Why not? Because you’re helping to make it worse. Here’s what I mean:
On TV a bit ago, I saw NBC interviewing a jobless couple whose house was in foreclosure. On the driveway was their Nissan SUV. I shouted,“Hey, Guys, a couple in Japan are bowing at you in gratitude for their jobs.” Ugh! Jobless Americans driving Japanese cars.....helping put even more Americans out of work! And I see people kidding themselves with US flag decals on their prides of Japan. Hello! No matter the flag, you’re still driving Japanese and hurting our economy. Oh, how I itch to tell them that, but I’m chicken. Instead, I tell myself, THEY JUST DON’T KNOW. The Japanese have been seducing us for years. They give their cars and trucks American-sounding names. And our media gives them billions in free advertising that they’re supposedly better*. And they flood us with seductive ads. So, no wonder many buy the pitch. *But see March ‘09 J.D. Roberts report: For reliability, Buick is No. 1, tops Lexus. And Lincoln & Mercury are in the top 5. Today, differences between Japanese and American, exist only in minds of persons influenced by media who tout Japanese cars. Most media is BIASED for them, and this costs our economy dearly. Yes, the Japanese get media to promote their vehicles FOR FREE, and at the same time knock American makes. Media shooting our economy in the foot! Ouch! But the Japanese say,“Don’t forget, we give America jobs. We build cars right here in the US and employ Americans to build them.” Wow, that’s smart! Getting us to assemble some vehicles and make people think “Gee, they’re built here in the USA. That makes them American.” HOGWASH! BALONEY! NONSENSE! Fact: MOST Japanese vehicles sold to us are built in Japan. They come here by boat. And most importantly, irrespective of where a vehicle is built, ask what country gets the profit from it. FACT: every year Japanese mother-corporations in Japan reap billions from vehicle sales in the US. Yes, almost 1/3 of their income comes from the US. And these billions benefit Japan, NOT America! We’re Japan’s cash cow! This, despite almost 50 million here with no health care, 37 million in poverty, 12 million kids hungry each day, 77,000 bridges close to collapse, highways crumbling, schools deteriorating, and unemployment 9% and climbing..Michigan almost 14%. Considering that we feed Japan? Can we sell cars there? Only a pittance! In ‘08, they bought a paltry 10,000....but they sold us 2 MILLION. Fair exchange? Fair dealing? They’ve even refused to buy our apples. Unlike us, they’re fiercely loyal to their own products. In effect, they close their market to us, but FEAST on America. Geez! At least the Germans, who sell cars here, let us build and sell in Germany. And the Chinese do too. So do the French, Spanish, Italians, British, and Latin Americans. We build and sell cars almost everywhere but in Japan. It’s estimated that from driving Japanese, that is, from our “JAPANESE-CAR-I-TIS,” we’ve already lost a million jobs. And if we keep burying our heads in the sand about this, and our own makers continue to lose market, estimates say up to 4 or 5 million more of us will lose jobs. And some predict with trickle-down it could be more like 6 million. In sum, the Japanese give us some 300,000 jobs to assemble and sell their vehicles in the US. And we, by continuing to drive so many Japanese cars and trucks could cost ourselves up to 6 million jobs. 300,000 for 6 million? No problem? Just turn our cheeks? Hurrah for Japan? NO! NO! We’re not quitters! We must fight back by supporting our own industry: FEED HANDS THAT FEED US! DRIVE AMERICAN! Support America, not Japan! “God bless America, land that I love. STAND beside her....” P.S. Please help. Use email link at top-upper-right (tricky to use) or copy and paste to send this to many people! |

iluvAmerica: I hate to break it to you, but Japanese cars are built better and last longer than cars built by the BIG 3, GM, Ford, Chrysler. It is not just media hype. And most car buyers know what I am posting is truth. They aren't stupid.
The BIG 3 car companies are in trouble because they have prices themselves out of the market. Labor costs are too high. That's the bottom line. |

davejar,
Respectfully suggest you Google: Toyota lemons, Honda lemons, and Nissan lemons. Become enlightened: they have PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS! You've forgotten you live in America. Your words insult, malign the fine, conscientious people who build American vehicles. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! If you're such a fan of Japan, keep in mind: JAPAN AIRLINES IS READY WHEN YOU ARE. They have some terrific one-way fares. |

American car buyers have voted with their pocketbooks...and the winners are, year after year: foreign car companies like Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc... It has absolutely nothing to do with whether I like foreign made cars...in the main, they are just better made, at a lower cost, to boot...the American car companies should have gone belly up years ago... Davejar,
You're just another Japanese car salesperson. You've got an axe to grind, your paycheck. |

You didn't add anything new to the discussion, so I'll stand by my previous posts. OH, I'm 100% American, not Japanese. But I do respect the Japanese and the Koreans, especially after spending 13 months in Korea while I was in the Army, stationed near the DMZ...beautiful people the Koreans... |

Do you respect this?:
The Japanese sell us 3 million cars a year and buy only 10,000 from us. They take back to Japan from America, around two billion dollars a year in profits. The S. Koreans sell us 800,000 cars a year but buy only 6,000 from us. Those two countries believe in free trade every where in the world, except when someone starts practicing it in their own countries. Square shooters they're not. But parasites they are. |

I will always buy American made cars. . .at least as long as there are American car companies.

I've never bought a foreign car; however, it looks like more and more Americans (especially the younger folks) ARE buying those foreign cars...and I completely understand WHY...better quality, better value...long term. To all the nice people on this fine La Crosse, WI site:
A pertinent post script: More on quality: In 2006, Toyota was under criminal investigation for hiding safety defects: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/07... |

Google quality control of foreign vs domestic cars, & story after story will confirm that foreign cars have a higher quality reputation...it's not even close some years... Isolated problems are not meaningful, since no company is perfect. |

A criminal investigation is an isolated problem?
Or try this in court: "Your Honor,(or Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury), remember no one is perfect." Come on now, Davejar!!!!! |

Good point iluvAmerica. Don't forget that someone is innocent until proven guilty...and whatever happened to that investigation, folks still are buying foreign made cars, especially Toyotas enmasse.. |
