I don't necessarily believe in ghosts, but I think its fun to read about claimed sightings. One report shows up on numerous websites, but its location is very vague (see in quotes below). Wondering if there's anyone that has heard this story and moreso, where this "hunting lodge" is. I believe in that part of WI there are quite a few places that could be described as "Hunting Lodge". Just for fun, wondering if anyone's heard the tale...
"Wascott - Hunting Lodge - Sounds of little girls voices can be heard when no one is there. Random Screaming in the middle of the night. Windows opening undetected by security system. Sightings of a young dark haired girl standing in the upper window." |

I thought I would share with you that it does sound very familiar to me. Last October around Halloween, I clicked on a website of each States "Haunted houses and places". I was mostly interested in Illinois (where I live) and Wisconsin. I will look for the list, I did print out the entire thing, I do remember that! It ended up printing 80 pages. By the way, I never believed in ghosts or spirits until five years ago. I was just diagnosed with Cancer and four weeks later my fiancee suddenly past away at work from a heart attack. From that point on little things would happen making me wonder if it was all a coincidence. For me at least, there is definetly a power/source of strength greater than myself. I guess that could possibly be the definition of Guardian Angels, who knows.
Anyway, didn't mean to go on and on about that. |

Where is the Lodge? I have a cabin there, near Red Lake....very curious |

You know, I am not quite sure. From what I've heard, and read, it is in Wascott, somewhere off Douglas County Road T. Its supposed to be on a very large land tract, and the land backs up to the St. Croix flowage. I do know it is a huge 20+ room lodge, used privately - not open to public or anything like that. I would love to know exactly where it is. If I hear more, I'll post. Where is Red Lake, by the way? Is it in Wascott/Minong/Gordon area? |

I have heard this story before though it was on a internet search not the locals talking about it. I am thinking the lodge is off of T out by the St. Croix River. The front of the property is off of T and the back of the property is off of the Copper Mine Dam road or one map calls it Buckley Swamp Road. There are two trout streams through that property and I have heard that there is a large lodge out in that area that has some good trout fishing but locals have been chased off there by gun point by the owners this was told to me by a friend not sure if he was BSing me about getting kicked off when he snuck in there fishing or not. Could be I know they are very private from what I have heard and that unless you heard about the place you would never know it was there. Not sure what to think about the haunted angle if the owners spread the rumor hopeing to keep folks away or if some one else did. I would think some one else did because if these folks want that much privacy I doubt they would start such a story.

The place you are talking about is the Buckley Mansion. It is north of T around Wascot. It is a log house and is really neat. Buckley creek flows into the St. Croix river and has a good number of brook trout.

I was born and raised in Minong and now live in Duluth MN. My family still lives in Minong. I have never heard of this nor have I ever heard any local lore regarding it. I am not questioning this stories validity. I am only pointing out that if this story is in fact valid, the local lore/interest surrounding it seems essentially non-existent.

I think my family used to stay there at least once a year. A business associate of my father's owned that lodge in the 80's to early 90's. He was from Fairmont, MN. There was a large open grass area, a kid's playhouse, and outhouse on the far end of the grass area. My parent's have a table from this place. You can take a canoe to Judge's hole, that is kind of creepy. Glad to hear somebody lives there and is taking care of the property/

I grew up in the area decades ago, and knew of the lodge and the many fanciful stories surrounding it. I'm not much interested in the "haunted" angle (sorry, but that kind of stuff gets attached to any old and "mysterious" place) but I am very interested in the actual historical background of the place, which is one of the oldest remaining structures in the south part of the county. If anyone has any factual information on the lodge--when built, original owners, early history, etc.--I would appreciate your input. E-mail me directly at Badger827@aol.com.
