I do not understand the ignorance that comes with being a CNA, a job which only requires a 8 week certificate which is currently available to High school students not just graduates, Some CNA's love their jobs yes while other certified nurses aids may be training to be a nurse. Undoubtedly paying $8.25(States Minimum wage) makes any employee feel unappreciated. This is still a skilled position though not highly some local Nursing Homes pay far more up to $12 an hour starting out. Galesburg Terrace is telling their employees they would pay them less but the law will not allow them to. Okay, the mold though is a Maintenance issue and has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NURSING STAFF. This is the ADMINISTRATION AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT ISSUES. As for all of the bad mouthing by former employees you are just that and allowed that right whatever your opinion is I have a relative in Galesburg terrace and think it is by far not the worst I have ever been in, Not the best either they really need to pay their direct care staff more since they are the ones who can make the difference between a resident being happy or indifferent. They seem to be handling the matter well and will probably not file and appeal, hopefully this will wake up the maintenance personal who are responsible for all building related issues, Nursing and maintenance alike when they may be underpaid will cut corners this in just human nature. Who ever is badmouthing this D.O.N. who I do not know personally, but anyone deserves a Second chance, Drugs or not, this society Condemns drug use along racial lines the ONLY reason Drugs are Illegal are along racial lines. Cocaine=Blacks, Marijuana=Mexican, Heroin=Asians, Alcohol was once illegal but the White people got unruly so now it is just controlled, poorly I might add. If someone had paid their dues to society through arrest they have done just that. Do not take away their whole life based on any one incident, though I would like a mandatory weekly drug test for such an offender because if your gonna stick me with a flu shot I hope you just did not shoot your self up with some Junk with the same needle, Crack heads also lack the judgment required to Nurse, just think about that one. So for all of you trailer trash Nurses and Aids Keep your uneducated Trash talking between your friends and your personal text messaging to each other. Take that Crap back to where it belongs to the trash, and quit posting online where people with sense can read it, just because you know how to turn on a computer does not make you smarter or better than anyone else. If Some of you would just go do a Ben Franklin and fly a Kite in a electrical storm, the world would be a better place

Well, were should i begin. Have any of you had your own houses checked for mold recently? This area can get very humid in the summertime and mold thrives in these conditions. Should you have your children taken away for having mold in your house and be given a hefty fine by the state of Illinois if you do? The nursing home is taking all of the steps it can to take care of this problem that the state of Illinois has told them to. They cannot anticipate every single problem that comes up but they can and do correct the problems as they come at them
You talk so badly about this place but it takes in people that have NO money and gives them a home. And the state is the one that mandates how many cna's and nurses per resident, not the facility; and the states standards have always been lacking. Plus, this facility gives people that other places wouldn't look twice at a chance. And, i'm not talking about felons. I am talking about people that had a run of bad luck that other facilities wouldn't take a chance on.
I have gotten every TB test that should be required of me and even gotten the hepatitis vaccination at no cost to myself. The DON herself did all but hunt me down to get this done.
How about instead of bashing this and every nursing home that has problems you go to the state congressmen and women or even the president and tell them to pay medicare payments on time so facilities aren't left to struggle on how to make ends meet and how to take care of residents. What all of you naysayers also forgot to mention was that during the last survey the federal surveyors were there. There are a lot of tags that we got that many other facilities would have had the federal surveyors been with them. Last year there were very few tags to this facility and all of a sudden in one year it increased that much. Anyone knows that when federal is there they nitpick over everything and make people nervous and makes them make silly mistakes they wouldn't have ordinarily made
Why don't you FORMER employees just leave it alone. Let it go and move on.

That is right lets go and strip the dry wall, tile, flooring and wall paper off of every Nursing home in the state then we are coming to your house to do the same and if on spore has been allowed to start to grow in any one of the residences we are condemning you home at your own expense and you shall build a new one and we will do the same every fall for the rest of your existence. This would be the most expensive and Retarded law in the state but pat Quinn would sign it. How the hell do you see this crap till someone gets pissed and punches a hole in the wall I wonder. I guess all the other Nursing homes in town just have enough sense to do the same Inspection as the state would do before they get there with enough time to take care of the problem in advance? From the experience I have with all Long Time Care Facilities no the only time anything is done properly is when they know of an inspection is coming very soon. The stupid thing is that Illinois Schedule these things well in advance with a long period of notice. I want to start a traveling Inspecting team for a surprise visit with a home at least once a month, sometime weekly, and daily just to mess with them, that would keep them on their toes and provide a nice stress level at which high job performance will be achieved and a few heart attacks I am sure.

The statements I made were correct, and I was not fired. I am not a bitter former employer, I left because I didn't like how things were done, not because I made mistakes and I would NEVER abuse a resident.

The ignorance that comes with being a CNA?? Are you kidding? What is the ignorance that comes with being a person who would go on a public forum and bad mouth a person's profession? I am 19 yrs. old, I was a straight A honor student, and I became a CNA when I graduated high school because I was unsure if I wanted to be a nurse or not. I do my job very well and work with a lot of other CNAs who also do a great job. I am not ignorant by any means! I do not nor have I ever worked for this nursing home but you really need to think before you write things like this about people.

Do any one of you think that some of these residents don't have family's?We are their family's.What about the one's that die and no-one shows up for there funeral except the staff members..Everyone needs to STOP the bad mouthing of GALESBURG TERRACE..Ever nursing home has it's faults, just because it looks great on the outside doesn't mean its a great place..We love our resident's!! Where's the news cast to talk to the residents and staff that love it here? You only see one side of the story and what about the staff members that have been there a long time...They have no symtoms of getting sick from mold..We all need to think about the residents, the problem has been fixed.WE LOVE GALESBURG TERRACE AND ALL OUR RESIDENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS...

Well i currently work for this place and not ashamed to admit that I do.. The staff at this place DO CARE for their residents. Have any of you that have been trying to get this place closed thought about where these people are going to go? They have us and that is it we love and care for them as if they were our own family.. And just for the record the issues are being resolved and as a home owner I to have had to have my home cleaned this year for mold issues and i have spoken to several home owners and this is a problem everywhere this year not just at Galesburg Terrace.. Grow the hell up and leave us alone to love and care for our residents as we are all that some of them have....

The people who are using this post to defend this nursing home are the ones who have either burned their bridge at every other nursing home in the area, or have a criminal back ground and can't get hired anywhere else. You know as CNA's working in this facility these residents DO NOT get cared for. They don't get changed every two hours. They don't get their scheduled baths. Their finger nails and toe nails never get attention. They wear the same clothes all day no matter if they are covered in spilled food. You never have supplies, even the basic ones like gloves and depends. You know that you would never treat your family member the way you treat these people. I could go on and on, but what is the point. Every post that I read on here is nothing but propaganda, trying to defend the employer that thinks so little of you to pay you minimum wage. I just honestly hope that someday when it comes your turn to be elderly and placed in a nursing home, you get stuck in a place just like this one. With people just like yourselves taking care of you.
Well I currently work there as an RN and I have not burned my bridges elsewhere as a matter of fact i work at another nursing home that is closer to where I live I WORK THERE BECAUSE I CHOOSE TO WORK THERE NOT BECAUSE I HAVE TO.... And for the nurse that started all this shit grow the hell up we are glad your gone now we dont have to hear about what bad kids you have... GOODBYE and GOOD RIDENCE
