I unforunately live in Michigan for 2 years and heard all about Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick and his crooked dealings. Then I move back home to Columbus and find out that Kilpatrick is Mayor of Columbus but has changed his name to Michael Coleman. Between his lies, illegal activities, and misuse of office I can't fathom how this criminal manages to stay in office. I am a proud democrat who is going to gladly vote against the "Mayor" if he runs for office again even if it is for a republican.

Now that the police and fire chiefs work directly for the mayor with no civil service protection...
What did you expect.....

I have spoken to a lot of Democrats who are voting for anyone against Coleman just like you. I told people that Coleman would do this to the police and firefighters after he got them to campaign for the tax INCREASE. This is the corrupt politics with one party rule. The voters gave them free reign to do whatever they want.

...regarding actual story article - Columbus residents will await the outcome of the planning sessions from both CFD and CPD meetings with the city.

Shortly before the November 3rd election, and when it looked like the income tax increase might not pass, Safety Director Mitchell Brown said in the Dispatch, and I am paraphrasing, "If the tax increase passes, there will be police and fire recruit training classes starting in December of this year, and you have my word on it as Safety Director". Well, Mr. Brown, we have your word on it, the income tax increase passed, now let's have BOTH classes just like you said. Surely your word is good.

The "other shoe" will drop next spring when Coleman will "find" extra money to go ahead with the trollycar plan....
They'll claim it is "necessary" to "save" the Blue Jackets...and take advantage of matching federal dollars....

Why is the Fire and PD departments whining? Did they get layoffs?-NO, did they get furlough days?-NO. So shut up you big babies. I can't believe you have some of the best working contracts and pay in the country and you are still not happy. I will again take my shopping and dining money outside the city.

Huh there is a surprise. People have been saying this for months. Scare the heck outta people by proclaiming safety forces will be impacted without a tax increase. Tax the people after they agree to an increase and then fail to direct the money properly.

First - Police and Fire need a top down evaluation. Trim the fat and if there are still issues to be addressed then deal with that. But don't just throw money at them.

Ya ever call upon CPD for something? After you wait for hours they show up and act like they are doing you a favor.

It's time the police and fire and Coleman stop telling the citizens what they will provide and let the citizens determine what police and fire services should be.

New academy, new heliport, new precinct houses, more specialty vehicles - the list goes on.

Time for Coleman and Mitch Brown to wake up!

The safety forces will never be happy. The only way they will ever be happy is when they are collecting a million dollars a year and never have to work a shift to earn it.

The cops put the squeeze on us for more money and they're still not happy.

How about we require them to live in the city they 'serve', and really give them something to cry about.

Don't complain now. You were duped into supporting Coleman and his tax increase so man up and take it. I can't beleive you actually believed what he told you to gain your support. He's a politician which puts him on the same level as a crooked used car salesman. Maybe next time he comes to you for support you won't be so gullible!

This budget impasse should be resolved in a spirit befitting the Men of Fire and Force.

To the larger Johnson should go the larger share.

Hey Columbus Safety Forces,

How is that support for a income tax increase working for you now? Just face it, you got worked by professionals. Your Christmas morning mentality suckered you into being good boys and girls, and what did you get for your Lemming compliance? You got hosed. Live and learn baby, live and learn.

Breaking news! Columbus has a first. A politician promised one thing and did another. There must be a lie detector machine somewhere that all politicians use to practice their lies.

I don't live in Columbus, so I don't know what the police and firefighter situation is. Whether they deserve raises or additions to their forces is immaterial in one sense. The issue is promising something to get the tax money then doing something else with it - over and over again.

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Scorpio

Self-worship is easy and obvious, today. The real prize is when you turn from the mirror to see that others think just as highly of you. Take in all this love and amazement, and store some away for lean times in the future. Someone may give you an unexpected compliment later in the day, but don't let them know that it caught you off guard. After all, you still have your reputation as an egomaniac to uphold!
