Tobias, deceased 1979 Brownsville PA

I am looking for the family os a man that was listed on my birth certicicate as having the last name of TOBIAS, and was listed as being deceased in 1979 from Brownsville PA.
I was born in Jan 1980 and put up for adoption I recently found my birth mother, but was unable to help me with any of the info I am looking for. I hvae very limited information, but I would be extremely grateful if anyone can help me.

The Tobias name was around Brownsville years ago.
I believe a Steve Tobias operated a cab company called Steve's Taxi. He lived in Hiller 15417, but would have been born abt 1900, so he's not a possib;ity and I know of no sons.

California PA is close to Brownsville and I see a Tobias listed there. You need a first name too. However, this woman might be your father's wife or? daughter or ? and she may have no interest in helping you?

If you can contact her, steer clear of the birth subject. Try to discover if she knows of a male relative etc named Tobias who died in 1979. Think of a cover story.(Rich uncle?)

Where did he die? How old was he? You have to piece it together. Births are easy to find if you know the place, but deaths are harder to find. Your birth mother can tell you his approx. age and she surely knows his given name.

With that info you can search the census records for the Brownsville area.

I have a neighbor, early 30s, and her mother will not reveal her father's name. She was able to get a birth certificate from Cook Co. IL.(Chicago) but the father's name was blank. He was somewhat prosperous and owned more than one furniture store in Chicago. I think the mother was afraid he would take the out-of-wedlock child to the Middle East.

Where were your parents when you were conceived? Where were you born? This may help you narrow the search. Good Luck.

I grew up in Hiller Pa (15444). There were many Tobias's in Hiller. There was the family of Joe Tobias' and as Harry above mentioned there was a was Steve. Steve in no way was born in 1900 although in 1980 he was probably in his 50-60. Steve and Joe were brothers. Joe had several children starting with Jo Ann, Joe junior who was my age (born 1957), Dana and David who were twins, and the youngest daughter whom I cannot recall her name. One of the twins, either Dana or David I cannot remember, was killed in a car accident around 1979. More than likely you ae looking for Dana or David Tobias. Hope this helped.

I admit I am fuzzy on the Hiller Tobiases. Maybe the fellow that operated Steves Taxi was not named Tobias, but he was an older man by the 1940s. I left Hiller in July 1951 and my family left in Jan. 1954. But I do know there were Tobiases in Hiller and none of them were in my age group. b/1933

There was a website in Fayette Co. that was one of the best in the country for Geneology. I can't seem to locate it if it is still up and running. A fellow named ED was the coordinator. I traced all my own ancestors back to Europe. Male/female both sides thru as many as 10 generations back or until the line traced back to Europe.

Gil has given you a first class lead, but you need a first name. Then you can search the census records for Hiller. From that you will get other members of the family too and one of them may still be alive and living in the area.

Thank you! His first name was David, and he had died in a car accident. I know he was not married and did not have any other children. From the story I was given with my adoption records my birth mother and David Tobias had not told their parents about the pregnancy and were planning to get married when he was killed. My birth mother doesnt recall any of his family members names as she did not stay in contact and moved with her grandmother soon after he died. She was 17 at the time. Thank you for your help, and if anyone has any additional at all info I would greatly appreciate it!

I checked the genealogy website, the guy did email me the info, thank you so much! Sadly it appears eveyone I am trying to locate has already passed away. I was wondering of anyone knows the name of Joe Tobias' wife? I have found a few Joe Tobias headstone pictures on the site, and not sure of which is his.
The man who is my bio father, David Tobias, is hard to find info on.
