As a 2005 alumnus of the school, I will say that it has surely tanked as a school. FHS has a good reputation for sports and theater, but it's insolence like this that gives it a bad name and it's embarrassing, but not surprising to know that this is what is happening, 3 years removed from there.

At a board meeting that I once read about in the local paper that Freeport and Baldwin residents get, it was once said that Freeport was overspending on books, etc, while at the same time, enrollment was declining. Well, enrollment is declining because if people can afford it, they'll pay lumpsums of money NOT to send their child(ren) to FHS, for a better learning environment where stuff like this isn't tolerated. My sister is one of those people, despite the fact that my brother and I are alumni of FHS.

At SUNY Old Westbury, where I attend school and work as a tour guide, every year we have the middle school students (Dodd) visit the campus to get an early sense of college awareness. A lot of them either 1) Couldn't speak English or 2) Asked about what happens when you cut class.

Even during my time there, it felt like we were a failing school district. Teachers fighting for contracts, the struggling literacy rate, having to lower graduation standards to make the graduation numbers look presentable. Not many of my former teachers have stayed. Can I blame them?

It's things like this which makes me embarrassed to live in a community like Freeport. Am I expecting it to be Jericho, East Williston or any of those school districts that emphasizes the success of their students? No. But something needs to be done about students who do nothing but cause trouble. Maybe we should follow our friends down the road in Oceanside and consider an alternative school. Or better yet, maybe boot camp.

It's called zero tolerance. Education is NOT a right....It is a tax-payer funded PRIVILEGE. If an adolescent does not or cannot respect that, then give him an application to the army or the local McDonald's and show them the door, with police escort, if necessary. Kick the miscreants out IMMEDIATELY, and stop giving them second and third chances, only to model their depraved behavior for students who WANT to learn. Secondly, force parents of these punks to attend parenting classes and publish their pictures alongside their children's in a Hall of Shame, similar to the one they currently have for drunk drivers. They are as disgraceful as their children! Watch how fast they reign in their inbred spawn and take responsibility.

"some students said...but school officials and police aren't aware of." sounds like same old, same old in the village of freeport. listen to the kids for once. they know. the schools and police just don't want to face facts.

Well yeah of course they do not speak English, they do not want to learn, not to mention Freeport used to be a beautiful town until the Illegal Aliens came in and just Sh-- all over the place. Can not contact the parents for the fact they are at the Home Depot hanging around drinking and waiting to work Illegally in my country.

It is a shame; this is just a microism of where the country is going. I blame the poeple of this country on that, we have the power to stop it but we are just too tired or just let the politicians handle it, and you see where that got us.

Can a school district be majority African-American and still be safe and successful? I used to believe so...Now I question it. Why does it have to be this way? Why don't proud African-Americans and their leaders turn their children's attitudes around and prove everyone wrong about this stereotype? I'm sorry to say, but just add me to the list of white flight sympathizers.

I think its bogus that the school said it was not racially motivated. They are just trying to make the situation seem less serious. My son was there and was punched in the face by a Spanish kid JUST because of his skin color. It was hell that day and he said everywhere he turned people were fighting and security did not even get the kids in trouble...

He also said 3 kids passed in his A2 class and only 7 are passing his English class. Hempstead is even better then Freeport.

they should have camera on the streets. freeport has potential to be the best school on long island, only if they get the garbage out of it first.
