Full story: El Paso Times

Angered by a recent influx of Hispanic workers attracted by jobs at local meatpacking plants, voters in the eastern Nebraska city of Fremont will decide Monday whether to ban hiring or renting property to illegal immigrants.

I think we learned that lesson on the last DAY WITHOUT A MEXICAN protest.(Sarcasm)

Seriously, your post insinuates that we should continue having a illegal servant class under the shadows instead of stopping ILLEGAL immigration, thus allowing more legal immigration. For the 1,0000000000000000000000000000 0000000 time, it's not about BROWN, it's anout ILLEGAL. Keep on point.

As long as Americans are getting wealthy on the back of illegal immigrants, nothing will be done. It's time to raise the minimum wage to a livable wage and for States to adopt it also. Only then will there be no jobs for people that illegally cross our borders.

What an idiotic statement. Family mows the lawn or no allowance. Brothers and sisters take care of their brothers and sisters. Its the way it's always been. There is NO color skin associated with chores. Fremont is over run by people that carry no ID. Would you let soeone take care of your kid who carried no ID?

Yep...LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.....not people who slide under fences and climb over walls or stuff themselves like a sardine in a truck with no ventilation. And please....come up with a better argument than Indians and republicans, okay? It gets old.

Unfortunately, the gang thing will soon follow if we do not know who is coming into our communities. It does not matter what color the "unknowns" are. There are many issues involved and economics are involved, of course. But, as a Californian seeing innocent people getting stabbed and shot (Hispanic kids and Anglo kids and toddlers and others), these gangs from the drug cartels have to be kept out or your neighborhoods are doomed. We need a fair and equitable guest worker program for people who are anxious to pick crops (for instance) and we have not pressed these elected officials to give us one. Now we find ourselves with this quandary

1. The UAW and other unions have been forced to make concessions to blunt competition from places like Mexico, where auto workers earn just $4 an hour, lower wages for American workers.
2. When people are willing to work for less and take cash for payment, social security and taxes do not get paid.
3. When people send their money out of the country, the local economy, which supports them with infrastructure and education does not get the revenue.

Corporate America (the big greedy companies), like Microsoft, promote excessive immigration due to the fact that they will work for lower wages. I did not say illegal in the previous example, but excessive. IBM does the same thing. Local and small business can pay cash, therefore undermining social security and local taxes. Yes, Corporate America is responsible, as is anyone who hires an illegal to perform services for them.

16 months ago Missouri Governor Matt Blunt enacted a bill that his office called "some of the strongest legislation in the country to fight illegal immigration." It is strange to me--WHY--the open border crazies, local government, the ACLU, church zealots, some unions and radical ethnic organizations, didn't squeak-out about its enactment? My own guess is that the great state of Missouri is not overwhelmed by the illegal alien pestilence, as is Arizona? California--a refuge state for illegal aliens has been crippled by the illegal alien invasion. But because of the Sacramento Liberal assembly has continually allowed access foreign nationals, have infested the welfare offices and undermined the economy of the state. Fremont, Nebraska like so many other towns and cities are held to economic ransom, by being "Politically Correct" moron activists, who sincerely believe we should take the whole world into America. Perhaps we should become the HMO or PPO for anybody who can steal into a sovereign country. When the racial slurs don't cause ordinary American's from slipping away cringing, they send in the ACLU attorneys, well financed by our own taxes and the large business consortium's--who don't want their lose their cheap labor..

With all border states desperate pregnant females have illegal crossed the border, to take advantage of the misinterpreted 14th amendment. But Arizona has seen from this law loophole and are addressing it, as a massive costs to the financially hurting Americans of their state. Finally Scotus (the Supreme Court will have recognize the ramifications of this bitter issue? The Liberal activists 9th circuit court, may will try to throw it out, but Governor Brewer and Sen. Pierce will avail in the end. Instant citizenship is a free passport to permanently stay in this country, that's why this infant is called an "ANCHOR BABY".Every illegal pregnant women from China to Patagonia, know that if they can reach American soil before the baby is borne the 14th Amendment comes immediately into effect. We--MUST--Fight back against the Instant Citizenship "Anchor Baby" law which has been misinterpreted, from the 19th Century slave emancipation post Civil War law.

If the Court accepts the 14th Amendment as it is, then the child remains a citizen--but the Mother isn't (nor the Father) One parent--MUST--be a citizen?. If not--They must be deported. Yes! The child can stay--but the parents are still illegal and must return to their country of origin.

House Bill 1549 has terminated the state from issuing Missouri driver's licenses to illegal aliens and imposed criminal penalties to those who assist illegal immigrants in obtaining driver's licenses. Among its other provisions, the legislation also requires verification of legal employment status of every public employee. It allows for cancellation of state contracts for contractors if they hire illegal immigrants; and enacts provisions to punish bad acting employers who hire illegal labor, according to the press release.

I'm Hispanic too. I think Hispanics are not well served by rampant illegal immigration either. People make it racial, but it is not a racial thing. It would be the same thing were it Norwegians, Chinese or any other race. There are people illegally here from the Ukraine and places who commit crimes and take benefits that should be for citizens only. Mexico shares our border and there are tons of poor people (due to various factors) who can easily come here from there and Central American countries, but we cannot absorb all the world's poor. It would be good if they could all unite in their countries to stop the rampant corruption. Besides, there is a wait list and we need to fix the immigration process. But anybody who comes here should assimilate and learn English. My mama could not speak a word of it, but got busy and learned it. We need to keep our country united or we are all doomed.

If the federal government is incapable of doing it's primary job of national defense, then states and municipalities will have no choice but to make laws and enforce that protect themselves.

I'm Hispanic, and I see no racism in these laws. I don't want uneducated, unskilled and un-vaccinated and disease ridden illegals from anywhere invading my neighborhood and mooching off of our public services.
