He's the one that started the discussion that lead to the ordinance prohibititng chain stores on Main. Wonder if he'll have that in any of his campaign ads. He's also the councilman that removed $10,000 from the Fair Association's request for Hotel Tax Money. He is an egomaniac that is concerned about the prestige he gets from being a councilman, not what's good for the people of Fredericksburg. He needs to be voted out of office like his buddy McQuithy was.

The whole CC the problem except for the Mayor!
Our mayor rules and in a good way. I am very proud that a local isn't mayor.I personally know many of the city council members. Rude and entitled is how they act. anot our mayor. He is someone to be proud of. |

Wonder if he'll start the Burnt Red report at high school. His son started the Burnt Orange report at UT. Now thats a real interesting read if you have never seen it.

David, Austin is perfect for you! All the shopping centers look the same, full of chain stores. We like Fredericksburg and its UNIQUE DOWNTOWN just fine the way it is. 290 runs both ways!
Downtown FBG is nothing more than chain stores without the chain store front. Only a fool would shop there thinking that the stores are anything different from any mall in a large city. |
Fredericksburg isn't any different than Comfort, Boerne, Bandera or any other town in the hill country. Our city council sucks. They all are rich or own their own chunk of main.Fredericksburg isn't unique it's just over priced. P.S. there are some really trashy parts of town. |

Tom Musselman is a great teacher and an even better man. Anyone who disagrees with that is rather silly.
Let me explain as briefly as I can the way Fredericksburg's economy works. Our economy is almost entirely made up of money spent by tourists who come to our quaint little town for its unique and adorable atmosphere. A large amount of their attraction to Fredericksburg is a direct result of our one-of-a-kind main street, which, whether you are observant enough to realize this or not, is full of stores that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Whether these stores interest you personally is irrelevant: they do not interest me. What is relevant is how much money they keep flowing in our town. If it wasn't for the uniqueness of our main street, we would not have fantastic restaurants in town or live music every weekend. We would not have flabbergasting festivals and an active community theatre program. We would be just like every other small town in America: boring. If we were to replace Root with Hollister, Hill Country Music with Guitar Center, or Wheeler's with another McDonald's, then we would look, feel, and exist just like everyone else. No one would ever come here anymore, and everything would, for lack of a more powerful word, suck. Therefore, keeping chain stores off of main street is a freaking brilliant idea, because I like living in a thriving town, not a ghost town. Tom Musselman understand economics, history, sociology, and just about everything else on a level that most people in this country could not even comprehend. As for you Betty, we are different. We are the #1 tourist destination in the entire country. People love it here, but half of them probably have never been to the other towns you have mentioned. And what parts of town are trashy, exactly? They do not compare with Kerrville, which is overrun by chain stores. They do not compare with inner cities. They do not count as trashy. Not at all. |

understands* economics. sorry.

Betty & Hoover if Fredericksburg is so bad why do you live here? Why do you visit here? Go ahead...strike out on you own, live life to its to the max. Share your wisdom with another town!
We do strike our own town by shopping in towns that have items we need and can afford. |
that's right. locals shop elsewhere for the luxuries they want that cannot be purchased locally and deal with it. If you don't like this system, move to the city.
What about the families who love this town and made it what it is but can't afford it anymore because of the newbies building Mc Mansions on every corner. How dare you tell them to move to the city and no they don't go to the city for luxuries. They go to the city to but afordable items. Main streer is not for the locals its for the tuistas who have no repsect for our town. Drive down Main St on a Saturday and you will see what I mean. As you being an 18 year old girl I am sorry but you don't know dick about the world. If you are at college somewhere else you really don't know. I love this town but I hate what it is turning into. I blame the people moving here who wan't to bitch about everything and yes thats what they do. Please move here and see how afordable the housing is.Drive around the nice little neighborhoods and check out the Mc Mansions people have built next to a nice rustic little home. our town is great. The locals are being told to move by people like you who haven't had to pay taxes or deal with the people moving here wanting to turn it into something it's not. For someone so educated you lack common sense and compassion for the little guy. And for you info I happen to like Mr. Mussleman. He does look out for the little guy despite what others say. |

I live here. I'm not in college . I am also not a girl.
I understand what you are saying, but if you want the town to continue to exist in any form or fashion, main street has to stay the way it is. Everything one actually needs can be purchased in town... it is only luxury products that must be purchased elsewhere. |
Your full of shit. Where can I buy my Matza and other jewish items. Everything on Main is jacked up in price. I can go to Texas Thrift and buy new clothing 75% cheaper than anywhere else. As a cancer patient with 2 kids I have to pinch pennies. Sorry that means going elsewhere. You are an obvious liar as earlier in a post you claimed you were a student at UT. Stop acting like you can relate to others when all you can do is lie. I bet you live with your parents and they pay the bills. You did say your only 18 or is that a lie to. I'm glad you are rich enough and stupid enough to shop on main but I would love to here what you consider a luxury. You don't know the meaning. |
I said I got admitted to UT honors, but have not accepted or denied that offer.
I am not rich. I am also sorry that you are a cancer patient. No one deserves that... |
I also do not shop on main... my point is that it is a necessity that it stays original in order for our town to thrive.

Riley is super, mature (compared to a lot of the people arguing on these posts, and has great points. And Musselman is fantastic. That's that.

Shame on you for bashing someone who is helping our Fredericksburg's economy by shopping locally. I agree with Riley it is completely neccesary for fredericksburg to remain as is, for the sake of the tourists. Fredericksburg is and will always be a tourist town, I feel very blessed to have been here as long as I have and will miss it when i go to college. But I would please like someone, maybe you Bethany, to explain to me how Fredericksburg would survive if it were to be changed into not such a tourist attraction. Explain what good that would do for our economy.
I do not mind the tourist. They can shop away all they want on Main. I also love Mr. Mussleman and Kelli. I know tourist are very important to our economy. Just so you know I spend close to 1,500 dollars a month on my meds and treatments. I have family that owns a dress shop on main. I still shop else where because I can't afford alot on Main st. I just wondered if you had cancer? You don't seem to understand how expensive it is to have and why I am forced to shop for cheaper items or items the Jewish can't find in this community. If you are Jewish please tell me where on main I can find my Matza and other items. And to tell you the truth some of my concerns with city council have nothing to due with Main st. |
