Tragic end to what may have been a fun night. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased.

OVI/DUI is a charge of stupidity and irresponsibility, without a doubt. This article only mentions "Alcohol is thought to have been a contributing factor in the crash", Don't jump to conclusions of guilt before the evidence is presented. Remember, we are all "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY". Anyone in any accident can be charged with OVI, especially with a fatality involved. But, if it walks, talks and quacks like a duck......

Every person in this wreck was old enough to know better than to drive after they were drinking; they were old enough to have kids to lecture on the subject! Embarrasing!

I wonder which awesome Defense Attorney is going to represent the suspect and get him off the hook on some "medical" condition or technicality?...

well folks...thats what happens when you get in the car with a drunk (including if that drunk is you) and dont wear your seatbelt. it sucks when lessons must be learned the hard way but a 41 yr old should have known better. i can hear the posts now though...."ain't nobody gonna tell ME that i have to wear a seatbelt!" and "if i want to risk my life, it's none of the state's business!" then don't sue.

ummm...just a guess but i'd say cuz the other states aren't smart enough to come up with something original?? does it REALLY MATTER what they are called as long as everyone knows what they mean?? i wish my life were so great that i had nothing more important to worry about!!

i hope you are kidding. but since most people on here can count the number of their brain cells on one hand, it means Operating a Vehicle under the Influence of alcohol or drugs.

OVI=Operating vehicle Impaired. This can include a medical condition, or something just as dangerous-LACK OF SLEEP! I know! I work 3rd shift weekends, 12 hours. I get up Sunday at 4p.m., go put in 12, go home. If friends want rides for errands and I stay up, by 3p.m. I'm nodding off-NOT SAFE! So I turn the wheel over to someone whom hasn't worked all night. DUI=Driving under influence! This can be alcohol or drugs or medicines! Just as dangerous. Use some common sense when driving under these conditions!!!

No, I'm not short brain cells. Nowhere does OVI suggest to me 'Operating a Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs'...sorry. Now I can buy 'Operating Vehicle Impaired', as a Minnesotan reported.

In Minnesota, it was called DWI.'Driving While Intoxicated.' That made sense...

Also, they had something called 'Dram Insurance', bar owners had to provide (though I never) because they could be held liable if someone they (or their bartender) served left the bar and got into an accident and killed someone...or themselves.

Yes, I owned a bar in MN. I cut a lot of people off and threw them out. I/We even took a lot of people (drunks) home.

Vista 15-I owned a liquor store in Grove City for over 10 years. I too, took many customers that had too much to drink home. Even in a non-bar situation the liquor liability was tremendous. Also, it made good business sense & probably saved a few DUIs. Friends don't let friends drive drunk!!!

No excuse if the person was drunk. We all on here know that is just irresponsible and stupid to do. But before I lock them up and throw away the key I'll wait to hear if they were truly drunk. The article states that "Alcohol is thought to have been a contributing factor in the crash". That leaves room for doubt and that they might not have been drinking in which this could of just been an accident.

"A crash is not an accident...continued use of the word 'accident' implies that these events are outside human influence or control. In reality, they are predictable results of specific actions." -National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of U.S. Dept. of Transportation, Proclamation, Lifesavers Conference, June 8, 1997
