Tailgating on Hwy &8 between Fulton and Tupelo makes me mad. By the time I get to work every morning I am ready to scream. I am not talking about just myself..I see it happening to other drivers and it still makes me mad. The tail gaters will fly up to the back of another car...slam on their brakes and ride so close that you cannot even see their headlamps in your rear view mirror. They will stay right on someone's bumper. It is stupid, dangerous and should be ticketed by MHP. In fact, I call MHP every time a tail-gator wants to ride on my bumper.

Hit your breaks quick a few times and they back off or go around.Works every time for me.I don't mind letting someone know if they are following me to close.45 hwy to Tupelo from Corinth is the same way.If your not doing 80 you get your doors blown off...lol

You know there is a minimum speed, by law, on the
interstate, of 45 mph? Maybe if you did the speed
limit, you'd have fewer "tail-gators"? I can't
believe you call our VERY busy State Troopers on
something you could cure yourself! What if your
"road rage" took a Trooper away from an IMPORTANT
call? It could cost someone their life, say if he
was distracted from an actual accident? Highway
tattle-tales are worse than tail-gators!!! Everybody hates YOUR type!! Oh, yeah, and dialing
while driving is certainly a hazard! Stick it! trig

I don't call the troopers. Instead, A fav. thing of mine to do, is to slow down to about 45 mph or so. The tailgater gets the point and I get satisfaction. Back off and i'll speed up. Stay on my tail and I won't. Simple.

Hey, southern fireman, I've done the same trick and
it definitely works! Barb

The thing that irritates me the most is the da*n
truckers that wait until you get right up to them to
pull out and pass. And it is usually on a hill, so
it takes them forever to make their pass. I also
hate truckers that don't cover their load on dump
trucks. It really ruins your paint if they're
carrying sand or gravel, not to mention what it
does to poor motorcycle riders! JH

I think you are way off base my friend. WHen I am being tailgated, I am traveling 70 + MPH...in order to NOT be run over. My speed of choice is 65-70. Tattle-tails ? Are you one of the law breakers out there? Law abiding citizens would not have a problem with calling MHP. It was certainly nice to see them out on their " sting operation" on Hwy 78 last week. I hope to see them doing that more. And I certainly think that the dispatchers are educated enough not to call MHP if they are busy with more pressing issues. Tail gating on Hwy 78 is not one isolated issue..it happens from 7:00 -8:30 am and in the 4:00 -5:00 pm range of time every week day. I don't believe I can leave my present job to ride Hwy 78 all day to cure all of this myself. My concern is not only for myself and my family but the other folks that I see this happens to. There is still a Mississippi law for "following too closely".

The only people I see being tailgated on most any
interstate hwy is the idiots that drive in the
"passing or left/fast" lane. If you are one of these morons, you should be tailgated! There are
signs in areas to warn "slower" traffic to stay in
the RIGHTHAND lane or if you can't distinguish the
lane on the passenger's side of YOUR car. Ser Anoyd

In response to seriously annoyed, I agree with
your logic. I had Mr.breaknolaw driving in the left
lane all the way to columbus blocking traffic that
needed/wanted around this jerk. A few more miles of
it I would have pushed him out of the way. JE

A lot of people driving down 78 don't have sense enough to know what fast lane means.....that's why usually I have to pass someone on the slow lane...meaning going around the mini-vans in the fast lane around the slow lane side......then back around to the fast lane side so get your little mini-van over to the slow lane side while listening to "Tiptoe thru the Tulips" by Tiny Tim.....Awwwwww come on now you know you like Tiny Tim Mini-Van Drivers.......

The only folks I know that have tailgater problems on the "Big Highway" are the idiots that are blocking traffic in the left/passing lane! Some states will ticket violators for this! Because it causes congestion and reckless attempts to pass these idiots. I do see people on their cell phones holding up traffic also. If you want to go less than the speed limit, stay out of the way and in the right hand lane, else you cause your own reckless problems!

Anybody interested; The State legislators evidently agree that "Slow-Pokes" should stay to the Right and out of the "Left Passing Lane" on Interstates with dual or more in the same direction lanes. They just passed a law enabling the Troopers to ticket anyone holding up traffic by "Matching" speeds with the vehicles in the right-hand lane. In other words; Stay out of the passing lane,(the left-hand lane), unless you are passing or going faster than the folks in the Right-hand lane! They just posted new signs warning these "Left Lane Bandits" that it is AGAINST the law to block traffic in the "LEFT" OR "PASSING" lane on interstates in Mississippi. One of the signs is just East of the Truck Scales in Fulton, Ms if you don't believe me. Home Boy has spoken.

I think truckers should have to go slower, like in other states. That would keep them out of the passing lane and make things a whole lot safer!
