way for pursuits to run their course and law enforcement to do their jobs, this kind of stuff will happen and it's the people that sit around and pass judgement that i can't stand, if that includes you, then so be it.

I was a teenager living in smithville and we use to run to kearney to see friends. this was around 1985 when officer jeff boldwin was a cop and he would race around town chasing us for fun and games. he once told me and my friends about a kearney cop who shot and killed a cow while they were working as police officers. the cops still look the same and are out of shape still. i think the kids may of just been playing around with no bad things in mind. the out come was realy bad. jeff the cop would even hang out at our parties and talk to our girlfriends when they were driving around kearney. one nite the cops raced a white under cover grand mercy with a new cream coloer chevy they just got on the highway from the truck stop.it was nt all the cops that i know of. i only knew a few of them and they all were wild. how about the cops who robbed the bank with his friends and chased them and shot himself in the arm and the head police chief who was on americas most wanted some the same area. ware do you get your cops.

Thank you
Kathy. I don't know how to say how sorry I am for your loss. Your courage and willingness to try and console your grandson during your own time of grief has to be so difficult. Life is so fragile and only in times like this do we realize how truly fragile it is. I am a distant relative to Clark. My mind is still spinning from the course of events that brought this tragic ending. My wife and I visited both Diane and Clark's graves today. We are so sad for everyone. May God bless you with the strength you will need to heal. Your heart will never heal but maybe through the beauty of your daughters memories you can continue on with you and your Grandsons life. He will need you so badly. Maybe you can support each other. God bless.
