"I don't think we're looking for something overnight in terms of development..." Yeah, kind of like our awesome airport and bustling downtown area.

Mayor Morris is on the right track. The city needs to develop this area instead of downtown. If San Bernardino is to re-invent itself, to revisit its former "All American City" days, to recover from its ghetto and barrio phase, this hotel is the catalyst. I'm surprised the Indian casino owners aren't interested in this hotel. Instead they build a glorified Motel 6.

Morris and Shorett should concentrate curing the significant ills of the city as it now exists, and not extending Berdo's blight into the Arrowhead Springs Valley.
We have a police force (at least the one that services the 1st Ward) that gives tacit approval to vandalism and property theft in its practice of never coming to the scene of the crime. And of course the local perpatrators are keenly aware of that and act with assurance that they will not be apprehended! There is the intersection of Baseline and Waterman that has a very serious and potentially dangerous drainage problem when it rains. Or the Mega Pot Holes on Perris Hill Road which is a very heavily traveled road due the student drop off at Pacific High, and again a serious and potentially dangerous situation.. The city says it is the county's problem and county says it is the other way around. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb. What the Mayor and his chum need to do is fix what they got. Might start with a citizen group to find out where all of the city's money goes, because it sure as hell isn't making in into the first ward. A group incidently that should not be filled with a bunch of their cronies and business associates! |

Where will they build 1,300 homes? What will happen if there is a fire in the mountains and the mountain communities need to evacuate- adding 1,300 homes right at the main exit point will result in catastrophe. Then add mud slides such as those that killed people at Camp Sophia, also build in a canyon/foothills next to the same creek- disaster.
Lastly....umm, last time I checked we were in a recession/depression, with many unsold homes, so who will buy these 1,300 homes? |

|
YEs. they should do it. San Bernardino did so well with the Airport with no commercial flights, the downtown revitalization that makes it a ghost town inhabited with gang members after dark, and Seccombe park, a haven for homeless and drug-dealers.
LET"S TAKE ON ANOTHER PROJECT! Maybe one will actually WORK. |

There are more questions, than answers, involved here. If the city annexes the area around the hotel, what happens to the hotel itself? Homes, and another hotel sound like a ridiculous idea. The shinning star, is the hotel, and the property that goes with it. Does it remain as is, owned by Campus Crusade, or will it be purchased as well? If it remains as is, what is the point of over-shadowing it with new construction? The hotel, and the surrounding area, should be left as pristine as it is, not cluttered with crap. I get so sick of developers that are just in it for the money, with no consideration for nature. More vacant houses are not what our foothills need, they are an eyesore!! This sounds like another Bird-doo catastrophe!

The Arrowhead Springs Motel is located in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, not in the mountains. It is located about two miles from the 40th Street business district. As far as the other things, life is full catastrophies. You cannot live life wondering what if. |

What we need is an "Upscale Over 55 Adult Active Retirement Community," like The Villages in Florida. Seniors are looking for somewhere to live where there are no noisy neighbors playing boom boom music all day and destroying the peace we all have a right to.

Why would the City government ( I say the City government, because they do not represent the people) want to buy another failure? This has debarcle written all over it, just like the $Millions that have been wasted at the airport. IMPROVE THE CITY FIRST. Get rid of the criminals, fix the roads, instead they want to bite off more than they can chew AGAIN. They did it with the movie theatre downtown, and they got burnt with our money. Now they want to buy a failed hotel in the hope of it suddenly taking off. Sounds like another lakes and streams project to me. If people were beating a path to the hotel, then I would understand it, but they are not. This will be a failure and you have to wonder which developer will profit from the City if they take it on. That would be the only reason that they would even think to do this, maybe Al Steward needs a new home in Newport Beach. After all the City of SB proposed the redevelment of the hub to Steward in closed session so he could buy up the land and sell it back to the City making a huge profit for himself. The City of SB even loaned him the money so that he could but the land for $2.1 Million and sell it back to SB for $15Million (Steward was the one who put up the Bill boards in Colton after bribing the City council there and the City of SB continues to to businss with him) Maybe they plan to do the same with this project, as it's already in the news Steward or some developer has already been given the nod and bought up what they need to to sell it back to the City, nothing like ripping off the tax payers again. City of SB bidness as usual.

It would be nice to go someplace that's not full of mexicans.

I believe the City has already received plans for this are. It has to be pre-zoned to be annexed. Take a moment and go look at them. The developer would have to make circulation, storm drainage and other improvements as well as build a fire station with a small police office/sub-station. It would provide the City with some upscale homes, how is that bad? And no it shouldn't be a senior community, stop with the exclusionary crap, besides this age group generates a lot of police and fire calls.
|
||||
|
That means the deveoper has already received the nod to buy up as much as they can, (probably with a loan from EDA, just like before) and re-sell the land back to the City, making a few Million on the backs of the tax payer. This is how you City government works for you. With a wink and a nod from Penman, this deal is already done.

I think most of the people who post comments to these articles just like to complain. The Arrowhead Springs Hotel, Spa, and Bungalows property encompasses more than 1,916 acres. And, the specific plan is very well-conceived with a fine-grained mix of uses.
The major structures on the property will be protected by vineyards that serve as fire barriers, and the new golf course doubles as flood control. Mayor Patrick Morris knows how important the new resort district in the Arrowhead Springs area will be to the city's re-branding and repositioning strategy and to the reviving of the tourism industry in the Inland Empire. While there are a whole host of high-end and upscale uses planned for the dozen or so parcels for sale, a garden-style day spa with a business model similar to that of Glen Ivy Hot Springs should be among the first phases to open. |

I would love to see the hotel bought for its historical value and redone. I dont think they should build a bunch of houses. That would just ruin the atmousfier. We dont need more unbought homes. Maybe glamourize it into a resort like setting. A nice restraunt. San Bernardino needs a nice place to bring in revenue. I'm all for rebuilding SB. But just because they build million dollar homes doesnt mean people will buy them.

The People of San Bernardino do not want or care about This arrow headache springs hotel. All we want is for the city's administration to get rid of all the gangs,drug pushers, taggers, and homeless people.

Some of us DO want this hotel to bring up the quality of life in our city. You are never going to get rid of ALL of the gangs, drugs and homeless. It is all over the country. Let me know if you find a place that has none of these thing to deal with. They can be fought but not rid of completely. |

Government spending created many jobs in the Great Depression, Hoover Dam for example. Some paint that as socialism, others as a wise public investment -- saw a cool site; Balkingpoints ; incredible satellite view of earth
|
||||
Agreed. And it could bring plenty of jobs to the area, which we really need at this point. |
