The Village has officially announced that there will be layoffs of 7 police officers, 6 fire fighters, and 5 public works employees. This will be a reduction of approximately 15% of each of those village departments. Franklin Park Police and Fire are among the lowest paid in the county and region when compared to similar villages. The effect it will have upon the residents will be priceless as homeowners/renters insurance is going to go higher, response times by Public Safety Personnel will increase, and satisfaction by community people will decrease.

And before anybody says it's deserved or whatever bs they want to say...

The unions have agreed to work on these issues with the village, but the Village wants complete concessions by the Public Safety Employees.

A union contract for the police department will be one of my first priorities. I believe I heard this uttered by Pederson at one of the debates.

And then they found out the money was misallocated. The money was a bigger issue than greedy unions always wanting more.

Hugh Jass, I feel it is time for you to leave Franklin Park!
You have not and will not ever bring anything to this village that someone wants to hear.
Take your bad attitude and leave!

Maybe if you looked at the big picture instead of the "ME" first attitude. People aren't getting raises or promotions. When there is no money in the budget, the unions shouldn't be demanding raises when everyone in the U.S. are taking paycuts. That's a fact!!!DEAL WITH IT!!!

Both sides of your mouth again.
That is why people are upset about $300.00 for garbage pick up, car sticker increase, etc. WE have no money to keep dishing out, and YOU just named the reasons.

Hugh Jass, the fire department agreed to take a 0% raise and showed other cost saving measures and were backstabbed. Get your facts straight.

Hugh Jass, the Police are working without a contract for over 2 years, have produced other cost cutting things, will be shorthanded a number of personnel which is a safety concern for both working public safety and the citizens of Franklin Park. Higher crime=higher insurance.

Where is the police chief in all this? Why is he not taking care of his police department? Why is he letting this happen?

Goes to show, another person placed into a position that he is not quilified to handle.(Political favor)

Because he is greedy, he should have retired already. They could get rid of the dc positions and save money there, and they could give up the vehicles as well. But no one is making a move to try help others. This is what our police department has turned into.

You are so right about the me first attitude. So who is first. The mayor is top of the list. He is making $100,000.00 a year and is concerned about the village. After he gets his pay. THen his professional $200,000.00 a year caccounting firm. They are going to find all the answers because they are friends of barrett and they will get their money first. Our dedicated trustees. At a time when we are short of funds these dedicated public officals will continue to do their best to protect your interest. after they get their $15,000.00 a year pay. All those department heads making $90,000.00 plus a year. Can't cut back that pay, how would these people live. How dare those cops want to settle a contract that is expired more than two years. More me first. And so what if public safty suffers. After all, he is going to hire more part time cops to enforce those parking laws. That is what our police department is for, to generate more revenue for the vilage. And I bet you thought it was to protect you! That is another me first attitude. So the public better just get over that me first atitude. We all have to make sacrifaces to ensure barrett and his crew continue on with life as they know it. ANd those who dare to complain about their mistakes and incompentence, get over that me first attitude. Besides, you elected him.

dear jack (off) why doesnt the whole fire department go psi you ask? well for starters they cant because franklin park is not home rule. Secondly do you want a fire department consisting solely of individuals with no loyalty to the community because they are testing to get on full time in a real fire department that pays a livable wage. These psi individuals make a little over 30K a year. Is that worth risking your life over? No, you get what you pay for. Most use it as a mere stepping stone. The other side is that these psi individuals have no physical ability test, no written examination, no background checks, etc. Is that who you want trusting your loved ones life with? Do you think that a 5'2" 300lb psi employee can save you or would you feel safer with a 6'0 200lb person that has to pass numerous physical and ability tests every year? A "for profit" organization such as psi does not care who is in the franklin park firehouse, just as long as there is a person and that they are making a profit.

Not many firemen in F.P. live here so whats the connection to loyalty to the community? So your saying that the more money they make they are more apt to run into a burning bldg? The pieces to your argument are sort of crumbling. And theres some fattys on our dept.too.Where is this going??I'm sorry but your arguements are running quite thin. Not to be rude... but..."give us a break".

Whether the firemen live in our town or not do you not think that there is a different attitude of someone who plans on being in one position for 30 years vs someone who is there until something better comes along? Why doesnt your boss replace you with a temp for that argument? Its cheaper right? Same productivity according to you right?Oh, and look at the patch on uniform of those fatty's, they are your psi paramedics.

1st off full time firemen dont get tested for fitness every year 2nd there is aloooot of fat fm too so dont even try that. 3rd there wouldnt be such a turn around if psi got the respect they deserve. and what makes u save a live cause u make too much money or all the days off u dont need. if there was no ems and psi fm wont have jobs where do u think fd funding comes from all the call ems does. fp play with there call volume to make it seem like the firemen r doing something 99.9 % of the calls r ems related not fires. it should be franklin park ems department. paramedics do deserve more money thats for sure
