Having grown up in The Bronx, Tremont and Belmont, during the 30's, I remember it fondly as THE place for stickball, punchball etc...My children have always asked me to bring them there to see where it was that I played these games.....My feeling is that my streets are not safe anymore. If you have an opinion I woul love to hear from you......Thanks

When stores such as Target, Best Buys, Costco, JC Penney, Macy's and other major department stores decide they want to open new branches, they don't go downtown to your Manhattan anymore sweety, they come to The Bronx. Yes that was not a misprint, I repeat, they come to The Bronx. According to statistics Arthur Avenue is one of the safest streets in New York City. Don't believe me? Do your own research and don't dump on the Bronx, my Bronx, like you do in your Manhattan. Next time, before you condemn an area in my borough that you know nothing about... take your time and do some research. Get true facts. And remember... when your not sure of something.... it's best to keep your mouth shut and be considered an idiot than to oepn it and remove all doubt! How dare you! Bronx is very safe. Fact, NYC, all 5 boroughs are the safest in the USA for its' size. There was a saying that anything below Fordham Rd (South) was crappy. In some cases this was true. The Villa was one of the safest places in the City. Even near the Bronx Zoo, thought the area smelled, it was safe. Only thing was getting towed by the NYPD thugs for bogus parking tickets.Also, I often took the 4-Train to 161 YS stop at nights and never was fearful when I lived there. As far as the Grand Concourse, I have spoken with people who were in the Bronx years ago before I lived there, and they said it was once beautiful. Now, it is really an ugly area, end to end. Guiliani got rid of a lot of the creeps, tourist came back. eom

i got more Bozo(the original)clown was in Staten Island. As for bad teeth, everyone in the Bronx had bad teeth except for the ones getting medicaid, welfare. Riverdale( w. 235th st , N. Bronx) was the only good place left in the borough when I left in 94. Don't miss it. Crappy place.

2nd post-- I forgot to mention the Bronx/Yonkers border. There is actually a long street where you are in the Bronx and walk 20 feet and u r n Yonkers. I recall that area being ok, then again, it was 1994. On my days off, I always visited Nyack just about 20 min. drive from NYC-BX. Great area (Rockland).

I lived in Nanuet, Rockland County and Tribeca section of Manhattan. I loved the Pallisades Mall as a kid and the Nanuet Mall.To think I just read a post about Nyack.It's true, beautiful and I loved the 4 years I lived there,,,Tribeca,,well, that's another World.(>)

Yesterday I talked with a man that lived 2 blocks from my apt in the Bronx, back in 85.Yes, the World seems small.I was in Hampton at the town ctr and struck up a conversation at the local Farm Fresh while in line.He mentioned a great diner on his block and even a place in Brookltn way back, called Wo-Hops..we had 1 thing in common, the Bronx is %#&@ and Brooklyn is ok in certain area and Hampton is, well, not much of anything.

I lived in the Bronx (Belmont-Arthur Ave. area) in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. It was an all italian neighborhood. Very, very safe. We didn't lock our doors. In the summer we would sleep on the fire-escapes or the roof. Everyone knew their neighbors, etc. etc. Arthur Ave. was the shopping area for all italian foods. There were feasts on 187th St. for some of the saints days. There was Mt. Carmel Church on 187th Street. It was the most safest place you could live in. When I moved out of the area in 1960 it was still very very safe and all italian area. I moved to Manhattan to be on my own. I loved Manhattan too. It was very safe in Manhattan too.
