here we go again. For the rich and famous. What about low-income housing! There aren't nearly enough of those on the island. Its always about money and making money hence these big money-hungry corporations. What about us peaons? Don't we deserve a decent place to live. LI is driving most of us away because of the high cost of housing and don't just mean houses...RENT TOO!

Has Hempstead run out of crime victims? They must have if there is a proposal to build high-end housing there. Only someone who wanted to be raped, robbed and killed would move there.

Hempstead already has enough low income/ no income people. The town needs to attract people who can pay with their own $$$$. Not government $$$

This property is in WEST Hempstead which has nothing to do with the Village of Hempstead.

Rapists, robbers and killers aren't limited to one group of people.

EVERYONE GETS WHAT THEY DESERVE -

If you don't have the $$$ you don't deserve it.

Damn I think I deserve to live in Monte Carlo on a big fcuking yacht. But their high prices are driving me away. Duh....go figure.....

Anyone else out there feel they DESERVE something more??

First the good news...courtesy hotel to be replaced by hign end development.
Now the bad news...the capri hotel will be expanding to accommodate the low lifes being displaced from the courtesy hotel.
In other local news...county taxes will rise sharply to pay for cost of closing the courtesy hotel and developing site. Capri hotel will run a makeshift school for adults, a homeless shelter, a drug detox center, and a halfway house for parolees. Of course, tax dollars will be needed for this wonderful project.
On tonight's news...a special government report on how having a shelter, a drug detox center, a makeshift adult school, and a halfway house might not be safe and be bad for your neighborhood.

Is this the hotel that stands south of the old flea market Hempstead Ave & Woodfield? Or is it somewhere else?

I hate to break the news to you but most of that area is already low income housing. Welfare & Social service recipients are not what this town needs more of. I say put in the High end housing and maybe turn this town around, not that most people are going to want to live in a crime infested area. But hey you have to start somewhere. I drive through all parts of hempstead quite ofetn and let me tell you some areas look worse than Beruit!!

Good. Please leave. Today's low income housing = tomorrow's slum. If you can't afford L.I. then there is a nice trailer park somewhere in Florida that would love to have you.
YOU ARE JUST SO JUDGEMENTAL. WHEN I READ YOUR COMMENT I WANTED TO SCREAM. I WORK FULL TIME AND HAVE A GOOD JOB, BUT STILL FIND IT VERY HARD TO LIVE ON LONG ISLAND. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER, HER FATHER LEFT ME THE DAY I TOLD HIM I WAS PRENGANT AFTER 9 YEARS TOGETHER, AND FOR ME TO SUPPORT MYSELF AND A 2 1/2 YEAR OLD IS VERY DIFFICULT. FOR YOU TO MAKE A COMMENT LIKE THAT IS JUST RIDICULOUS WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW THE PERSON. THE COST OF LIVING ON LONG ISLAND IS JUST OUTRAGEOUS AND THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DO WORK VERY HARD JUST TO MAKE ENDS MEET.

THe only problem with this--and Newsday get your geography straight as this is West Hempstead--is that projects purport to be one thing and if it does not work, it becomes something else. The subarban Long Island is now being overrun with multiple dwellings and there is a serious dearth in the one-family home ownership. Multiple dwellings pile more people in limited spaace, which in turn have a negative environmental impact. I would much rather see a park or greenery.

I WORK IN HEMPSTEAD, I LIVE IN HICKSVILLE, BUT COMING TO WORK FRIGHTENS ME SOMETIMES. I HAVE SEEN EVERYTHING FROM MURDER VICTIMS TO PROSTITUTES PICKING UP JOHNS DURING THE DAY, TO ARMED ROBBERS RUNNING THROUGH OUR PARKING LOT AND HAVING COPS WITH GUNS DRAWN IN ORDER TO STOP HIM. HEMPSTEAD IS REALLY A SCARY PLACE, BUT THERE ARE SOME NICE AREAS IN HEMPSTEAD TOO. I AGREE THAT THEY SHOULD ATTEMPT TO CLEAN UP THIS TOWN ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE TO COME TO WORK HERE EVERYDAY, BUT YOU ARE RIGHT IN SAYING THAT NO ONE WOULD WANT TO LIVE WHERE THERE IS A LOT OF CRIME AND A LOT OF GANG RELATED INCIDENTS. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THERE WAS A RAPE IN THE GARAGE I HAVE TO PARK IN EVERYDAY AND IT HAPPENED DURING THE DAY WHEN WE ARE PARKED IN THAT GARAGE. THAT CURTESY MOTEL IS THE WORST FOR CRIME TOO. I AM GLAD THE ARE GETTING RID OF THAT. NOW IF THEY CAN JUST CLEAN UP THIS NEIGHBORHOOD MAYBE I CAN BRING MY DAUGHTER TO WORK WITH ME MORE OFTEN.

Is it Low income or no income housing they want to put there? They should just leave the hotel. This way they know where most of the crack heads, dealers, prostitutes, pimps, etc. They could build a Home Depot, a Wal Mart so the residents don't have to travel to far to boost. Maybe some of them could even get a job there someday.

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Libra

Happy New Year, Libra!. How's that poor old body feeling this morning?! If you're having a gathering, include casual acquaintances or newcomers as if they were one of the family. You're a real social animal and you know how to put people at their ease. This is a wonderful talent: not only do you have a network of friends and social contacts, as well as business ones, but you have the ability to bring others together. Perhaps you should start a dating agency this year!
