Latschar demoted by NPS

He should have lost his job when they discovered the porno -- NOT when it hit the media. That shows us how rotten the Park Service is.

I wonder if he'll keep his $145,000.

The "new special assistant"... looks like this is a job they just made up two days ago within commuting distance of his house in Gettysburg.

Was this job advertised in the government list of openings? Or is it a total waste of taxpayer money?

Thank you for all you have done to preserver the historic ground of Gettysburg for future generations Dr. Latschar. That will be your enduing legacy.

Didn't the DA office get rid of a guy for viewing these same type of photos some years ago. Maybe there is something in the water. Did they transfer that detective?

8AM on Friday, 10/23/09. No press release from the GNMP about the situation, no mention of it on the NPS daily news site. Not even a posting of the vacant position of
Supt. at GNMP.

Why all the secrecy at NPS/Dept. of the Interior??

I wonder how long he is allowed to live in his house which is owned by the Gettysburg Park Service. Seems like since he is no longer an employee he should be moving and relocating to a non-park service house.

You answered your own question. He'll continue with a gravy job at taxpayer expense. Our government has gone far beyond being a joke. It's a complete disgrace.

Our government has become a joke. Look around, as there are other Federal Government offices in and around Gettysburg just as corrupt. Those employees need to go, too, along with the no account contractors and their overpaid employees.

As for the "other local government" episode of "sexing" on work time and computers, one of those left but many also involved in that same fiasco are still there.

He and his wife own the house they live in, it isn't park property. He lived in the Rose Farm house years ago with his first wife.

Great comment. His wife is a ranger, though. Does her job qualify them to live there?

When will the NPS and media disclose the websites "visited" by Dr Latschar on the public dime and on public time?

Since this "work" was done on public time, we demand that the full nature of his infractions be made completely public. That means complete transparency. Publish those sites IMMEDIATELY.

Terry Latschar is not a ranger. She's not employed by the National Park. She's a guide.

They should be immediately evicted from the premises. The farther they are from Gettysburg, the better for everyone.

There is something more to this story and cover-up. Reporters, where are your investigative skills? Use them. This could be the story of a lifetime!

Let's see what would happen if some of your skeletons would come out of the closet? Would you all be so quick to demand the loss of a job or the eviction from a home? The man made a big mistake and is paying for it, both in the public eye and professionally. His career is ruined.

Well you can bet I wouldn't be transferred to some fat paycheck job somewhere with less responsibility and no penalty and the opportunity to collect my taxpayer funded pension!

For all his warts, John is certainly looking better in this than almost anyone else. He's manning up and communicating. The rest of the NPS/GMP machine has their fingers in their ears singing "la la la la" and hoping no one notices they need a new superintendant.
