state unemployment benefits extension

Let me see if I understand this right: I exhausted the first 26 weeks, then used up 20 weeks under the EUC tier 1 and I'm currently on tier 2 with 13 weeks. When all of that is gone (hopefully I'm working before then), I'll still have...20 weeks? It's starting to get confusing, keeping track. It's nice to be able to view my info on the state website. For my fellow unemployed neighbors, keep the faith - it will get better (I hope...GULP!).

What about the people that have been out of work for a long time is there any help for them?

We need to weed out the abusers doing cash jobs and drawing unemployment making more money than they were working. Not even looking for jobs.

Ya know it's pretty bad when you can't even get a job at a Temp service, unless you speak spanish. But I'm glad for the extentions.

Is an extra 7 weeks gonna do it folks? There are no jobs in site and massive people needing the few available! Let's see if it turns around for all of us whom need a job?!#!

You got that right, start boycotting the businesses that are hiring illegals. They are not even required to have a health screening and they are working in food industries.

Where does the money come from to pay all these people? I'm glad there is help but who pays for it?

This is wonderful news. Now I am wondering how this all fits in with the TRA/TAA program that I have been told that people who lost their jobs at my employer are eligible for?

"Spanish" is a language spoken in many countries - why do YOU assume that person was talking about race. I believe the subject was English. This is now America, the United States of America, and the first, main language is English. That's all. Language, not "race". Heck, I don't even know what I am "racially" speaking. But I do know I'm an American citizen and the main language here is American English. I do speak other languages a bit, enough to understand some basics. But the point was this is America. Melting pot - with one first language.

What does any of this race B.S. have to do with unemployment benefits being extended? There are countless people that have worked long and hard for years that are now counting on these benefits. That now includes me. Instead of looking forward to retirement in a few years I now have to start from scratch. And it all traces back to corporate greed. Plain and simple.

Now im really confused about all the extensions..
can someone explain this in detail?

I am so thankful that the unemployed have some help. I am unemployed.
To me the large employers in the area who are sending our job all over the world are the problem. We have been told how wonderful a global economy would be. Now we are experiencing how ugly a global recession is. Importing all the junk from other substandard counties for the cheapest price is importing third world poverty for our children. The large employers really don't care what happens to Michigan or the local communities. We need to get back to the Mom and Pop local economy in order to survive!

I have been unemployeed for approx. 2 months. I have a question for anyone who cares to answer without bashing me or others. I have not received full unemployment benefits because I still have my part time job (about 10 hours a week) so I dont know what full pay is. If I am correct I think its around $350-$375. Is it smart for someone to take a $10 an hour job (I have an interview next week for one) and take home $300 a week or better not to work and make the same or a little more? Does that qualify as "abusing the system" as some people might say? Or is it better off to counting to look for a job that would even pay $12-$13 still I can collect unemployment. Thanks

If you get a job offer for at least 70% of what you were making before you got laid-off, you have to take it.$10/hr is 70% of $14.29/hr. So if you made less than $14.29/hr at your last job you have to take a $10/hr job.

The max. unemployment benefit is $387/week, gross You only have to pay federal (after a $2400 deduction) and state income tax on this money, no FICA, medicare or city.

Sorry this topic is not about you, you,you. Furthermore you sound like you have an inferiority complex. Go back to Mexico and work for Electrolux. Mexico took all those jobs. No we are not bashing Mexicans but we should nit be passed over for a job because we can not speak spanish. If you come to America speak our language. I'll stop now before I really get going.
