Hello folks. Looks like I am moving to the area in the near future. I am wondering for those of you who may Mountain bike if there are any good areas that are fairly close to GVille to ride.

Conway Robinson park just off 29 going east is the only close place. Pretty flat, a little technical stuff. Watch out for deer ticks though. You DO NOT want to get lyme disease. Deer ticks are small little buggers. You can barely see them sometimes and this year ticks are supposed to be out of control.

Only thing I know of that could be considered decent mountain biking nearby is the Conway Robinson State Park right at the intersection of 29 and University (just north of the 66/29 intersection). There's other better stuff in NOVA but that is the only place I know of right in Gainesville. Good enough if you don't want to spend 1/2 hour to many hours driving so other trails. You can hike back there too. I'm annoyed that I haven't located biking trails in the Shennendoah nearby say Front Royal, anyone know of any sweet mountain climbs without having to drive far down 81 to say lexington and other places hours away?

One note about the state park, shady stuff happens there sometimes (just google it) so don't stop for any strange dudes walking alone back there :). It's been policed so maybe that has all stopped.

And Bull Run Mountain has some decent trails I take the family hiking to, google the site or go down 55 past the new Walmart and take your first right after the railroad tracks. Go over 66 and take your first left and it will dead end to the trail head. no bikes there, just hiking. If you have kids you need to cross the RR tracks to get to the trails and a train comes by every other hour or so, kids love them trains and it's a great spot to see one up close roar by.

Front Royal = Elizibeths Furnace. You can do a search on it and get more info. Its one of the most difficult trails in the general area with miles of single track.
